CHAPTER NINE, finally free
Tessa had her electric guitar on that was the color blue, the strap that went with it was black and it had little silver stars on it. She was back in the studio with Alex, Reggie, and Julie, the four of them practicing a new song they had been working on for the gig. Tessa had been wanting to play her electric guitar more and get better at it. She planned to play it a little during the song, and then play the keyboard for the rest of the song.
Luke suddenly appeared, sitting down on a chair. He stared at the two girls with surprise, not expecting them to be there. "Woah, Julie, Tess-"
"Grab your guitar. We got work to do." Julie interrupted him with a smile.
"Yeah, come on, birthday boy." Tessa grinned at him, earning a surprised and confused look from Luke.
Luke then smiles chuckling as he grabs his electric guitar. He walks over to Julie, raising his eyebrows. "What made you guys come back?"
"We realized how important music is to all of us. And we've lost so much already. We can't lost this too." Julie replied.
Luke nods, looking at her with a grateful smile. "Thanks. Allright, boss. Where we at?" He grinned, earning a chuckle from Julie.
"Oh, and by the way, happy birthday." Julie tells him. Luke stares at her in surprise, but soon a smile tugs on his lips. Julie chuckles and smiles. "Let's go from the pre-chorus."

Later that night, Tessa is sitting at the table at dinner. "Great cooking, dad." She grinned.
"Are you just saying that 'cause I just ordered pizza." Max laughed.
"Obviously." Tessa joked, rolling her eyes.
Everly chuckles, shaking her head. "So, Tessa, how was your day?"
"It was good. Mine and Julie's band got a new gig." Tessa smiled excitedly.
"That's great, honey! Maybe we can both go and watch you play." Max suggests with a smile. "Besides, I wanna meet these boys you guys keep talking about."
"Yeah, sure. They're all really great guys. Especially Reggie." Tessa blushed.
"Reggie, huh? Is he the one who plays the bass guitar?" Max raised his eyebrows at his daughter.
"Yep, that's him." Tessa nodded, her face turning more red as she looked down.
Everly smirks, sending her husband a knowing look. "Oh, is someone having a crush?"
Tessa's face grows more red and she smiles shyly. "Yeah, maybe. I really like him."
"Does he like you back?" Everly questioned her.
"Yes, he does." Tessa admitted with a shy smile.
Max smirks. "Ah, young love."
Tessa rolls her eyes playfully. "Shut up, dad." She chuckled and he grinned as they kept eating.
"But seriously, if he ever hurts you I'll have a little chat with him." Max jokes.
Tessa chuckles, shaking her head.
After they finished eating and talking, Tessa cleaned up her mess and went up to her room. She decided on wearing a light blue floral dress that had a gold chain around the waist and then had a thin belt underneath the gold chain. It was short sleeved and the sleeves went up to her elbows. She wore her usual converse shoes. She also wore a butterfly anklet she usually wore.
She grabs her phone and facetimes Julie. "Hey, girl," She smiles. "You ready?"
"Yeah, I'll meet you there. I gotta sneak out though. My dad's upset I missed the first three classes this morning." Julie sighs. "But I'll see you there." She reassured Tessa.
"Okay, I'll meet you there. Bye." Tessa smiled and waved at her.
Julie smiles. "Bye."
"Okay, let's do this." She took a deep breath and headed downstairs, grabbing her jacket. She also grabbed the case to her electric guitar before she left.

The venue is packed when Tessa and her parents arrive. Tessa is bouncing up and down on the balls of her feet excitedly. She glances at her parents with a nervous smile. "I hope we'll be good." She admits.
"You'll be great, Tess. We'll be watching you guys and cheering you on the entire time." Max reassured her.
Tessa grins and hugs him. "Thank you. Okay, I'll see you guys later." She waves and goes over to where Julie and Flynn stood. "Hey, guys!" She greeted them.
"Hey, Tess!" Flynn and Julie grinned.
"You're ready?" Flynn asked.
"Yeah, I am." Tessa admits. "I'm nervous though."
"Me too." Julie admitted.
