Chapter 34: Declaration of War
READER POV
I watched as Philza slowly opened his eyes, he looked at Techno and me. We had joined him when he had taken Tommy, he sighed as if he had done the heaviest work ever. "I'm okay now... I had to deliver his soul to its rightful resting place.", he whispered. We got up and made our way to the castle, some knights ran to ask if we need anything but they soon went quiet as they saw Tommy. "Captain...", whispered one of them. The other had tears running down his cheeks, it was understandable, they had seen Tommy grow up in this kingdom. "Report the death of the Captain... Tell our people that if they wish to mourn in the chapel for our Captain then they can do so after the bell rings...", ordered Techno. The two knights nodded before running towards the plaza. I followed Philza to the castle while Techno headed towards the chapel. "We will lay him next to Wilbur...", whispered Philza. I could only nod since I couldn't find any better place to lay his body than next to our brother's.
When we arrived at the castle, Kristen stood at the doors. She walked over and looked at Tommy, she looked devastated. "My sweet boy... I'll visit you soon...", she whispered and placed a kiss on his forehead. I looked at Tommy, he had color in his cheek and now looked like he was sleeping peacefully. "How are you, sweetheart?", asked Kristen, her warm hands cupped my face. No words came out, there was a storm in my heart. I was angry at the creature who did this but also sad, I wanted to scream and cry. "I'm in pain...", I finally confessed. Kristen immediately hid me, as if I were a child once again, her warmth made my walls break, and with it came a flood of emotions that had been held back. We cried together at the entrance, my hands gripped her dress as I tried to control myself but my mother would reassure me to let it all out and I did so.
The ceremony was short, the chapel was now slowly filling with people of our kingdom, each offering their condolences before placing flowers around Tommy. For Wilbur's resting, we had held it in the chapel that was located inside the ocean monument but since Tommy always loved being with our people, we all had decided that they had a right to say their goodbye. It was a temporary goodbye since now there was more reason for a resurrection. "Our people will want to avenge Tommy... This will start a major war...", sighed Techno. I nodded, this was too much and unfortunately we needed to declare war on Triox for Dream's actions. The maids and soldiers that always followed us along with Mark, silently nodded as we said this. I gave them a gentle smile before telling them all to go and rest since it had been a lot to prepare. Mark nodded before he ordered them to follow him back to the castle. They all bowed as they left us all there.
My eyes landed on Sally, who cried softly as she held Tommy's hand. Fundy cried silently by her side as he held her shoulder, it must have been too hard for the child to lose his father and his uncle in the same year. A presence next to me made me look up at my son, he was all bandaged up next to us. Even though we told him to rest, he fought his way out of his room and was escorted by Mark into the chapel. Tubbo was still unconscious but we all feared the rage and guilt he would feel when he woke up. I held my husband's hand before taking my son's hand as well. "We will bring them back but for now, we should prepare for the storm that is coming our way...", I whispered.
The storm arrived two weeks after the ceremony was held, a knight had reported a carriage with the royal crest of the kingdom of Triox was heading for the gates. "Do NOT allow them inside this kingdom.", growled Techno. My hand went to his shoulder before he could stand, he was exhausted with research and his current state would be a sign of victory for Triox. "Stay here while I deal with them, my King.", I smiled. Techno frowned before he let out a soft sigh, he nodded and I followed the knight all the way to our walls. The soldier helped me up the icy stairs before we reached the top, the archers all had their crossbows loaded and looked at me for the order. I looked down to see the God of Day standing there, he looked different but that didn't stop him from lifting his hands as the hostility that my men showed would frighten even the bravest of Gods. "Stand down, everyone.", I said before my hand went up. Bad put his hands down before he pulled out a scroll, he was obviously the messenger for Triox. "State your purpose here.", I said. The God nodded before he opened a scroll in his hand.
"Triox is formally declaring war against Veri. The charges are the kidnapping of King George and the murder of half of the castle squad. These events occurred during the visit of Prince Ran-", Bad stopped as my familiars flew past him, letting out loud cries. They were two beautiful ravens that were once Wilbur's familiars but now they belonged to me. Before Bad could say another word, an arrow flew right past his face, he looked stunned which was the most emotion he had shown me since he stopped in front of the kingdom gates. Unfortunately for him, his words had caused my anger to show, not only had Dream killed my brother but now he was declaring war against us on false charges. The soldiers looked at me with surprise, I couldn't have blamed them, my hands had reached for the crossbow faster than I could think.
ℂ𝕒𝕝𝕞 𝕪𝕠𝕦𝕣𝕤𝕖𝕝𝕗, 𝕊𝕚𝕤𝕥𝕖𝕣...
A gentle voice whispered in my mind that broke the voices that were screaming for blood. It was very faint but I knew it belonged to Wilbur, he could sometimes manifest and speak before going silent for weeks. On some occasions, he would refer to himself as Ghostbur, always showing me and Techno the sweetest side of him. Sadly, no one besides my husband and I could see him, even my parents were amazed but not surprised since they suspected that Wilbur would try his best to communicate with us even when it wasn't allowed. I slowly released a breath I was holding as one of the ravens handed on my shoulder, it 'quorked' softly before offering soft knocking sounds to calm me. My hands lowered the crossbow before I handed it to the soldier that was its original owner, my fist raised and the soldiers all stood to point their crossbows at Bad.
