Remember Her Life
The lab was quiet, the only sounds being the various whurrs and buzzes of the Redstone machines Olivia had created over the years after they defeated the Witherstorm. The engineer sat at her desk, a new set of blueprints in front of her, the makings of a new machine in front of her as she scetched down the plans. Her hand slips, creating a long, crooked white lined going down the page. Her eyes narrowed before she crumpled the paper into a ball, whipping it across the room. She felt the age old feeling of giving up well up in her chest, and she almost turned around, expecting her best friend to be standing there with a small, reassuring smile, telling her that it would work out in the end. But when she turned, Jessie wasn't leaning on the doorframe, there was no smile, or reassurance that she could finish her newest project.
Olivia felt tears dripping down from her eyes, visiously wiping them away as more began to fall. She gave in, letting the tears she had been holding in for days stream down her cheeks, sobbing into her hands as she covered her face. Her mind drifted to the one other time she was like this, just before Jessie had left for her last battle.
.....
"Hey Olivia!" A cheery-voiced Jessie called into the lab, smiling brightly as she almost skipped inside. Olivia didn't even bother to look up, her eye still red from crying and her blueprints stained with her tears. They were ruined. Jessie's happy march stopped dead in that moment, her cheerful grin replaced by a tiny smile, walking over to wrap her arms around her best friend. "Olivia, come on. Don't cry." She whispered comfortingly, resting her head on Olivia's shoulder, "You'll get it." "No!" She sobbed, "No I won't! I'm not good enough! Ellegaud was right all those years ago." Jessie sighed, shaking her head. "No, no she wasn't. I want you to look around, at all the things you've invented." Jessie started, making Olivia open her eyes, sniffling as she let her eyes travel over the various things in the lab. "What about them?" She questioned, moving one hand up to wipe at her eyes softly, making a hopeless effort to stop her tears. "Look at how many times you succeeded in finishing your plans. Remember how much sweat and tears went into the potion - maker?" Jessie laughed lightly at the last part, "I don't think you've ever yelled louder at an inanimate object before." Olivia let a light laugh escape her lips, smiling softly, her tears slowly coming to a stop.
"Or, what about the firework gun?" Jessie could barely hold in her laughter, "I think that one went off in your face about five times." Olivia cracked up, laughing at the memory. "Yeah, I remember those." She chuckled, finally smiling normally again. Jessie finally let go, moving to lean on the desk with one hand in front of Olivia. "See? If you can get those to work you can figure this out too." She smiled brightly. Olivia smiled back before shaking her head. "Thanks Jessie." She bit her lip, "Before all this, you looked excited. What's going on?" She asked, tilting her head to the side slightly, making Jessie's eyes brighten again. "Oh yeah! You'll never believe this new mission Lukas got for us today!"
.....
Olivia clenched her hand into a fist around the hem of her shirt. That day, it all began that day. If only she had gone with the others, maybe, just maybe, Jessie would've been here to fill the room with laughter and brighten the room with her smile. More tears ran down her cheeks, having no intent of stopping as she sobbed into her hands again. Though as she cried, she could've sworn she felt someone's arms wrap around her, though she knew that couldn't be true, as she was in the room alone.
....
Axel punched angrily at a tree trunk, using his bare fists like he used to back before the storm. It hurt like hell, but he found himself not caring anymore. Each block took all of two punches to destroy, his eyes narrowed as he let out his anger on the poor trees of the forest. Once the current tree he was working on was completely destroyed, he stomped over to the next one, pulling his fist back to punch it, only to lightly hit it, eyes shutting tightly as a few tears slipped from his eyes. "Why?" Was all he could say, his depressed frown turning into an enraged one. "Why!?" He shouted, punching the tree so hard it splintered away on the first hit. He slumped down to his knees, shaking his head. "I shouldn't have let her come." He sobbed out, pounding his fists into the dirt.
....
