~Chapter 21~

As Soo Ha left, Jeon watched her go when suddenly he heard an evil laugh behind him. It was Young Min. After her laughter faded, she said with a wicked smirk, “You want to know what I’m planning? Well, I’m planning my wedding. You see, I never liked Jessica and her silly interference in my life.” She began walking around Jeon in a circular motion, continuing, “Let me clear this up: I was the one who spoiled her dress at the debut party. I wanted my team to get the best attention, but her dress and good image spread like wildfire. Every corner I turned, I heard at least one person gossiping positively about her. This made me furious; I couldn’t resist. So I pretended to stumble so my soft drink could ruin her dress.”

Jeon listened in astonishment, keeping silent as she spoke. “If you call me a villain, I don’t care. I prioritize myself over anyone else. If you want to label it as selfish, that’s not my problem. I spoiled her dress so she would be busy dealing with it, giving me time to manage my image in front of everyone. But it didn’t make any difference; they still treated her like a goddess! Honestly, I’ve loved Ji Hu since the day he debuted. My love for him was pure. But when I saw him cut his hand at the party trying to protect her, and the way she spoke back to him, it made me furious.”

Jeon was taken aback, recalling the incident where Jessica had helped Ji Hu to the parking lot after that very party.

Young Min continued with her story, “Honestly, every time people praised her, I got really annoyed. I didn’t care much at first, but when she proposed to my Ji Hu right in front of me, she crossed all her limits. That was truly a crime. Out of anger, I ended up breaking the glass because I squeezed it so hard. As things changed and Ji Hu and Soo Ha both began to trust Jessica less, I seized the chance to get back at her. So if you’re wondering how I convinced him, I pretended to scroll through social media. When I saw him looking through the mirror, I started acting like I was mumbling about how much I loved him and how hurt I was. Once he left, I knew my plan had worked. The next day, he told me he would marry me, and yes! It all worked out. Soo Ha also doesn’t keep much contact with Jessica anymore, thanks to my influence. I’m a MASTER MIND!” She smirked.

Jeon burst into laughter as soon as she stopped, leaving her confused. After about five minutes, still chuckling, he said, “You... You just got... jealous, didn’t you? You were like... oh my god! One thing is clear: you don’t truly love Ji Hu; he’s just become your obsession! So stop dreaming, because I won’t let him fall into your trap. I’ll show him who truly loves him and who’s using him. Mark my words!” He pointed two fingers, the index and middle, to his eyes, then back at her, meaning ‘I’m watching you,’ before walking away. As he left, she said to herself, “Let’s see, Mr. Jeon, who wins this game! Heh.” She walked off with a smirk and a slight grin. Jeon, aware of the trouble ahead, rushed home, unsure of what to do. By then, Eun Rii had already told Jessica everything that had happened at Ji Hu's house after she ended the call.

However, none of this changed Jessica's perspective; her feelings remained unresolved. She said, “I feel like I have to endure even more in the future,” before heading to her room, feeling frustrated. When Eun Rii came out of her guest room, she noticed Jeon wandering around the living room from upstairs. As soon as she came down, she asked what was wrong. Jeon didn’t want to share anything, so he brushed it off.

But after a couple of minutes, he reconsidered. Knowing that Eun Rii was clever, capable, and understanding, he thought she might help him solve this mystery and put an end to Young Min's schemes. Even if she couldn’t directly help, he figured he could at least get some advice, and any minor results could be worthwhile. With that in mind, he decided to share everything with Eun Rii, hoping she wouldn’t spill anything to Jessica. He led her to the garden, and as they sat on a bench, he began, “I have something important to talk about.”

“Spill the beans, bunny!” she replied.

“Well...” He recounted everything that had happened at HYBE in detail, explaining the situation clearly. Eun Rii’s understanding of the events matched his description perfectly. After he finished, she exclaimed, “Omo! Jinjja? How can she be so rude!”

“Ne! I realized one thing: she definitely doesn’t love him,” Jeon added.

“Ne, he’s just her obsession. And as you said, she’s really jealous of Jessica. She’s cast an evil eye on her, and that’s why Jessica’s life turned miserable so suddenly.”

“It’s destiny’s plan, Eun-ah. I really want to do something to eliminate this problem at its root before it causes a huge drama! Ottoke?”

“Ne, majayo! I’ll think about this and let you know.”

Jeon smiled with relief and wrapped up the conversation, saying, “Khumawo! You don’t know how much you’ve helped me.” They went their separate ways. While Eun Rii was considering her plan, she decided to talk to Ji Hu and Young Min separately, pretending to support their decisions so she could find a way to intervene.

As time passed, Jessica entered the kitchen to make some coffee. While she was preparing it, Jeon came in to grab some cold water and opened the refrigerator. Jessica initiated a conversation, “Jeon-ah, did you talk to Ji Hu-ya?”

