Chapter Six: Separation Is Key

Aizawa wasn't sure whether he should be worried or annoyed. It had been far too long since (Y/n) had left the apartment. He'd gotten a call from a random number earlier, and now he was wondering if maybe he should have picked it up. (Y/n) hadn't been passing out as much as usual lately, so it shouldn't have been that.

His phone rang. Why the hell is Midnight calling me?

"Yes?" Aizawa groaned tiredly.

"Aizawa?" this had better be good. "This is Kayama. I got a call from the hospital just now, and (Y/n)'s in there with some other student. They called me because you apparently declined their call."

"(Y/n)'s in the hospital? Why?" Aizawa questioned.

"I don't know. The operator said that a doctor would elaborate when one of us arrived," Midnight answered.

"It seems like the two of them had induced seizures," the doctor told Aizawa and Kayama, "we aren't exactly sure what caused it, but all other natural causes are a negative."

"May I ask who the other student is?" Aizawa questioned, hoping maybe that would give him an idea.

"The other patient has been identified as a U.A. student called Neito Monoma," the doctor told them.

That didn't make sense. (Y/n) and Monoma hadn't really interacted, to Aizawa's knowledge. If it was just (Y/n), maybe they could connect it to some kind of nutrition-related illness... The real problem with that was the Monoma was perfectly healthy. He was well fed and most likely got the right vitamins, so he shouldn't be affected by the same things as (Y/n).

"Considering their positions and the nature of their quirks, there is a possibility that the seizures were had due to their quirks. It isn't a common thing that happens, but it isn't unheard of," the Doctor offered, "or it may have been the woman who called the ambulances for them; both of them were in very close proximity with her when it happened."

"Is there a way to prevent these things in the future?" Kayama wondered aloud, "if this is something that happens, then U.A. is definitely a candidate for more of these accidents."

"I'm afraid not. The best that can be done is just to know what to do when it happens," the Doctor informed them.

Interference Approaching

(Y/n)'s eyes shot up. It had been less than a day since he was out of the hospital and back at school, and that voice was in the rear of his mind again. Who is that? What do they want?

His eyes almost immediately met with the icy blue ones of Neito Monoma. The two of them instantly thought to stop in their tracks. Why is he looking at me too?

The hallways emptied little by little. Neither of them moved an inch in that time, despite this, though. It was as if there was some unanimous decision to speak when everyone else had left. It was... eerie? The school building seemed deserted, the only indicator that there were others being the ever so muffled voices in the classes.

"Monoma, right?" (Y/n) asked.

"Yeah..." Monoma answered, sounding suspicious.

"Why'd you stop? We're not really friends..." (Y/n) wondered, beating around the bush.

Monoma lowered his voice to a whisper, still not stepping closer. "You hear it—her—too. Don't you?"

The voice? Why... why would he of all people hear this?

"And if I do?" (Y/n) asked carefully.

"Well, then it looks like we should do something about it," Monoma put forward.

"Okay..." (Y/n) was still unsure, and he was beginning to feel queasy like he had before. "Should we try to figure out who she is?"

Monoma went quiet and even more rigid. He began to massage his temples, fighting off another blistering headache. He quickly came to a conclusion.

"I don't think so," Monoma stated, "remember, being in a small enough radius of each other causes pain and the voice to go off— not to mention the seizures that come with contact."

"Oh, you're right," (Y/n) responded, "then, do we just ignore it?"

"I think the best thing we can do is avoid each other as much as possible," Monoma sighed, "it won't be much now, with us going to the same school. When we get older, though, we can take action by moving far apart."

"You sound like you've put a lot of thought into this," (Y/n) commented.

"I haven't, it just seemed like a good course of action at the moment," Monoma ran a hand through his hair.

"Wait," (Y/n) said as the two began to depart, "isn't this, you know... running away?"

"That's exactly what it is," Monoma clarified.

"That doesn't bother you?" (Y/n) asked, "I mean, we're learning how to be people who don't do that."

"Look, I've heard that you're apparently naïve and stuff like that, so you might not have heard this," Monoma sighed again, "but sometimes we need to run before we can conquer."

(Y/n) gave him a confused look, pulling another exasperated sigh from Monoma's lungs.

"We're high schoolers," Monoma deadpanned, "we don't have the resources to do anything about this. The best thing we can do is not hurt ourselves in the meantime. Got it?"

"Yeah..." (Y/n) said.

"Good, now," Monoma got a look of annoyance on his face, "we're both going to get an earful from our teachers."

"Hey, Neito?" a bubbly blonde called.

"Hmm?" Monoma turned, "Melissa, hey."

"How've you been?" she asked walking with him.

"I've been alright, why?" Monoma wondered.

"Well, you haven't been on a vacation to your home since you moved here!" Melissa pointed out, "I was just wondering how you were holding up. You probably miss your parents, right?"

"Uh..." Monoma froze, "well, you know, getting flights to Japan has been a hassle since that villain group has been causing trouble."

"I totally forgot about that..." Melissa sighed sadly, "that's too bad. I really wish I could take you there."

"Please, it's not a big deal," Monoma smiled softly at his friend, "I call whenever I get the chance."

"Well yeah," Melissa pushed, "but calling and seeing people are two different things!"

"I'm serious, Melissa," Monoma scratched the back of his neck, "I'm fine, even if I haven't to Japan in years."

"And you're one hundred percent sure?" Melissa asked again.

"Of course I am," Monoma clarified.

After all, separation is key.

(So I actually wrote a chapter a while before the deadline! I hope you guys enjoyed this surprise chapter. Anyway, outside of that, for those of you read 'L+L', I have an announcement. I should be getting the story back on track soon! It'll probably be updated every 1-2 weeks once it's back on a schedule. Also, for those of you who are current readers of 'Monster,' I wanted to apologize for the lack of updates! I've been busy, 'Mayhem' in my main priority, and I didn't have the heart to put another story on hiatus.)

(This Was 1177 Words!)

(Extra:)

"What is this place?"

"From what I've heard, it'd the old lab of that villain that got away, The Scientist."

"Shit!" the person gasped for breath, "guys... look at this."

"What the fuck?"

"Please tell me this isn't what it looks like..."

"I'm going to be sick—"

"We should report this place."

"Wait! I... oh god... Guys, this— look at this."

"Is that... (Y/n)?"

"Yeah, and I think this is Monoma..."
