love at first sight (maybe)
Which was why, upon the arrival of Unknowing and Unsuspecting Transfer Student From Busan Park Jimin, the whole school fell into chaos.
(Not really, but there were some drastic events.)
It happened that morning, when Taehyung was late to class. No one passing him in the hallways batted an eye, really, because he showed up late more often than not, due to the many dog walkers on the streets between his house and school and his need to pet every single one of the animals. He was speed-walking to the second floor, still half in his pajamas, when he turned the corner and ran smack dab into Unknowing and Unsuspecting Transfer Student From Busan Park Jimin, promptly falling onto the floor, bringing Park Jimin with him.
"So sorry," Taehyung blustered, words falling out of his mouth at random as he helped the innocent civilian subject to his flailing limbs to their feet. "I was just trying to get to class because I ran into four dogs on the way here and now I'm late, but really I think it was worth it, because one of them was a German shepherd, and those might be one of my favorite dog breeds."
Park Jimin could only stare, because of a couple things: one, this boy was cute, with tanned skin and pouty lips and dark eyes and wow his jawline; two, this boy had a deep voice, which was expatiating something about dogs? Jimin didn't really know, because it sounded like velvet and liquid gold and it was really hard to focus on what the voice was saying; three, this boy was tall and lanky and wearing an off-white sweater ripped at the collarbone and torn blue jeans and a purple zip-up hoodie and yellow high-top Converse with smiley faces drawn all over them and it was all quite adorably mismatched.
And then he smiled, and Park Jimin was done for.
"Oh my God," Jimin whispered to the student who had been assigned to show him around in place of a greeting. "I just ran into the cutest boy."
Yoongi raised his eyebrows, but didn't look at Jimin or show any other sign of interest.
"I didn't get his name, but he was tall and cute and he had a deep voice and cute clothes and he was really cute." Cute cute cute.
"Point him out to me when you get a chance," Yoongi replied, not sounding like he wanted Jimin to point anyone out. But Jimin simply nodded, his face squishing up in an enthusiastic smile.
As it goes, Jimin didn't see the boy in any of his classes. Unfortunately. But when Yoongi dropped him off in biology with a "Good luck, kid, I'll see you after," he met a Kim Namjoon with deep dimples and deeper thoughts. Jimin drew an innocent firework in the margin of his paper, and Namjoon proceeded to talk about how fireworks were a metaphor, how they burst and then they burn, and then they're out, just like that.
"And that's life."
It was safe to say Jimin was not expecting to have an existential crisis in the middle of his very first class at his new school, but here he was, doing exactly that.
I'm never doodling in front of him again.
He wondered if Namjoon knew the boy he had run into earlier. But he didn't want to ask, fearing a "Do any of us really know anyone? Can we even say we know ourselves?" or something of that nature.
Hey, you couldn't blame him for being cautious.
When Yoongi came to pick Jimin up to show him to the lunchroom, Jimin was already questioning if anything was real or if it was all just inside his head.
"You okay?" he asked, wondering what had happened in biology to have the eyesmile replaced with an eyes-blown-wide look of wonder and confusion.
"Do you believe in solipsism, hyung?" Jimin turned to Yoongi, eyes earnest. Yoongi laughed.
"I thought you had biology, Jimin-ah. Not Making The Entire World Seem Meaningless 101."
"I think," Jimin said seriously, "that my brain may have just made you up." He reached out a hand to poke Yoongi's cheek. "It did a good job, hyung."
Yoongi didn't quite know what to say. He stuck his hands deeper into his pockets and tried to ignore the heat radiating off his face and neck, mumbling a feeble "Shut up." It didn't seem to have an effect on Jimin, who continued bouncing along like all was well and merry—Yoongi supposed all was well and merry when your name was Park Jimin and you were the actual living incarnation of sunshine.
They entered the cafeteria, Yoongi beckoning for Jimin to join him and Jeongguk at their table.
"You're the new kid?" Jeongguk asked upon Jimin's arrival. Yoongi raised his eyebrow at him.
"He's your hyung, brat." Jeongguk looked surprised, but had the decency to at least look abashed.
"Yoongi-hyung!" Jimin's high-pitched voice cut through Yoongi's thoughts, making him almost crack his neck looking at the boy. He could hear Jeongguk snickering to his left, but was merciful and decided to ignore it.
"What."
"That's him, the boy I was talking about," Jimin said, pointing to someone who had just walked through the door not ten feet from them. Yoongi's jaw dropped and he stilled, completely stunned as Jimin jumped up and stood in front of the boy and started chatting. Like Taehyung wasn't already taken.
"Oh my God," Jeongguk said, leaning across the table. "Is he flirting? With Taehyung?"
It seemed the entire cafeteria was frozen, as whispers similar to Jeongguk's raced around the room. Because Unknowing and Unsuspecting Transfer Student From Busan Park Jimin was doing the unthinkable.
Yoongi was shocked out of his reverie when Taehyung laughed, low and loud, and Jimin smiled like it was an accomplishment. He and Jeongguk exchanged a look and immediately went over, each taking one of Jimin's arms (no, Yoongi definitely was not taking note of how strong they were) and dragging him away. Yoongi didn't catch the look on Taehyung's nor Jimin's face, and he didn't really care to.
As soon as they had exited the cafeteria, chased by stares and whispers, Jeongguk pushed JImin against the wall and held him there.
"Hyung," he said, not looking away from Jimin, "you should get Seokjin-hyung and Hoseok-hyung."
"On it."
Yoongi headed back in, and the answering stares were enough for him to mouth "We've got in under control," which improved the mood of the room greatly and spin back around. Taehyung had rejoined Namjoon and the others, and looked up as Yoongi approached them.
"Yoongi-hyung!"
"Hi," Yoongi replied shortly. "Can I borrow these two?" he asked, already grasping their shirts and pulling them up, not waiting for an answer.
Namjoon and Taehyung nodded in unison as Seokjin and Hoseok walked away.
They joined Jimin and Jeongguk out in the hallway.
"What the hell, Yoongi-hyung?" came Jimin's voice. "What's going on?"
"Alright kid," Yoongi started. "You're new, and there is one rule around here that you can never break."
"What is it?"
"The one you just broke."
Seokjin prodded Yoongi in the shoulder. "Yah, tell him, he doesn't know what he did wrong."
"Alright," Jeongguk sighed, grabbing Jimin's wrist and going into the doorway of the cafeteria. "You see Taehyung?"
Jimin nodded, cheeks turning red.
"See who's sitting next to him?" Jimin nodded again.
"Yeah, that's my seatmate in biology."
"That's Kim Namjoon," Hoseok announced, not paying Jimin's admission any attention. "He and Taehyung are in love."
"Don't get in between them. They've been best friends since forever, and somehow don't know they're in love with each other. Not yet." And Jimin could kind of see it, the way they were sitting so close, almost no space in between their shoulders, despite having an entire bench to themselves.
He nodded, looking at the ground. "Okay. I'm sorry."
"It's alright, Jiminie," Seokjin reassured him.
"At least now you know!" added Hoseok with a grin. Yoongi, not missing the way Jeongguk gazed at his heart-shaped smile, smirked and filed the information away.
Jimin only nodded, smiling at them effortlessly. "Yeah. Now I know."
