Chapter 1: This Captian Ain't Goin' Down
Dark thunder-clouds swept through the sky above the storming sea. "Captain! The storm is to strong, the ship'll be pulled under!" A teen shouted to the captain of the ship, the terrible Captain Atlas.
"Bah, Kronos' Eye'll hold. She ain't the best ship in the sea 'fer no reason." Atlas replied with a hearty laugh "She'll be fine, and so long as that Crown doesn't have a scratch on it, yah'll be fine too landlubber." He laughed again "Yah hear the lad boys? Little Hercie is scared."
"My name is Hercules."
"Speak up Hercie, no one can hear yah."
Hercules sighed as they shoved their dark blond hair out of their face "Nevermind Captain."
After a few minutes, soft singing was heard through the storm, a beautiful trio of voices. "Who...?" Atlas began before relaxing "How... How relaxin'..." The ship began to steer in the direction of the voices.
"Captain...?" Hercules questioned, as they saw a glittering blue fish's tail flick out of the water "Captain! Sirens!"
"Why is that boy not effected?" A silky voice hissed from the water.
"What does it matter?" Another retorted "The ship is nearly at the rocks, they can't avoid crashing."
"No!" Hercules yelled as they ran to the edge of the ship.
"Wait!" A third voice exclaimed, "That's not a boy's voice."
"Please, leave this ship in peace, I... I'm Haylee Winters, please, leave this ship alone!"
"A girl? Dear, you cursed that ship the moment you stepped aboard." A siren laughed as she pulled herself onto a rock "But, I suppose we should thank you, now we can get our queen's crown back." Her black hair laid against her shoulders, and her piercing blue eyes sent a chill down Haylee's back "What do you think about not dying?" She questioned as she admired her own sparkling blue tail.
"I... I would like to live, but please, spare these people."
"Dear, were that not just teasing you? Treating you like sea-turtle dung?"
Haylee looked at the rest of the crew, and the captain. "O...Okay."
"Iris, love, can you hand me my jewelry box?" The siren said calmly.
"Yeah, sure Aph." A crimson-haired siren with a tail that looked like a Frog-fish's replied as she dove underwater, resurfacing a few moments later with a pearl covered box.
"Thank you, Love," The siren returned her gaze to Haylee. "Do you know who I am dear?"
"N...No?"
"I am Aphrodite, Princess of the Siren-side of Atlantis." She answered, "The two sides of Atlantis have been at war for years, it's a war I am going to inherit if I don't have that crown, and get it back to its pedestal." Aphrodite looked Haylee in the eye "If you give me the crown, I have an amulet that's enchanted to allow humans to breathe underwater. Where we can either take you to the nearest human trading port, or take you to a mage to have you turned into a siren, or a mermaid if you want." Her icy blue eyes gazed at Haylee "Or you can stay here, and die." Haylee looked at the other people on the ship "Tick Tock dear."
"Okay! I don't want to die. I... I'll get it, just... Just give me a second..." Haylee rushed across the deck toward the captain's quarters, where the crown was held. She tried to turn the knob on the door. "Locked, of course."
"Aye, of course it is Boy," Atlas said from behind Haylee "To keep traitors from stealin' me treasure!"
"But the sirens!"
"Bah, those sea-witches are no match for me blade." The ship lurched, and the siren's voices returned. "Their curse has no effect on me boy. I am Atlas! The rightful King of The Sea!"
"W-What?!" Haylee exclaimed as Atlas' legs multiplied and shifted into those of an octopus.
"Aye, soon I shall be Atlas, King of The Seven Seas!" Haylee turned to the door of the cabin and kicked it in. "You piece of sea-turtle dung! Get out of me quarters!"
Haylee grabbed the crown off the desk and slid past Atlas. "Sorry Captain, but just because Atlas held up the sky doesn't mean someone with his name deserves everything." She ran back to the side of the ship.
"TREACHERY! MUTINY!" Atlas yelled "Yah TRAITOR!"
"Guess what else I am, Atlas!" Haylee yelled "I'm a girl." With that she dove into the water, crown in hand.
"Thank you dear." Aphrodite smiled as she placed the amulet around Haylee's neck "What's your choice. Stay human, or join the undersea world?"
"I'll join your world."
"Fantastic! Follow me!" Aphrodite looked to the two other sirens that were with her "Iris, Diana, let's go home."
"Of course you're highness." Diana replied, she had dark brown hair and a tail like an angelfish.
"Iris, Love could you take Haylee to the mage when we get back, and help her choose a tail?"
Iris nodded and swam over to Haylee "I'm Iris, don't be nervous when we get back to the castle, be excited. It's not every day a human gets a chance to join our world!" Iris began to swim off with Diana and Aphrodite. "I do hope you'll join the royal guard, the Princess wants to keep her brother from getting the crown."
"Who's her brother?" Haylee asked as she followed.
"Prince Atlas. He was cursed to have the tail of an octopus. It's horrible really. Royals are born with beautiful and sparkling tails, common folk with those of sea creatures. Sadly, only those with horrible destinies are born with tails like those of Octopi, Squids, Eels, and Pufferfish."
"Why Puffers?"
"They never seem to agree with Sirens or Merfolk."
"What did the Princess mean by a war?"
"You will see once we reach home."
