Running the Maze - Minho Part 1

You were one of the first to arrive in the Glade, and so far, the only girl. Either than that, you worked in the Glade like everyone else. There was no exception, everyone must work.

You were great friends with everyone in the Glade, except maybe Gally. At times he seemed too selfish and arrogant for her liking. You're best friend, however, was probably Minho.

Minho was a runner in the Glade, so he was always gone most the day. But when he got back, it was the best moments of the day. You really wished you could spend more time with him, but that would mean becoming a runner, and they would never let you do that. Instead, you worked in the garden, tending to the plants everyday.

You were in the middle of plucking out weeds when you saw Minho run out of the maze. You smiled as he sat on the ground, catching his breath.

You wanted to talk to him as soon as possible, so you hurried to get most the weeds out and ran over to where Minho was sitting and sat down next to him.

"Hey, Y/N"

"Hey, Minho. How was the maze?"

"Oh, the usual--tiring." He laughed to himself, "but it has to be done."

"Yeah, it seems like a challenging job. Say, what if you... had another runner?" You said, looking down, the grass suddenly seemed interesting.

"Y/N, you aren't saying that you want to be a runner, are you?"

"Well, I'm just saying that the gardens are so boring and--" you started, but Minho cut you off.

"And being a runner is hard. I understand why you think your job is boring, but someone has to do it."

"There is already plenty of people working the gardens! Plus, the greenie doesn't have a job yet, he can replace me." Minho stared at you for a second. "Please, Minho," You begged, "If I can't make it, I promise I will never ask you again."

Minho say, thinking, then said, "I guess, but I don't want you to get hurt. So you have to stay by me at all times."

"Deal," You agreed, you were confident that you would make it.

You spent the rest of the day hanging out with Minho and the other gladers. You even got to watch Gally and Minho wrestle-in which case you cheered for Minho. When night fell, you layed on the grass with Minho and gazed at the stars as the maze closed.

"So why do you want to be a runner so bad, Y/N?" Minho asked, looking over at you when the maze had silenced.

"I told you, I got tired of working in the gardens." you replied, meeting his gaze with your own.

"Oh, well, I just figured there was something else..." Minho half-laughed, "I don't know, maybe I'm being silly."

"Why? What do you think the reason is?" you asked, your heart was already starting to race.

"It's nothing, just nonsense."

"No, I want to hear," you pleaded.

"Okay, well," He started, "I just thought that the reason you wanted to join was to spend more time together."

"Oh?"

"Yeah, which would be awesome. Maybe that's why I decided to let you come with me to try it out." Minho sighed a sigh of frustration and propped himself up, "Y/N, I just want to be with you more, but I don't want you to get hurt..." he layed back down, looking at the stars.

"Minho, I..." you started.

"No, you don't even need to say it. I already know what you are going to say. You're going to say that you would prefer to just be friends. Am I not right?"

"No." You replied softly.

Minho sat up, "What?"

"That's not true." You could feel the blood rushing to your face, "Minho the main reason I asked to come with you is just so I could spend time with you. I get tired of waiting for you to come back, and even then I don't have you to myself."

You both sat there, quiet. You decided to sit up and face Minho. He looked at you, then smiled. "You had me transfixed since the day you came up in the box. Y/N, you mean the world to me. Everytime I leave the maze and come back, the first thing I do is look for you. And when I find you, it's the greatest feeling in the world."

You could feel yourself blushing even more. You couldn't conjure up the words to say. You just looked at Minho dumbly while he looked down at the ground then back up at you. It was hard to tell whether he was blushing or not since it was night, but you could barely see his cheeks becoming more rosy.

Suddenly, Minho leaned forward and cupped your cheek with his hand, pulling your face into his. You gave in and allowed yourself to be lost in the moment. Soon, the kissing became more intense and you both had to pull away to breathe. Afterward, you and Minho looked at each other, smiling.

"Come on Y/N, let's head back." he said, still smiling.
