Chapter Two: Potential ("Orphanage" [p.2])
"You bitch!" the man yelled from outside the courtroom. His little boy wanted to cry, not totally understanding why his father was so upset.
She ignored him, continuing to make her way into the building. She had already become victorious; she was only here to humor the man. The chances of him coming out on top were slim. He'd signed the paper, she'd kept it, and the judge would see the real contents of the pages that he failed to read two months before. Dr. Takeyama almost pitied him—this could have avoided on his part if he had done what any responsible adult had done and paid attention.
Her two bodyguards glanced at the man and shook their heads, hoping to get their message across. The Jury was definitely going to be on her side, so this should probably go without a hitch.
· · ·
It did. She won. The man didn't even stand a chance against her and the biased court filled with her people. Now all that was left was to actually start the project.
"Of course, Michael," Dr. Takeyama said cheerfully, "everything went perfectly! I'm going to pick him up from your daycare and take him to the orphanage this afternoon."
"That's good to hear," her business partner, Michael told her over the phone, "I'll have him ready when you get here."
"Good," Dr. Takeyama responded, "we'll have so much fun together, him and I!"
"Perfect," Michael was smiling on the other line, just as oblivious as the man, "I'll see you later today?"
"Of course. See you then," she ended the conversation.
"See you then," Michael replied and hung up.
Dr. Takeyama smiled to herself, continuing to help her bodyguards move the stuff she'd just bought into her car. Several people passing admired the vehicle, having never seen the car in their humble neighborhood shopping center.
· · ·
"Here you go, Yu," Michael smiled, handing over the baby boy in his arms and giving the bodyguards the bag with diapers and food.
"I'll update you on how he's doing soon, okay?" Dr. Takeyama questioned.
"Please," Michael nodded, "I normally don't grow attached to the children, but he's managed to get to me."
"That's sweet, I'll make sure he grows up knowing this," the doctor told him.
"Good," Michael made eye contact with the boy one more time, "I have to get back in now. My other staff are alone in the baby ward..."
"I get it," the doctor held the baby in one arm and waved, "I'll see you around."
Michael beamed as he turned back towards the building, heading inside to help his employees. Dr. Takeyama looked after him, waiting until he was out of sight and earshot to start getting in her car. The baby looked back at the building, along with the rest of its surroundings curiously. Dr. Takeyama couldn't wait to use this curious thing to her advantage.
"I'm so glad to finally have you with me, (Y/n)," her bright look had a dark hint to it, hiding away behind her walls, "you have so much potential."
· · ·
"Hand me the syringe labeled 'Enhancer'," Dr. Takeyama told her lab assistant, "and the one labeled 'Anti-Defect'."
"Got it," the older man replied, handing her the 'Enhancer' one and holding the other for her while she worked.
"I'm so lucky to have you working with me," she praised, "you know just how to read my mind..."
"I suppose," the older guy beamed.
"It's too bad I can't tell you what all of this is for," she droned as she put the first empty syringe down, "really, it is."
The older man hummed, "I guess, but it's alright," he handed her the one labeled 'Anti-Defect'.
Dr. Takeyama injected a tiny amount of the liquid from the syringe into the mixture in front of her. The older man, her assistant watched curiously as she worked, wondering what in the world she could be up to. He wondered if she was going to use this new mixture on the young child she was to watch for the next few years.
It wasn't long before he figured he was correct, as he was asked to go fetch the child. He wasn't sure if he should have been the one to do it, as he'd never held a baby like the boy. When he brought the baby into the room, he saw Dr. Takeyama put a small amount of the (now black and warm) mixture in a new syringe. He saw her switch out the needle for a thinner one and immediately became nervous. She was going to inject the kid.
He hesitantly handed the infant over, going to grab soundproof headphones to protect them when the baby cried. He honestly hated that they weren't allowed to have them in all the time, as there was no telling when a baby would decide to scream. He wondered why she would inject this child, in particular as well. What did she see in him opposed to the other ones here in the "orphanage?"
"Dr. Takeyama, may I ask why you are using this child for whatever you are doing?" he asked, gaining an offended look from the doctor, "you know, opposed to a stronger, older one whose cries can't kill us?"
"Oh!" Dr. Takeyama chirped, "that's simple! This one has such amazing potential... His quirk is amazing, and there's so much I can add to it to make him even more powerful."
"Doctor, no offense, but I know you are making a specimen with a strong quirk like this to become a hero," the older man called her out, knowing of her past villainous acts, "so why?"
"Easy, he's going to become a villain," she suddenly grinned, looking slightly insane, "I don't mean to out All For One down too much, but he's too weak to face All Might."
"Elaborate?" the older man wondered what she meant. Hadn't All For One proved himself capable?
"All For One has proven that he can go against All Might and live," Dr. Takeyama stated, "he can't win, though. I want to create a villain that can win—that can destroy the Symbol of Peace everyone depends on so greatly."
The older man was silent with thought for a second, "I've never fully understood why you want the idea of a peace symbol to bite the dust so much..."
"It's because nobody can imagine real danger anymore. They stand around watching like idiots while villains destroy whole cities!" Dr. Takeyama sounded upset, "don't worry guys! All Might will always save us! Yeah, well, I want to show them a world where he can't."
The older man didn't respond to that and instead just looked at the child he'd allowed to have this fate. He really took the undeveloped features of the kid. He had large, teary, clueless eyes, a little bit of hair on his head, and he just breathed oblivion. All of these described the infant's appearance, but there was something behind the basic baby face. It made Dr. Takeyama's assistant wonder if perhaps the baby knew things; if he knew his mother was gone, he'd never live a normal family life, he was set up to end up in a bad place- the works.
Nah... he doesn't know anything. Poor kid...
(So, before I finished this I was listening to this song and I think I know what the ending for this story is going to be. Don't worry, it won't end soon, but when it does I now know how I want to close this. I'm going to be so upset when I end this story, though... I've grown so attached to it and my writing has grown so much during the production of this. I felt this way about the characters in my old stories on my old account... and... I kinds want to apologize to them for cutting their stories short... Sorry, this is stupid, but it's just... Imagine having the ability to let something live, even if only on the page, but you can't because an old stalker might find you. That's how I feel about these characters. Wow, I'm rambling, sorry about that, but I had to get it off my chest! I'll do my little apology thing at the very end of this chapter.)
(This Was 1502 Words!)
(Extra:)
"Lift your head and look out the window,
Stay that way for the rest of the day and watch the time go,
Listen,
The birds sing,
Listen,
The bells ring,
All the living are dead,
And the dead are all living,
The war is over,
And we are beginning..."
(Apology:)
(I'm sorry that I had to put this in, but my characters are so precious to me and I feel like I did them wrong... So... I'm sorry Damian, James, Amitosa and Sasha, I'm sorry Kay and Ja'far, I'm sorry Kittim Karasuma and Gene Kaniyeisha, I'm sorry to Lilith and Mikey—I'm sorry I cut all of your stories short. Maybe one day I won't fear my stalker and you guys can live on the page through my words again. But, until that day, I'm sorry that I'm too much of coward to do anything but smile at the thoughts of you.)
