Chapter Three

P.O.V: Logan, First Person
Timeline: Present Day

"I'll meet you at the door," I stated. "I have to lock up."

Patton nodded before teleporting away.

I locked my door with a quick twist of the knob. Not that I really thought anyone would go into my room, but some sides like to play little pranks and I was not going to leave my room wide open for them. Not to mention there are some sides that can't keep their noses out of everybody's business.

Feeling slightly better, I teleported to the door of the Commons where Patton was waiting for me.

And he was frowning.

"Patton? What's wrong? Is everything okay?"

Patton hesitated. "Don't you think... for Roman's party... it's a little... too... quiet?"

Now that Patton had said something, I agreed wholeheartedly. Sure, there were a couple of low voices, but other than that it was... too quiet for Roman.

Patton pushed open the door and I followed close behind, not quite sure where his mind was. Patton was still frowning and he only frowned more when he saw Roman.

Roman, standing frozen in the sea of people, looking like he was either ready to slap someone of spontaneously combust. His face was shocked, shocked and angry, his cheeks bright red and he gripped his sword in anger.

Patton made his way through the crowd towards Roman and I followed closely behind, not wanting to lose him.

"Come on, Roman," Patton said, slipping his hand into Roman's once we'd reached him.

My own stomach twisted in jealousy, even though there was nothing romantic in the gesture.

"Roman? How about you come here for a second?" Patton asked, guiding Roman away from the center of attention.

I stood still as Patton pulled Roman away, and turned to the side closest to me. "What happened?"

The side stumbled through a stuttering, but competent explanation, finishing at the point when Patton and I entered.

By the time he finished, the room's volume had swelled again, now back to a normal volume. I thanked the side and made my way over to Patton, who now stood alone.

"Morality? Are you.." I trailed off as Patton looked up, giving me a tight smile.

"Yeah, yeah. I'm fine," he said. "Just... wow, must have been some fight, huh?"

"Thankfully Roman didn't attack him," I agreed. "What do you think started it?"

Patton shrugged. "I didn't get much out of Roman. Every time he tried, he ended up re-summoning his sword. So - uh - what happened? The short version," Patton added.

"Anxiety and Prince got in some disagreement - over what no one knows - and Prince got defensive, pulled out a sword. Anxiety verbally attacked him and left. Apparently, it was something along the lines of 'Someone doesn't give you this delusion that you're perfect and say that you're their hero and then you decide its okay to pull out a sword?'

Patton whistled appreciately. "Welp, that'd make him pretty upset."

I nodded wordlessly in agreement.

"How' bout we hang out at my place tonight?" Patton suggested. "This party is a little bit of a bust," he finished with another weak smile.

I frowned. "You don't want to go check on Anxiety?"

Patton looked pleasantly surprised at the thought. I'd even think that he looked proud that I had suggested it. "Well, goodness Logic! Of course I do! But... for right now, I think it's better to give him a little space and try to talk about it in the morning."

I nodded, not arguing any further. I knew he really wanted to go see Anxiety. But he'd made his decision and I wasn't going to persuade him otherwise.

Together, we teleported to Patton's room.

"You cleaned up a bit," I noticed, stepping over a pile of papers.

Patton smiled - a real one this time. "Yeah, it's just getting too cluttered in here. What I really need is some sort of organization system.

Oh.

Oh no.

Please don't ask me, please don't ask me, please don't -

"Oh of course! Logan! Could you help? I'm no good at throwing stuff away and you're so good at organizing and stuff."

...

How was I supposed to say no to Patton?

"It's okay if you don't want to," Patton said as I hesitated. "I'm sure that you have better things to do. I just thought it'd be a good way for us to hang out some more. I feel like I hardly see you nowadays."

There's a good reason for that I thought.

Patton gave me another forced smile, which somehow looked sadder than when he frowned.

"No," I said abruptly. What was I thinking?! "I - I'd be happy to be of assistance."

Well. I just blew it.

How was I supposed to work next to him for - for however many days - and someone keep my feelings hidden? How?

"Thank you, Logan!" Patton said, wrapping his arms around me in a grateful hug.

I froze, hoping that Patton couldn't tell how fast my heart was beating. I slowly wrapped my arms around him in return, as lightly as possible.

This must be what torture feels like.

Being in the arms of the person you love the most and not being able to love them the way they deserve.

We would never work. We are totally opposites, it would never work. I... I shouldn't be with anyone, much less Patton. Patton deserves someone who will hold him and surprise him in all the best ways and be romantic and loves him more than Patton loves them and -

And I can't be that person for him.

I can't be that person he dreams of.

I can't be what he deserves.

Aww Logan. :(

You know, when I started this, I thought that I'd really like writing in Patton's Point of View, but I'm really liking Logan's. Huh. That was unexpected, considering Patton's my favorite side. Huh.

-Max :)
