A Showdown at Midnight

When night came there was only one picture that filled up the sky and that picture was of Tyler Bradford.

Shelby had fled to the snowy terrain, guilt weighing down on her like a tonne of bricks. She couldn't bear to think about what she had just done, she couldn't bear to come to terms of it. So there she was, hiding out in the snowy terrain- believing that the change of scenery could distract her.

Chris was still in the forest, him having woken up rather recently from his blackout. His stomach grumbled, telling him that he needs food but he couldn't go out and hunt yet, especially with the thoughts of what he had done was holding him back. He knows that he'll need to leave the area soon, the forest was no longer being friendly to him after what he had done.

Sythia was moving along in the trees, snatching up random wildlife- digging her fangs into the neck of them so she could drink their blood. She was still keeping an eye out for the remaining tributes. There was only six left counting herself, she's getting close to winning.

While those three were stuck with a more peaceful night, Cyn wasn't. Since she had been pulling up all nighters she was now forced to take a nap during the day- much to her displeasure. And sleep was never a thing she had enjoyed, sleep was what made her vulnerable. Sleep made her confront things that she would rather have buried deep in her subconscious.

She was at home, sounds of chatter reaching her ears- words unable to be listened to, unable to take note of. She looked down, her hands clasped in one another, her shoes polished and clean as the chatter sounds increased- getting louder and louder. But she was still looking down, every single part of her refused to look up.

Pain exploded in her right eye, sight there leaving her as blurs of colour and objects pasted. Series of screams erupted around her, crashes and loud bangs joining them. The happenings were all a blur, nothing making any sense until she looked back at her hands again. This time blood staining them.

She looked up, half-sister dead with a stab wound in her chest. A scythe laid beside an older woman who had various of bruises on her body- her face being a bloody mess as if to indicate that she was punched and beaten to death. Her purple painted nails were chipped and broken, the nail polish which was actually poison gleamed in the light. Slightly away from her was the older brother, his neck bent at an angle, judgmental blue eyes staring at her.

Even now their remarks spoke to Cyn in the dream.

You're father should have took you as well.

You're only ever going to be good with sports.

You want to help people? You're stupid to think that Mum would allow that.

So stupid.

You're so weak.

The picture of her bloodstained hands loomed up before her again, another word joining the picture. Another word that was on her hate list.

Ashley

Her eyes flung open, her face blank as she stared up at the sky- Tyler's picture slowly fading out along with the Capitol anthem. At that the remaining six began to think that they were fine for the night, go to sleep, begin their watch and so forth however they were quite wrong as an renouncement was made.

"Attention, attention. There will be a feast at the cornucopia held this evening. Each and every single one of you has a gift from a family member or friend waiting for you and you all have something you need. Once again, there will be a feast this evening at the cornucopia. Thank you."

Everyone was in silence, everyone thinking about what was just said. Chris knew he couldn't go, he couldn't receive a gift or anything of the like after what had done. Sythia couldn't careless, she wasn't anyone's favourite in her district and also she was doing perfectly fine on her own. Shelby was too distracted by her grief, she couldn't look up at the sky to see her brother's picture and she highly doubt that she would be given anything. Much like Cyn, Destiny has no one to offer her anything, being a reason for why she wasn't going to attend however Cyn would be doing the opposite. Someone will definitely come, it's obvious. If the game makers wouldn't have declared a feast if they knew someone was going to be there. So Cyn grabbed her supplies and hurried off to the cornucopia grinning about what will go down.

And that just leaves Leo.

He needs to know that Splinter was still alive. He needs to know that he was still around and he needs to know what was left for him. Of course the idea of this being a trap had crossed his mind  but Leo couldn't bare the thought of not knowing if Splinter was still breathing or not. He has to find out, he needs to otherwise he'll never be at peace.

"Leo."

He turned around, seeing the green eyes of Destiny. She looked at him, her expression slightly pleading as she continued.

"Please don't go. It's a trap, you know that." She said softly.

Leo shook his head, "Des. I have to go. My father is sick and I need to know if he's still alive or not."

"Leo, they're trying to trick you." She said again, "they're trying to get all of us together so we could kill one another."

"I know." Replied the blue masked terrapin, "but I need to be sure. I need to check."

The wolf-raven sighed, her tail and ears dropping for she knew that she wouldn't be able to persuade Leo.

"Fine. But I'm going to come with you." She stated. "I'm not going to let you go in there alone."

"Des-"

"No Leo. If you go, I go. We're allies after all, right?"

He hesitated slightly before confirming it with a nod, "yeah... Yeah we are."

With that being said the two of them gathered up their supplies and hurried off, running towards the edge of the forest where the cornucopia was in view. Moonlight bounced off the metal, making it appear to be delicate and graceful. And right there sitting in front of the huge metal structure was a long table with bags sitting on it., the numbers of each district was painted on them. One for district four, another for district six, two for district ten and two for district twelve.

Leo stood close to the edge, the leaves of the bushes concealing him and Destiny as he stared at his destination- thinking of when would be a good time to make his dash. He gripped his makeshift bow in his hands, sapphire eyes shining with determination as he looked at the whole area. In search for anyone.

Believing that it was safe, Leo got ready.

