Chapter 1
Girls.
Dating.
Ugh.
Michelangelo tried to push those agitating thoughts out of his mind as his thumbs flew over the controls, eyes glued to the TV screen as his avatar darted across the virtual field.
Renet.
Heartbreak.
His body seized up at the very thought of her name. Mikey sighed, hitting pause on the video game and cradling his head in his hands. Why couldn't he shake off this hurt? He could usually bounce back to his happy demeanor within five minutes of an unfortunate happening, but this... this wasn't something he could just shake off. The feeling of broken-heartedness was quickly spreading over him like a bad case of shellacne.
His breath hitched in his throat, remembering her disappearing through the portal, back to the future, where she'd never return. Sure, she had promised to come back to visit, but that didn't really matter. She was never coming back to him. So, what was the point in holding onto that little inkling of hope anyway?
"I'm just not right for you," She had insisted, her eyes emotionless as she explained to him, "We're from two completely different times, two different worlds. It never would've worked, Mikey. I'm sorry."
Though when she had disappeared into that portal, her whimsical smile was still in place, not portraying the least bit of regret or grief. Meanwhile, Mikey's heart had been splintering, shattering, all traces of his old carefree smile gone for about a week after Renet left. A few days later, he'd begun to grin again, but his baby blues hadn't held the same happiness, the same zest for life he once had always.
He rubbed a hand over his face in exasperation, standing and retrieving his nunchucks from his belt.
"I need some air," He decided to himself, glancing at the dojo, where Raph and Leo were sparring, and the lab where Donnie was tinkering. He shrugged, figuring they wouldn't miss him anyways, and hurried out into the sewer.
