"Guess who's out there again," Fares announces cheerfully as he enters the small office located at the back of the cafe he owns.

Oriane, his wife, twists her body to the side while seated on her office chair and looks up at her husband, noticing the mischievous glint in his eyes. “Let me guess...What’s up, Doc?” She says, trying to imitate the voice of Bugs Bunny from Looney Tunes.

Fares snaps his fingers and points at her. “You got it, love!”

Oriane chuckles under her breath and shakes her head as she goes back to looking at the computer screen in front of her. “You should leave him alone and stop playing matchmaker to get him together with Dalia.”

“No, no, Ori, you need to hear me out!” Fares grabs a free chair from the side and pulls it toward him to take a seat beside his wife. “I think my plan worked this time.”

The woman groans and throws him a tired look. "Didn't I tell you to let them figure out their feelings for each other on their own?"

Fares takes hold of Oriane's hand and squeezes it gently. “Again, hear me out and let me explain first, Ori. It’s so frustrating to see the two of them talk for the past few months without any...action happening! I made the doctor realize something about his feelings for her and the rest is all up to them."

"Fares-"

"Hmm,” Fares hums in satisfaction, not minding how Oriane is almost at the limit of her patience with his nosiness. “Being smart does pay off with matchmaking.”

Oriane suddenly exclaims, bringing the man’s attention back to her, “Fares! I don’t like it when you play as fate and make it your call to pave a path for the both of them.” She huffs out a breath and faces the other way, not in the mood to get into the same level of energy her husband has currently.

He has always been like this ever since they first met. At first, Oriane hated him with a passion and she found him cocky along with embodying too much of the ‘savior complex’.

Yet hate always finds a way to turn into love. Oriane was never apathetic towards Fares because she knew that deep down she found him charming, smart, courageous - any of the good adjectives in the English language could describe that man. Oriane hated herself for succumbing to such mortal desires and impulses.

She made sure to keep her feelings intact for she could go on with life without him ever knowing about her true intentions, but they suddenly became close as friends and it hurt the girl a lot. Fares also sent a lot of mixed signals which Oriane found as a waste of time to decode each and every single word and action. For a smart man like him, he was such a dumbass for making her get confused all the time.

Fares sighs quietly and breaks off into a small smile as his other hand reaches over to cup Oriane’s cheek and gently moves her to gaze at him again. “I understand your apprehension,” he starts off slowly, tracing the apple of her cheeks that usually pop out all the more when Oriane smiles. “Remember that it took me a year and a half to finally tell you how I feel about you? And I know that you remember this, but what was your reaction again?”

Oriane pouts and sets her eyes downcast, recalling the night Fares suddenly confessed his feelings which ultimately caused her heart to seek calm amidst the turmoil. Though, that man did take his damn sweet time to finally tell her.

“I got mad,” she admits under her breath.

“What? I can’t hear you.” Oriane could hear the growing smirk in her husband’s voice.

“I got mad,” she repeats, raising her voice a bit and finally peering back into his eyes.

Fares presses on, asking her in a delicate voice, “And why were you mad, Ori?”

"Because you took your damn time to recognize those feelings," Oriane grumbles, pouting at him.

Cupping the other cheek, Fares all of a sudden confesses something he has been hiding within him for the past fours that they have been together as a couple, “I’ve always been angry at myself for not saying anything to you sooner,” his voice is laced with regret, “I should have told you that you meant something to me the minute I figured out my feelings.”

Oriane’s eyes widen in shock with the abrupt confession and she shakes her head minimally as she reaches up a hand to place it over his hand resting on her cheek. “Don’t beat yourself up because of that. We’re married now. We have each other now.”

“Yeah, but I could have been with you longer, you know? Being with you makes me happy, love, and I know that you’re happy too. You don’t need to say it because I feel it. The happiness we have for each other is something meant for other people to feel as well.”

Oriane gazes lovingly at her husband and she tilts her head a bit to press a kiss on the palm of his hand.

Fares continues, “The opportunity to help two people find each other is right in front of us, Ori. I think it’s human nature to give them an extra push. It’s giving them something that we both missed in the initial stages of our relationship.”

“Hey,” she coos, “I’m not mad at you anymore, okay? That only lasted for the first few days of us figuring out what we wanted out of each other. I was head over heels for you, Fares. And I still am,” she finishes.

The corners of his mouth twitch up, forming a smile on his face. “Boy, I am lucky to have you.” Fares leans in, closing his eyes, and captures her lips with his, melting into their kiss as he feels her kiss him back and smile into the kiss.

Oriane wraps her arms around his neck and pulls him closer, relishing the way her lips move along with his and how much she truly loves her husband. She draws back first, pecking his lips one more time before her eyes slowly flutter open and a grin forms on her face as her dazed eyes stay in lock with Fares. "You're the only one who makes me feel these things," she murmurs.

"And you're the only one who makes sure that I don't fly too close to the sun."

“Promise me that you’ll never be like Icarus.”

Fares chuckles and kisses his wife on the lips again. “With you by my side,” he whispers against her lips, “I doubt that’ll ever happen.”

“I won’t stop you with whatever you’re planning for the doctor and Dalia. At least promise me that you’ll give them free coffee when they finally get together.”

“Ori, I am waaaaay ahead of you on that.” Fares cocks his head to the side as he leans back on the chair. "Speaking of coffee,” he stands and heads to the doorway, “I have to check with what’s happening outside before we get...busy again.” He suggestively raises his eyebrows at her and Oriane giggles amidst her blushing cheeks. “Do you want your fill for today?"

"No, thank you," she politely declined his offer.
"Not in the mood for caffeine again? It’s almost been a week since you’ve last had your cup of coffee."

"Y-Yeah, yeah,” she stammers and goes back to looking at the computer screen which has switched off on its own since she hasn’t moved the mouse for quite some time. “Just a change of mood...hot cocoa, though, would be great."

"Of course. Anything for my lovely wife." He opens the door behind him and smiles widely at her for one last time before heading back to the main part of the cafe.

After waiting for a few seconds more after he leaves, Oriane heaves out a long sigh in content then looks down at her belly. The bump is not growing yet, but she knows that there is life in there at this very moment. A life that she is growing excited about with each passing day. And she knows that when Fares finds out, he'll be as excited as her. She strokes her belly softly before patting it. "Baby, we'll tell him about you some other time, okay? For now, let's let him play as Cupid."