Jessie, Lukas, and Petra were waiting for him at the gate to the town, talking excitedly about the mission to come. Axel rushed forward, grinning. "You guys ready for a challenge?" He asked, wiggling his unibrow slightly as they laughed. "Heck yeah! I can't wait to kick some butt and take names!" Jessie said, pounding her fist into her hand to seem tough, but it ultimately failed as she just didn't look it to the group. Petra laughed, "Yeah. Kick butt and take names." Lukas was chuckling, his arms crossed over his chest, "So this place isn't too far away from here, a bit of a walk and then we'll be there." He informed them. Jessie frowned slightly and Petra knew why. "Jessie, maybe it isn't such a good idea you come. Your leg still isn't fully healed from that creeper almost blowing it off." She pointed out sternly, making Axel narrow his eyes. "Aw man. I didn't even think of that. Maybe you should stay behind, we can handle it." He tried to convince her, but Jessie gave him a small glare. "I've had worse Axel. Trust me I'll be fine." She said with a smile. Petra bit her lip in thought, still wanting to send Jessie back until she got a pout from Jessie. "Fine." She sighed, "But if you complain about your leg later don't blame me." Jessie cheered excitedly, hugging Petra tightly before looking to Axel, eye wide like a puppy. "Axel?" She questioned. Lukas was trying to hold in his laughter at how wide Axel's eyes were. "Let's go." He said with a smile, making Jessie jump up and down excitedly. "Yes! Let's go on an adventure!" She said, imitating Ivor's voice. They all laughed as they began the walk through the woods, Jessie making all of them laugh and smile for what would be the last time.
....
Axel let his tears rush down his cheeks, gritting his teeth as he removed his fists from the ground. They were bleeding from hitting the trees so hard, making him wince in pain. As he fell back into the dust, leaning against a tree, he pet the tears he had been holding in for days flow free, sitting in silence as his knuckles ozzed slightly with blood. As he sat there he felt as if someone was holding his hand in a concerned way, kneeling in front of him trying to make him laugh. He looked up, expecting to see her, but no one was there. The feeling of someone holding his hand left soon after he looked up.
....
Lukas sat at his desk in the library, etching down in his diary the account of the last adventure they had. After all he hadn't been able to write it down when it had happened like all the others. Even now, almost weeks later, it was still incredibly difficult to write. After all, it was the retelling of Jessie's death. He felt a tear go down his cheek, quickly wiping it away before placing the quill down on the table. He took a deep breath, knowing he wanted to cry but he just simply couldn't. He had cried so much in the past while he wondered if it was possible for him to ever cry again. Then again here he was, tears starting to drip from his eyes. He wiped them away again, sitting up straight and continuing to write down the account of the battle.
....
They all reached the next town over rather quickly, Jessie never complaining about her leg the entire time. It made Lukas wonder if she was holding back the complaints or if it actually wasn't painful anymore. He wasn't sure which it was but when they got to the gate of the town, they stopped dead in their tracks, the joking tone of the adventure gone at the sight. The doors were wide open, most of the surface now having large holes in them. So even if they were closed it wouldn't have kept much out. Lukas crept froward, everyone following close behind with Jessie right beside him. They shared an anxious look as they stepped past the gates. Lukas looked to his right, his heart stopping at the sight of most of the town. A lot of the buildings that could be seen from where they were standing were either collapsed in on themselves or currently burning down. Jessie's shoulders tensed up as she looked around, then they relaxed. At the time Lukas was confused as to why this happened. "We need to check around for survivors," Petra mumbled, looking sick to her stomach as she added, "and keep your eyes peeled for whatever did this. I have a feeling whoever or whatever it was is still around." Axel nodded before walking up to one of the collapsed buildings, seeing the destruction inside, blood trailing away into the rubble. He winced, knowing that whatever happened here couldn't have been good. Lukas walked to a burning house, throwing a bucket of water to the source of the fire to put it out. Jessie and Petra moved together towards the center of town with Axel and Lukas following close behind, having no luck in finding any survivors.
"What could've done this?" Lukas asked as they reached the center of town, the sickening sound of buildings about to fall all around them. "I don't know, but whatever it was isn't dead." Jessie stated, like she knew it as a fact. Axel looked confused as he questioned her with, "How do you know that?" Jessie just shrugged, looking to Petra who had come to the same conclusion Jessie had. "If it could cause this much destruction, and leave no survivors that we could find, it has to still be around here somewhere." She finished, making Jessie nod. "So keep your eye open, its too dangerous here to get distracted." Jessie mumbled, voice becoming hushed. Lukas nodded, walking closer to the buildings on fire not too far from the center. Jessie and Petra were talking quietly near the center of the square as Lukas moved forward. Just as he pulled out the bucket if water, sighing at the large building that would soon be burnt to a crisp. "Lukas! Move out of the way!" Jessie shouted, running up to Lukas to tumble him out of the way as a mega zombie jumped down from somewhere unknown to him, the ground where he had just been standing now cracked and smashed into hundreds of prices. Jessie lay on her back beside him, breathing heavily as she stared up at the oversized monster in front of her. "I guess we figured out what did all this." Jessie mumbled.
....
