The Random Memories and the Helpless Dean

Riley walked slowly behind the rest of them. They had just gotten off the plane and we're about to head straight to the gym.

She hated that she felt so apart from everyone -- sure, she didn't want to be apart of them -- but still. She has been keeping more to herself since yesterday. She didn't want to talk to anyone, afraid that more lies would be told to her face.

No one made an effort to talk to her after yesterday. Everyone assumed that she needed time to process what Kenny did, obviously that wasn't the case. Riley's head was filled with lies, not just from Kenny, but lies from everyone. She didn't know that what Kenny told her were lies, but they were. She didn't know what to believe anymore, but no one had made an effort to change her mind. No one had asked her if she was okay or if she needed to talk to someone.

She was by herself and in her own thoughts, making her believe that Kenny was right. She was starting to believe that her family was trying to lie to her. Maybe they were trying to fix their own mistakes instead of trying to help her get her memory back.

"You there, Riley?"

Riley looked up and met Leslie's concerned eyes. She sent her a tight smile before nodding.

She wasn't there. Her head was all over the place and she didn't know who to trust. They were all giving her great reasons to not trust them. Each reason more greater than the previous one.

"It's been awhile since I've seen you in a gym with us, Ri baby." Riley immediately looked up, recognizing the voice.

A knock on the door interrupted Lillian for answering.

"Are you guys decent?" Seth asked from the other side of the door. Riley immediately went to open the door. She dragged Seth into the room by the front of his shirt before slamming the door behind him.

"You told me that Renee and Dean were dating." Riley said. She clearly understood everything now. If Renee wasn't actually dating Dean then that meant that Seth and everyone lied to her. Not only that, but she was getting jealous of a relationship that doesn't even exist.

"They are." Seth told her, confused. Lillian sighed.

"Stop lying to her. We all know that Renee and Dean's relationship ends all soon as the cameras go off." Lillian said.

"Well, obviously, Dean can't stand her." Seth muttered.

"If Dean can't stand her then why did he drag her along to stay in my house?" Riley asked. Seth gave her a look.

"Are you kidding me? I thought it was pretty obvious." Seth said.

"What was pretty obvious?" Riley asked. She didn't think it was obvious because she didn't understand why Dean would bring Renee along if he couldn't stand her.

"That he was using Renee to make you jealous." Seth told her, slowly, "He kind of just thought that since you thought they were together then he should pretend to be with her offscreen as well. After he saw that we were getting close, he kind of kicked it up a notch."

"Wait, so you mean to tell me that this asshole decided it would be a great idea to use Renee to make me jealous?" Riley questioned. Seth nodded.

Riley couldn't believe that everyone was letting her believe that Renee and Dean were an actual thing offscreen. It was obvious now, that everyone knew what was going on besides her.

She hated that she let herself get jealous of a fake relationship. She felt stupid for even thinking that Dean was actually in another relationship, when it took him almost two months to finally ask her out. He isn't the relationship type, and she knows that, yet she still believed that he was with Renee.

"Why isn't she here if he's trying to make me jealous?" Riley asked. If Dean wanted her to be jealous then why wasn't Renee by his side right now?

Seth chuckled, "That's pretty simple. Renee was extremely tired of Dean using her, so she decided not to come. Sex can only satisfy a girl for so long."

Riley's nose scrunched up, "I didn't need to know that."

"I don't think anyone did." Lillian muttered in slight disgust.

"You wanted the truth." Seth said with a small shrug, "And now that you do, there's only one way of getting back at him."

"What are you talking about?" Riley asked looking at him. Seth smirked as he looked up at Riley, "I don't like that look. What are you planning?"

"You'll see."

Riley glared at him, slightly, "I swear to god, if tonight ends in a fight, I will hurt you."

Riley's eyes immediately went to Dean. The memory made no sense to her. Why would Dean be making her jealous? And what did Renee have to do with it?

She hardly ever understood what the things that she was remembering had to do with anything.

To her, the memories were all random pieces of a ginormous puzzle. A puzzle that she didn't even know if she wanted to solve. She didn't understand what was so crucial about the six months that she couldn't remember. Why couldn't she just move on without remembering the six months?

