Arc Seven, What A Wonderful World; Chapter One: Five Years Gone By

"Hey, uh, Mr. Todoroki?"

"You don't have to be so formal, (Y/n), but what do you need?" Todoroki asked thoughtfully, looking over his shoulder.

"Why do we keep moving? Can't we just leave like everyone else did?"

"The borders are guarded and the airports have been shut down. Plus, we're waiting for someone."

"I don't understand why you guys can't tell me more about what's going on. I think I should know."

"If I could tell you, I would, (Y/n) — Really. But he's the only one who could even guess at why we're still here." Todoroki glared at his lover across the room, only slightly serious.

"What do you want from me, Shou? I would have packed up earlier, but he was pretty much right. Eight months was all it took, and now the place is completely deserted."

"I know you know where they are, Doctor," All For One grumbled. "why not just tell me?"

"Why should I tell you when she can?" Dr. Takeyama made eye contact with Toga, glaring at the blonde.

All For One turned towards the younger woman, watching as she avoided his gaze. He felt a bit silly, not thinking to check with her after not getting an answer from Dabi. Deep down, he possibly thought that she might know, but in the event she didn't tell, it would be a shame to have to cut her too.

"Himiko."

"Yes..?"

"You don't intend to actually make me ask, I believe."

"I... they're..."

She hated herself even more than Dabi did when he heard what she'd done. Not only had she given (Y/n) up, but she'd put Todoroki, Kirishima, Bakugou, and the kid in danger as well. Toga knew it was wrong, but she couldn't stop herself. Something had come over her, a quirk, possibly, but she had had no way of controlling herself.

When she met up with Dabi later, he didn't take it as a good enough excuse. He yelled at her at first, calling her names and shaming her for giving out where they're friends/family were hiding at the moment.

They'd had to move too much already thanks to the region shutting down and being torn apart by the league. Now, though, they were going to have to leave right after settling again. Toga knew that it would be hard on them, and that was why Dabi couldn't forgive her.

That night when Dabi left their usual meeting place, Toga feared that they'd never meet there again. Even if he let it go at some point, she knew the trust that was there was damaged.

"Shou, are you sure this is a good time?" (Y/n) looked over at him, unsure.

"Yeah. We've long since sorted ourselves out, and you know that it'll actually be good for the kid, too," Todoroki answered, glancing up at the sign on the building again.

After solving their problems and finding closure in each other (which took an excruciating two years), their relationship picked up even further off than they'd left it. When Todoroki got wind of the orphanage that was closing down and couldn't take all the kids out of Kanto, he felt that it was just right. (Y/n) ended up feeling the same.

They opened the doors slowly when they walked in, surprised by the almost absolute silence of the place. They knew not to expect it to be loud all the time, but this seemed too quiet. A woman was sitting in the chair, speaking to some children in a far corner of the room, and there was one older kid who seemed preoccupied looking after twin girls.

The place wasn't as large as it seemed from the outside, but it seemed cozy and home-like. (Y/n)'s attention was caught at first by some of the younger ones, but Todoroki had immediately focussed on the eldest.

"Oh dear-" the woman pulled one of the smaller children into her lap- "you're two of those villains."

"Yeah..." Todoroki answered sheepishly.

"We're looking to adopt." (Y/n) shifted his position, leaning on his left leg.

"I can't trust you, I should call help—"

"Miss, these kids aren't safe here, and you can see that the heroes have done nothing to help them or you," Todoroki sighed. "let us do it. Nothing bad will happen to him, I promise."

Todoroki looked over at and made eye-contact with the oldest kid, seeing his eyes go wide. He wasn't sure how to read the emotion that flooded over the teen's face, but he didn't perceive it as anything specifically negative.

"Me?"

The sudden knock at the door startled him. It was only him and (Y/n) at home, and he saw everyone grab their keys before leaving for the day.

"Hey, Pops! Someone's at the door," he called to the back room. "Should I answer it?"

(Y/n) peeked around the corner, looking at the door. Through the translucent glass, he could a masculine silhouette with blond hair. (Y/n) knew almost right away who he was (technically) looking at. It had been a few years, but it wasn't as if they had many blond friends.

He hesitated before giving an answer. On one hand, he always got this feeling when Monoma was around, but... Monoma Neito was still a hero. For all he knew, this was a ploy he was using to take them out. It wouldn't be surprising if some of the hero agencies had called foreign backup to assist them with Japan's villain surplus.

"Are you guys here?" Monoma asked from outside.

(Y/n) decided to take the risk. Something told him at the last second that he could trust Monoma. Some sort of tie between them, perhaps.

As opened the door, (Y/n) almost immediately regretted opening the door. There was something in Monoma's eyes, something dark. Whatever he had found since the last time they'd met wasn't good, and the mellowed-out villain wasn't sure he wanted to hear it.

"I found this guy, and he told me where we need to go, (Y/n)," Monoma said abruptly.

"What?" (Y/n) asked, confused.

"You've heard of that old villain, the Scientist, right?" Monoma asked quietly.

The teen listening to this in the background was shocked. He'd heard of that villain in school once or twice. The other eternal villain who surfaced years after All For One. What did Monoma and (Y/n) have to do with the Scientist?

"It doesn't ring a bell." (Y/n) stepped back, allowing Monoma into the house.

"The Scientist is another villain that seems to live forever. They surfaced years after All For One," Monoma explained. "A few, including myself believed that they wanted to teach the world something... taking out All For One looked like it might've been a part of the plan."

"What's this got to do with us?"

"They disappeared roughly around the time we would have been three or four, and all I could get out of the old assistant is that we're somehow involved."

"That's a load of crap."

"We won't know until we look for ourselves."

"No."

"Pack a bag, (Y/n). This might be a long trip."

"I can't, and I won't just up and leave, Monoma. I've got a kid to look after."

"Your kid is old enough to look after himself. Besides, he'll have the other three, won't he?"

"..." (Y/n) didn't say anything. He looked away from Monoma, glancing briefly at the other person in the room.

"You didn't think they were coming with us, did you?" Monoma waited for a reply, then sighed. "(Y/n), they can't come with us. It'll be safer for them."

"I'll talk it over with the guys when they get back, but you had best expect the negative."

"Hey kid, what's your name?" Todoroki asked, sitting across from him at one of the interviewing desks.

"(Y/n)."

"What a coincidence; that's this guy's name too." Todoroki gestured over to (Y/n), who was looking around the room.

"Why did you choose me? This isn't where and when you find relationships."

"Well, I originally found my relationships where they weren't supposed to be, y' know?"

"That doesn't make sense."

"Then talk your sense to us, kid." (Y/n) piped up, finally looking interested.

(Okay everyone! I'm gonna cry! It's official! Remember when I said this was going to be a five-arc story and then I made the sixth arc? Well... that's not happening again. [?]. This is the "final" arc of this story. I'm not sure how many chapters it will hold, but please don't expect it to be as long as arcs three and six. I want to drag it out as much as possible [I don't want the story to end!], but the story still has to keep moving. That said, I believe I'm releasing or two books after this one ends, so look out for them! Also, I may have already used this song already, but oh well! Finding songs that work for chapters is hard, and I felt like this one worked!)