Lukas set down his quill again, covering his eyes at the memory of it all. One of the last things Jessie ever did was save his life, and now he would never be able to repay her for that. Tears leaked down his cheeks slowly as he took in a shaking breath. "Why wasn't it me?" He sobbed out, feeling arms wrap around him in a hug. He went to wrap his arms around the person, wanting hug the owner of the arms that felt so much like the friend he had lost, but when he reached his arms up, no one was there and the feeling was gone again. He was alone, and he continued to cry.
....
Petra sat in Jessie's room, unlike the others she wasn't avoiding the place Jessie spent most of her time when the weren't on adventures. The bed was soft, she stared down at it, wondering if Jessie would cuddle up to it at night when she got cold before wandering over to Petra's own bed across the hall to sleep with her. She wondered if things ever got so bad that Jessie just laid here and cried into the pillow, or hid under the cotton covers and wished to dissappear before anything else could happen. She sat wondering if Jessie just sat here, like she was now, trapped in her own thoughts that just wouldn't stop distracting her. After avoiding it for so long, she thought back to that day, remembering every horrifying moment.
....
Jessie pushed herself off the ground, shaking her head to shake out the shock of the moment. Petra rushed over to her side, helping her to her feet. "You okay?" She questioned, looking beyond worried for Jessie as she smiled lightly. Axel hurried to Lukas, helping him to his feet. "We're fine." Jessie smiled before frowning, looking over at the monster that was glaring down at them through bright red eyes. Petra gulped, "That's a big zombie." She mumbled, making Jessie nod. "You got that right." She whispered back, stiff as a board. Everyone stayed perfectly still, not wanting to disturb the monster in front of them. "We need to get it away from the town before it can do any more damage." Axel mumbled, sharing a fearful look with Lukas.
Jessie nodded silently, being the only one keeping both eyes on the monster while the others talked. "I agree, but if we take out any weapons now I don't think we will live to see tomorrow." Jessie mumbled out, staying quiet as the monster towering over them slowly swiveled it's head so it's fiery eyes could gaze over at each of them. "So no weapons yet, got it. So what do we do?" Lukas questioned quietly, fists clenched nervously as the monster's eyes turned towards him. Axel's eyes widened, making Petra think he should have a light bulb pop up over his head as his eyes widened. "We should run." He started, making the others start to protest before he continued with, "Then once we are a good distance away, we set up the portable TNT launcher Olivia gave me on the building over there, then you guys could get your weapons while it's stunned and take it out." The others looked surprised, as the idea their friend just had was just crazy and dangerous enough to work. Of course, none of them could've imagined the price to pay for going through with this plan. "Alright." Jessie stated simply, "Let's do it."
Together they carefully rushed in different directions, already sending the monster into a confused rage as it let out an angered roar, making Petra's heart leap in terror. She skid to a halt behind the monster with Jessie, while Lukas expertly dodged all attacks the monster could send his way, each fist smashing the stone to bits instead of Lukas to everyone's relief. Jessie waited patiently, one hand over her shoulder, holding onto the handle of her enchanted diamond with shaking hands as she waited for Axel to finish setting up the main part of their plan. Petra looked over at her, lucky enough to catch her eyes for just a few heartbeats. For the first time in a while, Petra saw just how scared Jessie got during battle, and it made her heart drop. If you had ever heard how the townspeople talked about Jessie, you would think she was the strongest, bravest, most amazing person in the world; to Petra these things would always be true. But seeing her like this made her stomach flip, just how afraid Jessie still got in battle reminded her of the girl she had to save from spiders on the day of Endercon a little over a year ago. Jessie deep down was still that girl, no matter how many battles or how much skill she had, she was still Jessie. Petra felt her mouth dry up just as she wanted to say something, unable to find the words she wanted to say even when Jessie turned her head to look at her.