The next performer walks on stage and Tessa realized it was Carrie. "Dirty Candy? How did she get on the list?" Julie asked in surprise.
"Her daddy probably made a call." Flynn rolls her eyes. She sighs, but then smiles when she noticed the dahlia pen on Julie's vest. "I like this! Pretty flower."
"Yeah, it's cute." Tessa agreed with a smile.
"Thanks. It's a dahlia. My mom's favorite." Julie replied.
Soon enough Dirty Candy started their performance and Tessa hated that they were so good. The three girls had no idea the three ghost boys had showed up behind them. Tessa and Julie were shocked when they saw Alex suddenly on center stage.
Tessa shares a surprised and confused look with Julie before they look back at the stage. She couldn't help the giggle that left her lips when she saw Alex doing the same moves as the girls. When Everly noticed Alex on stage, she just smiled in amusement and shook her head.
When the song got to the chorus, Alex poofed back to his friends and they look at him in amusement.
"You having fun out there?" Julie asked him.
Alex clears his throat, looking down. It's not my fault. It's my, um...It's my feet."
"Yeah." Julie chuckled, not believing him.
"Put me back in, Coach." Alex grinned and then poofed away.
Flynn glances at Tessa and Julie with confusion since to her it looked like they were talking to air. "Oh, it's the guys." Julie informed her and Flynn nodded in realization.
Alex was back on stage and still killing it. And at the end of the song, he posed off to the side. Tessa couldn't help but giggle at her uncle as everyone cheered for Dirty Candy.
"Making me blush." Alex grins and then poofs back to his friends, who stare at him in amusement again. "Hey, um, I was just...I was just doing that for you guys."
"Yeah. You can stop smiling now." Reggie grinned.
"I'm not gonna lie, that was...Kinda good." Julie admitted.
"Yeah. I forgot why I hate her so much." Flynn confessed.
Carrie then walks over to the three girls with her squad. "Hi, girls. Um, isn't it past your bedtime?"
Tessa glares at her, feeling her blood boil. "Now I remember." Flynn nodded, looking at Tessa and Julie with annoyance.
"Hmm." Carrie looks at Julie. "If you're looking for Nick, he didn't come. "
Julie scoffs, stepping forward. "That's not why I'm here."
"Okay, it looks like we're closing the night out with one more group, 'J.T. and The Fat Ones'." The announcer called out. Tessa grimaced as he got the name wrong and she glared at Carrie and her friends when they snickered.
Alex looks at Luke with annoyance. "Really?"
Luke cringes. "Yeah, man. My handwriting sucks."
Julie chuckles awkwardly and then walks on stage with Tessa. Tessa gets her electric guitar ready as Julie sits at the keyboard. "Hi. It's actually 'J.T. and the Phantoms'." When it was quiet, she got ready to play. "Okay." She glances at Tessa to make sure Tessa was ready. Tessa stood at her microphone stand near where the keyboard was set up, her guitar foot petal in front of her. Flynn had brought the fake hologram projector to the middle of the room to put it on a stool that was there. She turned it on, giving the girls a thumbs up.
Julie started the song with the piano before she started singing. "Hearts on fire. We're no liars, so we say what we wanna say. I'm awakened. No more faking, so we push all our fears away."
Tessa then starts playing her electric guitar at the pre-chorus, being the rhythm guitarist for the band. Not only did she start playing, but she also joins Julie with singing. "Don't know if I'll make it 'cause I'm falling under. Close my eyes, and feel my chest beating like thunder. I wanna fly. Come alive."
For the last part of the pre-chorus only Julie sings it. "Watch me shine."
Then on beat the boys appear on stage, playing their instruments. Luke also harmonizes his voice with Julie during the chorus. "I got a spark in me. Hands up if you can see. And you're a part of me." Julie gets up from the keyboard, grabbing the tambourine and starts playing it. She grabs her microphone with her other hand as she walks over to her microphone stand at the middle of the stage to put her mic on it. Meanwhile, Tessa had put her electric guitar on its stand and sat at the keyboard to play. "Hands up if you're with me. Now 'til eternity. Hands up if you believe. Been so long, and now we're finally free."