"We accept this proposal... Now leave before I give Triox more reasons to declare war!", I shouted. Bad nodded before handing the scroll to the other raven, he calmly walked back towards his carriage and got in. I watched as they began their journey back to their kingdom and away from mine. The other raven dropped the scroll into my hand before placing itself on my other shoulder. "Thanks, Munin...", I whispered. The bird hummed softly before disappearing into my skin with its partner. My hands carefully opened the scroll before reading it. The knights around me looked worried as my frown became a scowl. "Damn it!", I growled as the paper went up in flames. The knights all began to ask for a healer but I reassured them that I was fine. "Of course they wrote this with Ghast tears...", I sighed as I entered the study. Techno got up and asked what had happened, his eyes glowed with anger as he saw the burns on my hands. "It'll heal with some time...", I whispered.
Before we could say anything, there was a knock on the door. "Please enter...", I said before hiding my hands. Mark walked in while holding a struggling maid, she tried her best to release herself from the butlers grasp. "I found a tiny mole, Your Majesties.", smiled Mark. The maid looked scared as Techno glared at her, to my knowledge, she had worked in the castle before my arrival to Veri. "Please... I have my family who needs me.", cried the maid. Mark and Techno were unfazed by her pleas, she turned to me and began to sob. "Please be merciful, Goddess! I never meant the death of the Captain or the Ambassador!", she cried.
I smiled gently before cupping her face, my burnt hands squeezed her face a bit before I let go. "I see... Please allow my son to listen to your pleas then.", I whispered. She nodded frantically before I called for Ranboo. When he entered he had a solemn expression, he still felt guilt for Tommy's death but slowly began to understand that it wasn't his fault. "Please listen to this maids reason for betraying us and causing the death of your Uncles, my son.", I said, a small smile graced my lips. The maid was shocked at how I worded the situation and I was sure my smile caused more confusion. "Speak then...", said Ranboo. His voice was laced with venom that made the woman before us freeze. She began to stutter the same things she had pleaded with us. Ranboo looked at the woman with disgust before he pulled out the sword he carried. "Lies... All lies...", he growled. Since the incident, my son had begun to develop more of his powers. One of them being able to tell lies and even look into ones memories.
"Mark... Get all the information necessary... You may dispose of her however you see fit...", I sighed. The butler nodded before he dislocated the woman's shoulder, she screamed in agony before falling onto the floor. "Before that... May i look at your hands?", asked the butler. I reluctantly gave him my hands, he took them gently before he chanted something under his breath. My eyes widened as the burns were now on his hands. "I'll be off now, Your Majesties.", grinned the man before he dragged the maid away. Ranboo closed the door and asked what had happened outside. "War has been declared... We need to call for a meeting right away.", frowned Techno.
I sat next to Kristen as Techno began to explain what we had to do next. Sally looked worried but had also joined us along with Fundy. They both agreed to listen and help us come up with a strategy but also voiced that they wished to remain silent most of the time during the meeting. "We will go to war with Triox... George has been locked away in a room according to the moles information. We need to get him out of there... Also we have a weeks time before they begin their march here.", frowned Techno. We began preparations for the people to be taken to the ocean monument for their safety while also discussing who would participate. "Mother and Father... I would prefer that you both remain here in Veri while Techno and I go to face Triox at our border.", I smiled. Philza and Kristen began to protest but Techno agreed with me, there was silence before the doors opened. "I'll be joining you...", said Tubbo. He had scars on his arms and face but he looked good enough to join us. "You can't!", frowned Kristen as she looked at us. Ranboo entered and demanded that he join us as well, we all looked at him before a unison 'no' was heard. "You are the next King... You are strong enough to come fight with us but it's not convenient if you die along with us... Wilbur and Tommy were Gods with great attributes stronger than yours and even they were taken down.", I frowned. My son looked devastated as I said this, it wasn't my intention to hurt his feelings but the truth was the truth. He frowned before he gripped his arm and released a soft sigh. "Okay...", he mumbled.
Techno joined me before we each took one of his hands. "You are our pride and joy... Please stay safe...", whispered Techno as he placed his forehead on Ranboo's hand. I smiled at our son as he looked at his father and then at me. "You shall lead our country to victory if we fail at the border... Philza and Kristen will remain here and guide you...", I whispered and followed my husband's example. My parents remained silent since we had just made an oath, an oath of a God was to be followed and respected by other Gods. "Begin to evacuate our people to the ocean monument... Dont worry about the castle or the kingdom... Everything can be rebuilt but human lives can never be replaced, Ranboo.", said Techno before straightening up and looking at our son. Ranboo nodded before he hugged my husband, Techno was stiff for a minute before he hugged back. When they separated, I was engulfed into a warm embrace, thoughts of the war ceased as I hugged my son.
Tubbo came over and smiled at Ranboo, we gave them a moment and all headed outside. "You know something we don't...", frowned Philza. Techno and I exchanged looks before we sighed and confessed what we had seen in the snow. "Amon... Amon has been released... He is controlling the people we know... He wants to continue his chaos after being trapped for so long...", I frowned. I looked at my father before I explained what Tommy had dreamt during the coma and what I had experienced back when Dream first acted strange. "That poor child... To think Amon chose him to be his vessel...", growled Philza. My mother took hold of his hand before she calmed him. Once Ranboo and Tubbo asked us to come back in, we all began to ponder how we would get George out of Triox while we were at war. The door opened and a soft chuckle made us all look up at the pair of unexpected guests.
"Guess we'll be handling the rescue, Your Majesties..."
