Chapter 13: Before Camp...

Maya grumbled as she stared out the window of the car. "Maya, please, it's just summer camp. If you don't like it at Camp Απάτη, you can go to Art Camp next year." The blonde woman driving the car spoke as she turned down a road.

"You promised that last year when you made me go to Archery Camp, Alea." Maya mumbled.

"Maya, was your father's idea."

"You guys aren't my parents and you know it."

"Maya, please. This is not the time to bring that up."

Maya rolled her eyes as she looked at her sketchbook in her lap, going back to sketching a mermaid on the page. "You do realize that Απάτη means Scam right?"

Alea sighed "What?"

"Απάτη, it means Scam in Greek. Clearly, this camp is a scam."

"Maya, I don't know why you're so against going to this camp."

"Because I wanted to go to Art Camp, not Camp Scam."

"Maya."

"I mean seriously, where'd you even learn about this camp?"

"I got an offer in the mail, they offered to let you go to camp for free."

"One, you and Chris are literally millionaires, two, what is someone's trying to kidnap me?" Maya pointed out, "It's not exactly normal for some camp that's literally named Scam, offers a millionaire's adoptive kid a free stay at camp for an entire summer."

"Maya, it'll be fine."

"It really won't, I'm at risk of being kidnapped because you and Chris are cheepos and don't care if I get grabbed, knocked out and tossed in a river!"

Alea stopped the car harshly. "Now listen here." She angrily spat. "Chris and I care about you!"

"Says the one who forgot they adopted me after a month and thought I was a burgler when they saw me!"

"Maya!"

"It's true and you know it!"

Alea started the car again. "When you get back from camp, you're grounded."

"You're not my mom."

"I. Am. Your. Legal. Guardian." Alea angrily spoke as she drove. "I. Can. Ground. You. If. I. Want."

"Why couldn't I get adopted by someone nicer."

"Because you're a snotty little brat who doesn't stop complaining."

"Oh really?" Maya shouted "Says the one who complains about the slightest inconvenience, or her jewlery not being expensive enough!" Maya angrily spoke. "Oh no, this isn't a real diamond necklace, toss it, it doesn't cost one point two bajillion dollars!" The red head mocked. "What? Is that a canned tuna on my plate? I demand Blufin Tuna! Oh my god! Is that a teeny tiny gnat on my nose! Kill it! It's as annoying as Maya!"

"That's enough!" Alea shouted, taking Maya's sketchbook as she stopped the car.

"What're you-" Maya noticed the large puddle next to the road, and clambered out of the car. "No! Alea No! Please don't!" The red haired teen begged as Alea got out of the car and walked over to the puddle.

The blonde dropped the sketchbook into the muddy water of the puddle. "Get in the car." Maya began to cry, sure she could always get a new sketchbook, but her drawings. Her sketches of dragons, her meme drawings! Destroyed. Some of those dragons and mermaids, she'd worked on for hours, getting the eyes, or hair just right. "Maya, get in the car, you're going to be late.

"No." Maya grumbled as she started walking away from the car. "I'm going home."

"No. You're going to camp." Alea climbed out of the car and grabbed Maya.

"No I'm not!" The red head screamed into Alea's face. "You just destroyed the one thing I care about more than my own life!"

"You melodramatic little brat!"

"Let go! I'm going home!"

Alea dragged Maya back to the car, furious as she buckled the squirming teen into the back seat and locked the door with the lock button on her keychain. She climbed into the front seat, and started to drive. The rest of the drive to the camp would have been silent, if it weren't for Maya crying, which caused Alea to turn the radio up so loud it could be heard outside the car. Once they reached the camp, Maya was dragged out of the car. "Come on you devil's-haired brat!"

"Dumb blonde." Maya grumbled as she was dragged across the parking lot of the camp.

"Satan spawn."

"Satan was the most beautiful angel before he was cast out, so thanks."

"Shut up, you souless little brat."

"I have more of a soul then you."

They arrived in the check-in building. "Hi there." Alea said sweetly to the man at the fold-up table. "I'm Alea Lynn, here to drop off my daughter, Maya."

"I'm not your daughter."

"Shush." Alea spat. "Sorry about that, we had a bit of an agrument on the way here."

"She threw my sketchbook in a puddle and called me satan spawn."

"Shut up."

"Yes well, I'm Icarus, the head councler."

"Did you know that your camp is named the greek word for scam?" Maya asked.

"Shut up you devil child." Alea spat quietly at Maya.

"Yes I did know that, the original owner of the camp named it. If it had been up to me, I would have named it Σπίτι, which means-"

"Home." Maya mumbled.

"I see, how much greek do you know young lady?"

"I could probably hold a short conversation about bread."

"Prove it."

"Αυτό το ψωμί είναι παλιό."

"Δεν είναι."

"Αλλά είναι."

"Smart-alek." Alea grumbled.

"I assume she doesn't speak any?" Icarus questioned.

"Nah, she's not smart enough." Maya laughed

"Excuse me!?" Alea screeched.

"Let us translate our little conversation about old bread." He gestured for Maya to start.

"This bread is old." Maya sa

"It is not."

"But it is."

"And that is what we said." Icarus smiled as he picked up a clipboard. "Now just sign here, and Maya can get her bags so she can go to her cabin." He handed the clipboard to Alea.

"Finally I can get her out of my hair." She spoke quietly.

"Yeah, I'll be out of your fake blonde hair for a whole summer you sketchbook murderer."

"I am a natural blonde!"

"Tell that to the hair-dye box I found in the bathroom last week." Maya grumbled quietly.

Icarus snorted as he tried not to laugh. Alea groaned and slammed the clipboard onto the table. "You're lucky I don't want to deal with her all summer." She glared at Maya. "Get your bags. Now."

"Whatever. Fake blonde." Maya ran away to get her bags before Alea could yell at her.

"Little twit." Alea growled under her breath as she picked at her nails. "What a pain in the-"

"I'm back!" Maya shouted in Alea's face with her teal suitcase in tow. "And you can fight me Alea, I know what you were about to say."

"Whatever, I'll be back in August or whatever."

With that Alea left, leaving Maya at the camp for all the chaos to insue.