Tessa grins as she notices out of the corner of her eye Luke and Reggie had stepped on the platform Alex's drums are on. Her grin turns into a smile when she locked eyes with Reggie and he smiled at her. "We're all bright now. What a sight now. Coming out like we're fireworks." Tessa then harmonizes with Julie for the next part of the second verse. "Marching on proud, turn it up loud. 'Cause now we know what we're worth."
Then the next part is just Julie and Luke. Luke jumps off the platform, going back to his mic to sing with Julie. "We know we can make it we're not falling under. Close my eyes and feel my chest beating like thunder. And I wanna fly. Come alive."
And once again it was just Julie singing the last part. "Watch me shine."
Reggie jumps off the platform on beat, harmonizing his voice with Alex and Tessa's as they do the backup vocals and Julie and Luke were the main singers. "Hands up if you can see. And you're a part of me. Hands up if you're with me. Now 'til eternity. Hands up if you believe. Been so long, and now we're finally free."
Julie starts walking around on stage, her mic in one hand and tambourine in the other. Reggie had even went to the other side of the stage to share a mic with Luke. Tessa stayed at the keyboard, grinning as Julie went over to stand by her side, sharing a smile with her as they locked eyes.
"I got a spark in me. Hands up if you can see. And you're a part of me. Hands up if you're with me. Now 'til eternity. Hands up if you believe." Reggie then goes back to his mic stand, grinning at Tessa when they lock eyes. Tessa grins back at him in response, her face turning red when he winked at her. " Been so long, and now we're finally free."
Julie is back at her mic stand now, holding onto it as she leans over to the side, smiling at Luke. "I got a spark in me."
Luke turns to smile at her, continuing to play his electric guitar. "I got a spark in me." He moved over to stand in front of her, the two of them sharing her mic.
"And you're a part of me." Julie smiled, facing the mic to him when he had to sing.
"And you're a part of me."
Tessa shares a knowing look with Alex and Reggie as they watch this. Reggie was now standing by her while playing his bass. "Now 'till eternity." Julie sang.
"Now 'till eternity." Luke repeated.
"Been so long and now we're finally free." Julie belted out the last word, turning to face the crowd and setting the mic stand straight while Luke went back to his own mic. Reggie moved back over to his own mic as well as he and Alex did the backup vocals. This time Tessa sang the main parts with Luke while Julie sang adlibs.
Once the song ended, the room was erupted with cheers and applause. The group all bowed together and then the boys disappeared with their instruments. Everyone gasped in shock, murmurs filling the air. Tessa and Julie share a nervous smile and look out at the crowd, relieved when everyone cheered louder. Tessa had to admit the look on Carrie's face made this so much better.
"Thank you. We're J.T. and the Phantoms. Tell your friends." Julie smiled. Tessa put her electric guitar back in its case and she and Julie went off the stage over to where Flynn was by the bar. They all squealed and hugged each other.
"You were incredible!" Flynn commented.
"Yeah, we were." Reggie grinned as he and the boys appeared by them. Alex and Luke were sitting on the counter while Reggie was leaned against it. Tessa chuckled and smiled at Reggie.
"Hey, hey!" Luke said, getting Tessa's, Julie's and the boys attention. "Whoever Carrie was trying to impress is coming this way."
"Oh, it's..." Julie's voice trailed off as she turned around, thinking she might know the person but she didn't. Tessa didn't know who she was either.
"She looks all business." Alex noticed and Tessa agreed with him.
"Wait. Who should do the talking?" Reggie asks, furrowing his eyebrows. Tessa, Julie, and the boys send him a look. "Right, the girls should."
"Yeah." Julie agreed.
"You got this." Luke reassured them.
The curly-haired woman walks over to them with a smile. "Hi, I'm Andi Parker, and I would-"
"Julie." Tessa grimaced when she heard Ray speak up. She knew this wasn't good.
They all look over to see Julie's dad, Ray, staring at them and he didn't look happy. "Dad." Julie's eyes widened.
"It's time to go." Ray replied.
