getting over you is harder than i thought

Jeongguk wrung his hands out, fingers cramping and wrists twisted.

He reckoned he'd been playing the same video game—Super Mario World 2, it was his de-stressing game—for six hours now, and his eyes hurt. His head hurt. He stood up to get a glass of water.

To put it simply, he just didn't know what to do.

Usually when he had a crush and wanted to get rid of it, he thought and thought about it, overthinking to the point where he was sick of his mind and sick of the person. He'd go running, trying to escape from all of his feelings. Play video games, watch Miraculous Ladybug, avoid romance books and movies at all costs. There was a whole tried-and-true, step-by-step procedure: Jeon Jeongguk's Guide To Getting Over Crushes. It always worked.

Always. He had even posted it online; it was why he had so many followers on tumblr.

So why was he still so flustered around Hoseok?

It didn't make sense, and he was confused.

And the only time he didn't feel like he was drowning was when there was a heart-shaped smile mirroring his own.

Jeon Jeongguk's Guide To Getting Over Crushes [Part 2]

hey guys! i'm back again. bet u missed me and my great advice huh. anywho. i have another crush, and i tried all the things on my previous list. turns out this is a bit more difficult than the other ones to get rid of :/// so i figured it was time for a continuation of what i'm doing to get over my crush! -jk

Step One: stop listening to love songs. I know taylor swift is amazing (i really do know lol) but when u listen to love songs u think of ur crush (whether it's intentional or not) and this /does not/ help u to get over them

Step Two: go out with yourself. take a train to a different city, and leave your phone at home (or just powered off if ur like me and feel like ur gonna get kidnapped or lost with no way to contact other people) (i know this sounds like some sort of discover-your-inner-worth magazine entry with a picture of like the mountains but it helps)

Step Three: if needed, take one day (just one day, though) to lock yourself up. allow yourself to look at pictures of them, order takeout and watch disney movies. do anything it takes to let your emotions out. at the end of the night, take a long shower and cry. you can remain there for as long as you feel like, but the moment you step out you cannot!!!! cry!!!! again!!! put on a face mask or some moisturizer, play calming music, and go to sleep. (here are my recommendations for face stuff, and here is my rec list for relaxing songs if u need them)

Step Four: do!!! not!!!!!!!! attempt 2 cut them out of ur life!!!!!!!! two of my best friends tried this for reasons kinda similar to getting over a crush. it was super painful for them (and for me)

Step Five: plushies plushies plushies. plushies fix everything. if u guys want ill set up another plushie giveaway for all of y'all in the same boat as me

And that was how Hoseok found him: in his bed, surrounded by plushies, answering all the asks that came his way about the guide and his crush.

"—guk? Jeongguk?"

"Hmm? Yeah?" He looked up from his phone. Hoseok was standing in the doorway, leaning against the frame. "Think of the devil."

Shit. Did I seriously just tell him I was thinking about him?

Hoseok's cheeks tinted pink. Jeongguk looked at him curiously, wondering why. And then he remembered that he was surrounded by like twenty plushies, which Hoseok probably didn't know existed, and now that Jeongguk looked like such a childish idiot—

"Is that a Totoro plushie?"

Jeongguk nodded mutely, still not sure of the intent behind the question.

"Can I hug it? I had one of those when I was a kid!"

Jeongguk found his voice. "Yeah." It cracked, so he cleared his throat and nodded again. "Yeah, sure." He cleared the spot on the bed next to him and patted the comforter. "Come sit."

And Hoseok did, hopping onto Jeongguk's bed and bringing his feet up onto the bed, clutching the Totoro to his chest and resting his chin on top of it. Jeongguk looked at his socks. They were mismatched, like always: one with little chibi dinosaurs and one with tacos and cats.

Hoseok saw him looking and wiggled his toes. "Do you like my socks? I like them, especially the taco cat one. Do you get it? 'Taco cat' is a palindrome! It's the same forwards and backwards! It's my favorite palindrome."

Jeongguk wanted to die. How is he so cute? This should be illegal.

They stayed like that for a while, in relative silence. Hoseok hummed quiety and cuddled Jeongguk's Totoro plushie, and Jeongguk answered his asks. Only the ones requesting advice for or gushing about their own relationships, though, because it would have felt weird to answer questions about his crush when his crush was sitting less than a foot away with his toes tucked under Jeongguk's thigh. ("What?" Hoseok had whined when Jeongguk had raised an eyebrow. "My feet get cold easily!")

"Aren't you bored, Hobi?" Jeongguk broke the silence. Hoseok jumped at the sudden noise. Jeongguk grinned.

He shrugged in response. "I mean, yeah, but being just here with you is enough."

This isn't fucking fair, you can't just say that.

"Do you wanna play some music or something?" Jeongguk gestured to his phone.

"Aren't your phone speakers busted?"

"Yeah, from when I lent Namjoon hyung my phone. But I have earbuds."

He didn't anticipate what a bad idea it was, but in hindsight, he should've expected a situation like this. Because he was Jeon Jeongguk and love just had to have its way.

Hoseok's shoulders were pressed against his, and they were sharing Jeongguk's earbuds, blasting some song that Jeongguk couldn't quite focus on.

He was close enough that if Jeongguk leaned forward just a little bit ...

No. Nope. No. Not today. Not ever. Nope.

Hoseok, blissfully unaware of Jeongguk's spontaneous internal monologue about how you should not fall in love with your best friend and how you should not think about kissing him instead of crushing your feelings down, sighed and leaned his head down on Jeongguk's shoulder, his breathing steady: asleep even though it was barely five P.M.

Jeongguk wanted to die.