"Wish me luck." He whispered.

He raced off into the night, the cool night air playing with his mask tails as he continued onward- his prize only ever getting closer to him. He was nearly there, he was nearly able to see if Splinter was alive or not, nearly there to see what was left for him.

Searing pain distracted him, made him stop in his tracks. He looked over to his right arm, seeing a deep cut placed there which allowed his crimson blood to trail out, dripping onto the emerald green grass with delicacy. He moved his attention away from the wound and over to the girl that stood before him, a katana blade in hand and a lilac colour peeking out in the depths of the blue and green that were her eyes.

"Leonardo." Said Cyn softly, a small smile on her scarred face, "what a pleasure it is." And before the poor turtle could do anything she raced at him, the katana blade cutting through his neck causing his head to topple off and land on the ground.

The boom of the cannon rang out in the night, Cyn straightened up a now serious look on her features as she looked around.

"C'mon wolf girl!" She yelled out. "I know you're nearby! You're gonna come out so we can give everyone a show? Two people from the same district, fighting one another. That's got to keep everyone entertained, don't you think?"

Destiny didn't need anyone to try and lure her out, she was already racing out of her hiding spot- anger making her green eyes to appear more terrifying as she bounded up to her district partner, the need for tearing her apart after what she did to Leo strong in her mind. Her hands were outstretched, her claws out as she tried to tackle the boxer girl. But Cyn just casually stepped aside.

"Tell me." She said, her voice harsh and cold. The sense of playfulness gone. "What is it like to care for someone? What is it like to know that someone cares for you?"

The psychopath ducked again, avoiding another attack.

"Why are you asking me?" Demanded Destiny, trying again to attack about the girl just continued to allude her.

"Well maybe it's because you still manage to gain friends and some sort of love."

"If I was loved then I wouldn't be an orphan!" Snapped the wolf-raven, trying once more to make another attack. She was met with a strong kick though, making her stumble back.

"Better to be an orphan then stuck in a family where no one was loved!" Roared out Cyn, anger in her eyes as well, " my mother used our siblings and I as tools. The robberies that happened, the few and strange deaths that were occurred. Those were done by us, all because our bitch of a mother absolutely adored nice things and money. She made us become people that we're not, she made us become people we don't want to be. She was always so demanding."

Destiny had her hand curled into a fist, sending it out in order to punch Cyn in the face, however the now angry and muscular girl just caught it.- twisting it and throwing Destiny onto the floor.

"So tell me. What is it like, to be in control, to only have to follow your own rules, to go to sleep without thinking about what sort of torture you would be put into tomorrow. Tell me what that's like!" She screeched kicking the wolf-raven in the stomach. But Destiny just simply rolled away, getting onto her feet once more.

"You know my siblings and I went to ask for help, we asked everyone- anyone we could. But was help given to us? Did anyone care enough? No! They bloody didn't! Maybe it was because my mother had them all wrapped around her little finger, maybe it's because they didn't give a shit! I don't know!"

Cyn paused, breathless laughter passing her lips- growing in volume as she thought more.

"Didn't you ever thought of running away?" Demanded Destiny, preparing herself for another attack. Cyn just simply spread out her arms.

"Run away? Run away?! Tell me where would we run too? Where could we have gone without being found out and beaten? Tell me how that could have happened. TELL ME."

The seventeen year old took in a deep breath, eyes looking up a the sky.

"You know... Everyone here is so... So... Selfish." She whispered, "they only ever see what they want to see. They only ever do what they want to do, what benefits them. We only ever care about ourselves because we believe or feel that everyone around us is just simply... Secondary."

Her eyes went down to her forearms, scars crisscrossing her skin, some old some recent. She then whipped around to face Destiny again, her eyes shining.

"Kill me." Cyn commanded, throwing Destiny off. Destiny frowned, evidently confused about what Cyn had just said.

"What?"

"You heard me! Kill me! Kill me, kill me, KILL ME! I hate this place!" She screeched, "everyone here only ever cares about themselves, they only about what happens to them. And I absolutely hate it! Just kill me! I even made it easy for you! I made you feel uncomfortable, I chocked Chris in front of you all and broke Kayla's nose during the training session, I even killed your own ally in front of you. I have done everything in my power- everything, so that you can kill me without a second glance. Everything that you have seen of me was all an act, every single thing so that this can happen. So that I can finally fucking die and be rid of this world."

Cyn lifted up her arms, showing her scars, all of them gleaming in the light of the full moon.

"I didn't get all of these from nothing you know." She whispered, "every single one of these are attempts, attempts that have all failed. So just FUCKING KILL ME ALREADY."

Destiny just looked at the scars, shocked and surprise for what the girl had said. She never actually thought that the Cyn she knew was all just a character, just a mask to hide the real thing. How long has she done it for? Since when as well?

"Are you going to kill me or what?" Snapped the impatient girl.

Destiny took in a deep breath, "first... Who are you really?"

The girl pursed her lips, one of her hatred words passing through them, "Ashley." She said, frustrated by that name.

The wolf girl nodded and slowly she shifted into her large wolf form knowing that she could only take down the muscular girl this way.

Destiny charged.

One more cannon going off,