They shared a long stare, one that could be considered too long until it was interrupted by a large explosion sending the Mega Zombie towering over them stumbling backwards towards the two girls and away from Lukas. With the go ahead from a battle cry Axel gave out, Jessie and Petra unsheathed their swords, both narrowing their eyes and putting their fears aside before leaping into action. They jumped onto the monster, stabbing their swords into it's legs and hanging on as it tried to shake them off. Another roar split the air, this one seeming to make the very ground shake. Lukas kept it distracted, shooting tipped arrows at the monster lined with healing potions; which would have the opposite effect on the monster as it was created for originally. Another roar sent Lukas stumbling to the ground, bow flying far from arms reach as he slammed his chin off the ground, letting out a yelp of pain before Axel used a fishing rod to pull him up onto the rooftop with him, keeping out of harms way as much as he could, firing another block of TNT to explode into the monster's face, causing it's jaw to be blown off. Axel gaped at the jaw-less monster while Lukas was trying his best not to gag at the sight. Jessie ducked her head, shielding herself from the explosion of blood and bone as Petra did the same, both sharing a look before looking up again, pulling the second sword from their backs to begin climbing up the monster's back towards it's head. They didn't get too far before it began trying to shake them off by sending waves of blocks at buildings to knock them down, making it hard to keep their hold on the sword handles. "Petra!" Jessie cried out when Petra's hand slipped, hastily garbing hold of the handle again to keep herself steady as the monster sent out more shock waves into the earth, slowly rotating around the square, stopping between waves to shake violently in anger. Through this, both girl's tightened their grips in fear of being thrown off, continuing their climb to the monster's shoulders. Jessie stabbed her sword in hard between the monster's shoulder blades, making it screech in pain before finally managing to fling both girl off, Jessie flying up over the monster's head to land with a sickening crunch in front of it, letting out a cry of pain. Petra was thrown back into the fountain in the middle of the square, landing in the water and cancelling out any damage she might've taken if she had landed like Jessie had. By the time Petra had gotten to her feet and located Jessie holding onto her oddly bent leg on the other side of the square, it was too late. The monster lifted it's arms into the air, Petra rushing forward without a second thought. She watched as time seemed to slow, only for a few heartbeats, but she could see everything unfolding in front of her. Axel and Lukas were rushing to load the TNT launcher, Jessie was slowly looking up, the painful expression turning to fear, then to an almost calm one. Tears rushed down Jessie's cheeks as the arms of the monster slowly came down towards her, turning her head to see Petra running towards her. A small, sad but small, smile appeared on Jessie's lips, Petra found her legs stopped working as she stopped running, her jaw dropping at what was happening. As if Jessie had been right in front of her and not many blocks away, she heard her whisper one last thing as time sped up, feeling her heart break into a million pieces as the Monster's fists slammed into the ground in front of Jessie, sending her flying back into a shock wave of stone and dirt and any other blocks it picked up along the way.
The whisper still bounced around in Petra's head as she fell to her knees, tears streaking down her cheeks, "I'm sorry."
....
She wanted to feel Jessie's comforting hands rest on her shoulders, she wanted to hear her laugh fill half the fortress because of how loud she was being, see her smile, have her jump into her arms when they watched the horror plays the town put on. She wanted to be able to kiss her one last time, to hug her, or for Notch sake to just see her one last time. More tears rushed down the redhead's face, finally making her open her open her eyes and look at herself in the mirror. She looked terrible, but that wasn't what she would call it, or what Jessie would've called it. Petra was broken, and she could see it in her own eyes. Jessie's death hadn't just killed her alone, but part of Petra seemed to die with her that day. The red head laughed bitterly at how she looked, glaring at her reflection from across the room. "I wonder what Jessie would think of me now?" She pondered, voice flat, "Not exactly the brave, tough girl you're used to huh?" She laughed again, this time it was cut short with a sob, making more tears flow down from her eyes. She covered her eyes again, almost as if she wanted to stop the tears from flowing.
Never again in her lifetime would she be able to unsee what happened next, never would she ever be able to mention it to any of her friends, it was just to confusing to explain to anyone. A bright light shone through the spaces in her fingers, making her move her hands away from her eyes, wincing at the window where it shone into the room. It was the middle of the night, so a light this bright shining through the curtains didn't make much sense. She shook her head, finding herself not caring and staring down at the floor, letting the rest of the tears that wanted to fall drip down her cheeks. It was silent, but she saw two brownish-gold boots step in front of her, glowing ever so softly as the white light dimmed. Petra looked down at them in confusion, feeling two hands settle on her shoulders, the gesture making her head snap up, seeing the familiar bright green eyes she had grown to miss so much; though they now seemed to glow slightly.