She didn't think that remembering random, pointless memories from the past six months would help her move on. She felt better moving on while not remembering the six months. She knew that the past six months have involved a lot of stuff with Kenny and the lies that her family have told her.

The only thing that was keeping her interested, in finding out what happened, was why Dean was suddenly in her life. She knew that Dean was her trainer, but she didn't understand why he was suddenly around all the time. Her training took place from December to the beginning of February. It's been six months since then and she was curious to know why he was still attached to her.

"Did you just remember something?" Leslie asked. Riley nodded.

"What was it?" Dean asked. He obviously knew it was Seth related because she had remembered it when she heard Seth's voice.

"Wasn't anything important." Riley mumbled. She walked towards the ring, letting Seth pull her into a hug. The weird thing is, she didn't go tense when he hugged her. It was as if she felt normal around him.

"Good to have you back, Ri baby." Riley sent him a small smile. She was hoping that he wasn't going to be like everyone else. She was hoping that she would actually get some truth out of him. She wanted someone to be truthful with her. She didn't understand why that was so hard to ask for.

"Let's get started." Dean said, rolling into the ring. Riley grabbed on the ring rope, pulling herself onto the apron.

"Dude, where have you been?" Seth asked as Dean walked into the gym. They had been waiting for Dean to show up for the past hour and he finally decided to show up.

"I was busy." Dean answered, shortly as he stripped off his sweatshirt. Riley watched as he walked into the ring. Riley somewhat felt bad for what she said last night. She felt like she really shouldn't have been mad at him, he was only trying to help.

Lillian and Alison were already in the other ring, training with Roman and Seth. Riley was just sitting down, talking to Kenny.

"Lets go." Dean told Riley. Riley got up with a sigh and climbed into the ring. Everyone knew that Dean was in a very annoyed mood so they didn't say anything about it. Riley is the one that has deal with Dean's pissed off mood.

"What are we doing?" Riley asked, softly. She didn't want him to snap at her but with what she said last night, she wouldn't be surprised.

"Another hold. I know you got the sleeper hold down but you can always use another hold to control your opponent." He told her. He surprised her by not yelling. She had expected him to snap at her but he didn't. He didn't seem as angry as he looked. He was acting like the same Dean that she was talking to yesterday.

"Okay so how does this work?" She asked. Dean turned her around so that her back was to his front.

"Okay so I'm going to grab your arm and twist it behind your back." Riley winced a little at the pressure that he was using," This hold is pretty simple but now that I have you in the hold, I can easily control the rest of your body and I can keep applying pressure."

Dean led her around the ring, trying to show her how he had control over her body. Whenever she would move, he would tighten his hold and pulled her arm further back.

"Stop struggling." Dean muttered," It will hurt more if you struggle."

Riley nodded just as he let go of her arm," Well that didn't hurt at all."

Dean rolled his eyes," It was suppose to hurt, it is a very simple hold but it brings a lot of pain to your opponent's arm. Now try it on me."

Riley moved behind him and grabbed his left arm, pulling it behind his back.

"Oh sorry." Riley muttered, when she remembered that he had a slightly injured shoulder. Dean motioned for her to keep going.

"Did you see how much control you have?" He asked her. She nodded, leaning against the turnbuckle.

"Is there a way to get out of it?" Riley asked," You know, without hurting yourself. I can already see that if you turn the wrong way, you can pop your shoulder out of it's socket."

"That's what I was just going to teach you." He said. She walked over to him and let him apply the hold again.

Kenny was watching them from ringside. He was annoyed about what happened last night but he wasn't going to let it get to him. Riley had just chosen to forgive him and he wasn't going to ruin that.

"Okay so the way you get of the hold is pretty simple, but you can't move to quickly or you'll hurt your shoulder." He told her. Riley nodded, clearly understanding that," Reach in between your legs with the hand that isn't in the hold and grab my leg. When you pull on my leg, it will cause me to fall onto my back and the hold will be released."