“Ne! I did talk to him. He said he would talk to you, but only as a friend. I think that’s what you should do too, since he’s marrying Young Min.” Jeon didn’t expect Jessica to be shocked; he knew she was already aware of the situation. Jessica’s expression turned sad, looking bothered but not surprised. Still, Jeon pretended not to know she was informed, adding, “You knew already? I can see it on your face.”

Jessica nodded in response. Wanting to change the subject, Jeon asked, “Did you listen to our album?”

Jessica shook her head in denial. Then Jeon encouraged her, “You should stream our album!”

Later, Jessica found herself feeling really bored and aimless, so she stepped into the garden and sat alone on one of the benches. Remembering Jeon’s suggestion to stream his album, she decided to listen to his song and put on her headphones. As she listened to the unfamiliar melodies, one voice stood out, saying, “Whatever is meant for you will come to pass, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't strive for it.” This sounded familiar to Jessica; she felt she had heard it before.

She tried hard to recall where those words came from and began to delve into the pages of her childhood. As she went deeper into her memories, it finally clicked—it was from a dream she had when she was in the orphanage. In that dream, a huge blurry figure had spoken those very words to her. Now, as she closed her eyes, bringing that dream back to mind, the figure’s features gradually became clear. It was none other than Park Ji Hu.

Jessica was startled by this revelation. She had seen her love in her dreams at such a young age! Anxiety welled up within her, and she abruptly stopped the music, running inside to her room. She collapsed onto the floor, tears streaming down her face, feeling heartbroken over her inability to win Ji Hu back. Deep inside, she felt shattered, convinced she didn’t deserve his love. Yet, the more she tried to forget him, the deeper she fell for him. She felt suffocated, trapped within her own destiny.

As she wept, she finally mustered the courage to stop crying. Glancing at her reflection in the mirror, she took her foundation, wiped away her tears, and applied it, determined to ensure no one would know she had cried.

While applying her makeup, the words kept echoing in her mind. She analyzed the phrase: “Whatever is meant for you will come to pass, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't strive for it.” Suddenly, she discovered the hidden message within it. She spoke to her reflection, “Ne! Why shouldn't I try? Why should I just wait, trusting in fate? It doesn’t mean I shouldn’t strive for it! Yes! Omo! I found my way!”

With a burst of joy, she leaped through the corridor upstairs, only to stumble upon Eun Rii, who was walking, pondering what to do. Seeing Jessica, who was joyfully dancing around and repeating those words, Eun Rii gave her a suspicious look and thought,“ She looks so happy! What could have made her jump to cloud nine?” With that, Eun Rii walked away, leaving Jessica to celebrate her newfound determination.

She danced wildly, swinging vases left and right, her carefree energy filling the room. When Jeon entered, he thought she must be drunk. As he watched her, a slight smile spread across his face; he couldn’t help but adore her happiness. He whispered to himself, “I wish she could be this happy every day. My mornings would be so much better if she were.” Leaning against the pillar, he enjoyed her smile and dance.

But just then, Jessica tripped over a carpet while holding a vase, losing her balance. As she was about to fall, she found herself caught in Jeon’s arms, the vase still in her hand. Jeon exclaimed, “I’ve met an angel in person!”

Jessica quickly slipped out of his embrace, surprised. “Eh? Mwo?”

He replied, “Ah! Aniyo! Well... Did you listen to our album? How was it? Which song did you listen to?”

Distracted by thoughts of Ji Hu, Jessica responded, “Ne! I’ll always be grateful to STB for making such a song! It answered all my questions. His voice, his verse, that incident—everything is interconnected! I—I’m speechless!” Suddenly, she remembered she wasn’t supposed to hurt Jeon since he loved her too. She paused, and Jeon, sensing her distraction, asked, “Mwo? His voice? His verse? What incident? What are you saying, girl?”

Jessica shook her head, smiling as she playfully patted Jeon’s cheeks, cupped his face, shook it, then punched it lightly before hugging him tightly, almost strangling him in her excitement. All her actions left Jeon feeling like the world was spinning around him. Yet, seeing Jessica so joyful made him happy, and he said, “That made my day! Aish, my head feels heavy!” He walked away, rubbing his temples.

Eun Rii, witnessing this, began to take an interest in Jeon and Jessica's relationship, but a voice in her head reminded her that Jeon deserved better. She smiled at Jeon’s happiness and walked away, momentarily forgetting her plans.

As dusk fell, Ji Hu exited the HYBE company. Just then, he saw a white car pull up in front of him. It was Eun Rii, who honked and shouted, “Yaa! Come on, get in! Today’s lift is on me! Ga ja!” Ji Hu smiled, grateful, and approached the car. “How did you know I was going to get a taxi?” he asked.

“Young Min texted me!” she replied. “She said she’d be coming home late, so I asked about you. She mentioned you’d be heading out early and taking a taxi since she wanted to use the car.” Eun Rii rolled her eyes, feeling disgusted with Young Min for being so selfish and inconsiderate.