Jessie smiled down at the redhead, shaking her head before saying quietly, "I still think you're brave." Petra felt her jaw drop at the sight of the girl in front of her, feeling tears drip down her cheeks. "Y-You're here..." Petra choked out, making Jessie look surprised before she nodded. "Yeah, you're the only person that can see me it seems." Jessie let out a sad chuckle with her reply, rubbing her arm a little nervously, "I don't even know why I'm still here." Petra slowly stood up, having to look down to meet Jessie's eyes because of their slight height difference. "What matters is somehow you're here..." Petra mumbled, wrapping her arms around Jessie tightly, burying her face in Jessie's shoulder. She hugged back, smiling softly as Petra let more tears run down her cheeks, which went through Jessie as if she wasn't even there. But Petra could feel her, she had to be here, she just had to. Jessie pulled away much to Petra's dismay. She was still smiling before she let out a sigh, "I've caused so much grief, you guys have been holed up here for weeks now." She started, Petra trying to interrupt but Jessie shaking her head, "And I get it, we were all really close." Then Jessie's eyes narrowed, looking right at Petra with such a serious manner that it sent a chill up her spine. "But that doesn't mean you all get to sit around here and blame yourselves for something that wasn't in your control." She pointed out sternly, making Petra shake her head. "But we could've done something, stopped you from going. Made a better plan. Anything other than what we did." She attempted to reason with her, getting a simple head shake in response. "You don't understand Petra, and I don't think you'll be able to for a long time, but no one could've saved me, and no one will. Choices were made, maybe not ones in my favor, but it's how it happened." Jessie said, using a comforting voice as she wiped the tears from Petra's cheeks with her thumbs, "It's something that happened, and it's sad sure, but you can't do anything about it. You just have to get back up, take that grief inside, and find a way through the darkness. After all, you guys are the Order of the Stone for crying out loud. With or without me, you all need to keep going. This world and many others still need your help. They need you."
Petra sighed, looking down at the ground, "But I need you Jessie, I can't do this without you." She whimpered the words quietly, making Jessie smile again, shaking her head, lifting Petra's head up so it wasn't ducked down. "But you can Petra. Hold your head up high, don't keep it low. Keep fighting for all the people left in this world that need to be protected. You may not see it, but you are the only person that can lead the others out of this dark hole you've all seemed to fall in." She leaned forward, lightly kissing Petra's cheek, "Lead them out of the darkness, show them that you all need to keep fighting." Petra nodded, tears streaking down her cheeks as Jessie pulled away from her for the second time. "I have to go." Jessie said sadly, "I'll be watching over you." Petra stood up, watching Jessie start walking towards the window. "Wait!" Petra called, making Jessie turn to tilt her head to the side in confusion. "I'll see you again someday, won't I?" Petra questioned, feeling more tears well up in her eyes as Jessie walked back over to her, a small yet sad smile on her lips. "One day we will see each other again," She paused, leaning in to kiss Petra's lips softly before pulling away and finishing with, "I just hope that day is a long time from now." More tears threatened to flood Petra's eyes, but she stopped herself from crying as Jessie turned away, about to step back into the blinding light that had brought her here in the first place to say, "Goodbye for now, Petra."She was gone, and Petra knew it, but as Jessie left the room, she didn't let the redhead see as a tear ran down her cheek.
....
Jessie stood with Magnus, they were standing in the clouds as Jessie stared down at the world she would never get to see again. "So kid, is that it? Can we finally leave?" Magnus asked, sounding just as gruff as he was when he was alive. Jessie shook her head, smirking slightly, "Sorry Magnus, but there's one last person I need to go visit." Magnus groaned, hanging his head as Jessie gave him a glare. "You know, no one is ever this stubborn about leaving. Not even me." He crawled on as Jessie opened another doorway, rolling her eyes. "I promise you, just one last one before I go." She stated simply, making Magnus roll his eyes, letting Jessie go through the doorway, watching it close behind her, smiling softly. "It's sad that she has to go." He mumbled, looking down at the world he left behind, "She would've been the greatest hero know in the universe."
....
A Year or so Ago....
Jessie sat in the forest, staring down at the town that held Endercon every year, and the town that would house the build that won the building competition. She let out a sigh, knowing that every year they lost, and this year wouldn't be all that different, the ocelot would get just that more cocky. She really couldn't blame them, they had the right to be considering they did always win.
She buried her head into her crossed arms, holding her knees to her chest. It's just not enough. Jessie thought to herself, Whatever we build we will never be good enough to beat them. She didn't let herself cry, but she felt as if tears would run down her cheeks if she didn't have control over her eyes. Instead of crying her eyes out over something stupid like a building competition, her eyes fluttered closed. Though it was night she found herself feeling safe, like even if she fell asleep nothing would happen to her. And she was right, but something else would happen that was much more important to the safety of the world.
....