Riley thought it was easy enough until she realized the position that it would put them in. Without even giving it another thought, she reached in between her legs and pulled Dean's leg from under him. Dean fell back on his back and his hold was no longer on Riley's arm.

"That was good, really good. Next time try to do it more slowly. If you're in this hold during an actual match your opponent will not go as easy on you as I did. Your shoulder would've popped out of it's socket if you bent down that quickly while trying to get out." Dean told her as he sat up, looking at her.

"Got it." Riley muttered. She glanced over at Kenny and saw the look that he was sending Dean. He was jealous and Riley knew it. He had no reason to be jealous when Dean was just trying to teach Riley something new.

"Do you want to learn to do something?" Dean asked," I've taught you a lot of moves but is there something that you specifically want to learn to do?"

"Can you teach me how to do a move from the top rope? Any move. I just want to know how you know where to land on the person's body." Riley told him. Dean nodded, standing up.

"Get on the top rope." Dean told her. She climbed onto the ropes and sat on the top rope," For now, I just want you to try a simple cross body."

Riley nodded, preparing herself to jump on him.

Riley looked at Dean. She was ready to have him reteach her everything, if it meant to have her memories with him come back.

It was the first memory that actually had some interaction between herself and Dean. She wanted to know what kind of relationship they had while they were training. She wondered if they hated each other's guts or if they were friends.

She just wanted to remember the friendship that she had with her idol.

*favorite gif of all time* look at how cute he is ❤😻

Dean sighed, looking over at Leslie, "How is it possible that she remembers everything but me?"

Leslie rolled her eyes, "Dean, you should be happy that she's remembering something at all. She might not remember anything about you now, but she will."

Dean ran a hand through his hair in frustration, "Did you see the way she acted with Seth?"

She gave him a look, "Okay, don't start with that shit again."

Dean hated that Riley had acted so relaxed and trustworthy with Seth. Every time Dean would tell her the smallest thing, she would look over to Seth as if for clarification. He hated that out of all people she could be closest to right now, it had to be Seth. Seth and Dean were still not at their in strongest point and Dean felt that this would bring them back down to fighting.

"I just hate that she has trust in him." He said, "Out of all people, it had to be him."

She sighed, "Stop being jealous of your best friend." She rolled her eyes, "She obviously needs someone to trust in and it might not be us, but at least she is trusting in someone."

Dean threw himself onto the hotel room couch with a sigh, "I feel so damn helpless. God, I wish there was something I can do to help her remember."

She patted Dean's head, "In this situation, you have no choice, but to feel helpless."

Dean hated being helpless. He hasn't felt like this since Skye died. After that, he learned to take control and to keep control of his life to keep that feeling away. He hated relating this to what happened to Skye, but it felt the same way. He felt as if had lost Riley in that accident. She was alive, but she didn't remember what happened, making it seem like she wasn't actually there.

Helplessness was not a feeling that he liked. He hated not being in control of every situation in his life. That was the reason that he stopped taking his pills. He felt that he could control his depression without having to take some pills. He forced himself to control his depression.

In the past couple of weeks, he went from not taking his pills to taking them, then back to not taking them. He thinks that he can easily control everything without having the pills control it for him. Maybe he did need the pills to help control his life. He needed to not feel helpless.

"You're so use to controlling everything." She muttered, running a hand through his hair. She could sense that he was very upset about it and he needed comfort, "You can't control everything, Dean. You have to let this go and let it play itself out."

"I feel like it's going to get out of hand if I don't have my hold on it." He said, softly. Leslie sighed.

"I know exactly how you feel." She said, "I feel like the same thing I'd going to happen with her memories of Kenny, if I'm not constantly on her about it."

"I just wish we could tell her about all of it." Dean said.

"She'll remember one day."

I know I said I wasn't going to update this weekend, but it happened. Thanking my teachers for no homework 😌😌

I feel like the story is starting to get good.

Now, it was mentioned from the beginning that the story wouldn't really revolve around Riley and her journey -- like the first book did -- but it would revolve around Dean's journey to falling in love and his hardship.

Hope you guys enjoyed the chapter 😌

Love you guys,