Jessie opened her eyes, except she wasn't where she had fallen asleep on the hill by Endercon. She looked around, seeing nothing but white light surrounding her, squinting to try and see if anything was around that she could see. Maybe something that would tell her where she was. However nothing seemed to be in any direction except forward, where a dark purple light cut through the plain white. Jessie felt drawn to it, slowly walking forward to try and reach it. Though the closer she got, she felt her chest tighten, any sense of clam she had getting thrown out the window. There was someone standing in the light, with long ivory hair flowing down onto her armor, which matched the light almost perfectly. She couldn't see the person's face, but she quickened her pace to get closer. Though, when she was about four blocks away from the light, she found herself frozen, unable to keep walking. The armoured person turned around, making Jessie confused, wanting to take a step back but finding she was still frozen in place. "Hello Jessie." She said, a small, comforting, smile on her lips. The spoken girl looked confused, unsure of what was going on. "H-Hello." She stuttered out, feeling her hands shake slightly. Through the girl confront of her looked like her, Jessie couldn't shake the feeling that somehow it wasn't her. It had to be someone else. "Don't be so scared." The girl laughed, her armor clicking softly as she did, "I won't hurt you in any way. I'm simply here to give you a message." Jessie was confused by that. What message? Why would she need to receive a message in some sort of dream? "I don't understand." She said, straightening herself up to look as brave as she could to contrast with the dear she felt inside, "Who are you?" The girl smiled at the question, walking forward to stand in front of Jessie. "I'm surprised you haven't realized it. I'm you, or future you anyway." Was the girl's reply.
Thus made Jessie marvel at the girl in front of her, unable to imagine how this girl- looking so tough and confident- could possibly be her. "I know, you think that's insane don't you?" Future Jessie said with a smile, putting spoken words to her thoughts, "Just hear me out, Okay?" Jessie gave her a nod. "Look, something big is about to happen. So big you won't be able to get through it alone." She started, making Jessie want to ask questions but she kept her mouth shut instead. "You'll need to be brave for everyone around you. You'll need to protect your friends, and even the people you might not like so much." Jessie continued, "But keep them close, protect them at all costs. Because one day you might not be able to do any of that." Jessie scrunched up her face, "Why are you telling me this?" The girl sighed, shaking her head. "I'm telling you this for many reasons. Too many to explain so I'll say this to you." She paused before looking right into Jessie's eyes, "You're going to go through a lot of crap for the rest of your life. It'll get hard, So hard that you just want to crawl into a corner and give up. You're going to lose people along the way. You're going to make hard decisions that might end in disaster." Jessie looked frightened by the explanation, but she could tell it wasn't fnished. "But you can't let any of it stop you. No matter what happens, no matter who tries to push you into the dust and hold you there, you can't give up because sometimes," She had to stop for a moment before continuing, "because sometimes things need to get done that no one else will do. And it might be hard but you have to fight."
Jessie gulped quietly. "But all of this, all if this sounds terrible. Why would I want to go through that?" Jessie questioned, making her smile softly at the question. "Well, though there is lots of bad, there's even more good. You'll be closer to all of your friends and even make new ones. You'll find that someone you didn't really talk much with ends up being one of your best friends." She had to stop again, looking down sadly at the ground, "You'll even meet your true love. But all of that won't happen, if you don't roll up your sleeves and take down what's in your way." Jessie looked down at the white glow beneath her. She still didn't understand entierly.
"How am I supposed to fight anyone or anything? I'm just a loser who can never win a building competition that gets made fun of for having a pig as a friend." She pointed out, looking scared. The armored hero in front of her sighed, laughing almost, before looking up at her again. "Oh, I forgot how small I used to feel in the world." She narrowed her eyes, smile fading into a small frown, "Listen to me, the time will come when you have to be brave, and that's going to be scary. It'll never stop being scary. But you have to be brave for yourself, and everyone else around you." She away, going back towards the light before stopping again, turning around to look back at herself with slightly narrowed eyes, getting a wide-eyed look in respose.
"Do you understand what I have just said to you?"
"Yes, I think so."
Jessie nodded at her past self, nodding to her, "Have a good live kid. Don't make the same mistakes I did." The next thing she said would forever confuse her until the day came, "Oh, and don't put your sword between the monster's shoulder blades Okay?" Jessie found herself nodding before the girl turned away again, walking into the purple light as everything faded away.
One last thing before she woke up would echo around her head even when her eyes opened.
"Take care of them all for me."
....
Though Jessie found herself not wanting to leave, she looked at the newest doorway Magnus had opened, finding herself tearing up at the sight. A small pig was waiting for her on the other side, the small piggy grin she missed so much beaming out at her.
"I missed you Reuben."
