Part 17

Ashwin was back in her living room where he was only a week ago. It looked almost the same as it did years ago. Not much changed except for her awards galore that had exploded in the last few years. He stopped to look closely at the newest addition, Filmfare Best Playback Singer Female.

That night just to be there for her, he had travelled across the globe in the middle of his shoot. Disguised in the crowd as one of her millions of fans and cheering for her as she went up the stage to collect the award from her Idol Shreya Ghoshal was a dream come true for him as well.

Her words from that night were still fresh in his memory. "I dedicate this award to the person who dreamed this for me even before I was a playback singer". When the world assumed that it must have been her parents, he knew exactly whom she meant.

All of it rushed back in a fleeting moment.

He mentally slapped himself at the thought. She never failed to express her feelings for him. It was him who was just too blind to see past her age.

She stood there not able to take her gaze off his thrilled face, which was all aflame with the ardor of love. She revered it with all her heart.

How much she wished for him to be there with her that night?

"Ani: Yaara Sivu thedite iruka? Nanum rombha nerama pakren.

(Who are you searching for? )

How could she tell him that she was missing the person who broke her into a million little pieces? The only one who could put her back together with just a single smile of his.

Sivaangi: Siva anna varen nu sonnaru. Adhan.

(Siva Anna)

Ani: Un first Filmfare. He won't miss it for the world.

(Your first Filmfare)

Though she knew Ani was talking about Siva Anna, there was only one person who filled her thoughts.

Sivaangi: I guess he won't. "

As he scanned across all of the awards, his eyes widened as it fell on something too special. Their award. The Trending pair award.

He turned to look if she was still there, and saw her being completely casual and composed, as she took slow and steady strides towards him.

Sivaangi: Ippo en ivlo surprise?

(Why are you so surprised?)

Why wouldn't he be?

The award was to celebrate them. A souvenir to all the memories they had created in a few months that changed their lives forever. Looking at it every day would be the worst kind of torture after knowing that they could never get back to it.

Ashwin: Idha paakum bodhu lam....

(When you look at this..)

Sivaangi: Happy ah irukum. Evlo awards vandhalum... idhu rombha special.

(I feel happy. Many awards may come, but this is always very special)

Ashwin: Epdi Ma?

(How?)

Sivaangi: Neenga enaku edhuvum kuduthadu illa. Not that I expected anything from you. But unga kaiyaala enaku kedacha ore vishyam idhu dan. Pakra apolam.... I remember all the smiles I shared with you. Happy ah dan irukum. Ungalku apdi irukaadha?

(You haven't given me anything. Not that I expected it. But this is the only thing that you gave me. So I remember all the smiles I shared with you. Don't you feel the same?)

She was genuinely happy every time she saw the award. It reminded her of all the good times.

Ashwin: Enkita irukra card pakra apolam... Nee enkooda illandra vali dan neraya irukum. Oru void feeling. Neraya thaniya irundurken aana nee ilaadha apodan thanimai na enna nu purinjukten.

(I just feel the pain of missing you in my life when I see the card I have. I have been alone in solitude a lot of times but for the first time I felt loneliness when I let you go)

He was fighting the urge to pull her into a tight hug now that they were in their private space. The few inches of space between them felt like the longest distance there could ever be.

Sivaangi: Enaku onnu kekanum.

(I want to ask you something)

Ashwin: Enna vena kekalam nu unaku theriyaadha?

(Dont you know you don't need to ask?)

Sivaangi: Enikaachu ena vandhu paakanum nu thonirka?

(Have you ever wanted to come and meet me after that day?)

Every moment of every single day just like how he breathed is how much he wanted to rush back to her. But how was he going to tell her that?

Ashwin: Unaku enna thonudhu?

(What do you think?)

Sivaangi: Enaku therla.

(I don't)

She really could not guess because he was someone who had extreme self-control over his thoughts and actions. If he had decided to let her go, then that was a done deal. There wasn't going back. That was one reason why she still often questioned herself if all of this was real or one elaborate dream of hers.

He pulled her closer closing the gap between them. Their bodies were barely apart and their breaths were felt on each other. Their closeness heated up the air in an instant.

He placed her soft hands on his chest right above his heart for her to feel his racing heartbeat.

He leaned in closer and whispered "Every single heartbeat", into her ear and while she stood frozen.

She could not trust herself at this juncture. Their locked eyes were having drowning in each other making it impossible for them to be conscious.

Her phone started to buzz and brought them back to reality. It took her a minute to realize what was happening before she could react.

She pulled away from him to answer the call. As expected, it was Ani.

Sivaangi: Sollu Ani... Is everything ok?

(Hi Ani.. )

Ashwin visibly frowned and settled on the couch hearing Ani's name. She smirked at him knowing that he was jealous.

Sivaangi: Veetu vaasal la irukiya? Wait I will come outside.

(Are you outside my home?)

Ashwin hated that. He was not sure why but he did.

Sivaangi: Inga dan irukaaru.

(He is here)

Sivaangi: Seri nee va.

(Ok come in)

That was the end of his patience. His bloodshot eyed would have intimated anyone, other than her of course.

Sivaangi: Ipdi moracha enna panradhu?

(Why are you staring at me?)

Ashwin: Now you know why I feel insecure.

Sivaangi: Why?

Ashwin: It's 2 AM in the morning and he is here to see you.

Sivaangi: Neenga matum varlaam... Ani vara koodadha?

(When you can come to meet me at random times... why should Ani not?)

She herself felt how absurd that sounded, the minute the words were out. She tried to be funny and it came out all wrong.

Ashwin: You know what... I will leave. Nee avan koodaye iru.

(Just be with him)

Now that just ruined everything. He immediately regretted his choice of words. But there wasn't much he could do.

He tried to explain however it was too late.

Sivaangi: Please leave.

Ashwin: Sivaangi ma... I did not mean it that way.

Sivaangi: Leave.

The knock on the door was his cue to leave. Successfully he spoiled all of it in a single moment.

She opened the door and there he was. Ani. Still smiling after one hell of a day.

Ani: Missed you Sivu. Unna paakama poga manasu illa. Adhan.

(I did not want to go home without seeing you)

Sivu: Ulla vaa..

(Come in)

Ani: Thanks Ashwin. Avala safe ah pathuktadhuku. Nalla vela iniku neenga irundeenga.

(Thank you Ashwin for keeping her safe. Glad that you were there)

Ashwin did not know what to say. He was ashamed and too upset with himself.

Ashwin: Thanks lam venam. It's my....

(You don't need to thank me)

He felt her glare on him and refrained from saying anything stupid.

Ashwin: It's my pleasure. Na kelambren.

(I will leave)

Ashwin got ready to leave before the situation became more awkward.

Ani: Sure ah? Maybe coffee? Sivu semmaya coffee poduva.

(Coffee maybe? Sivu makes amazing coffee)

Sivaangi: Illa Ani.. He might have better things to do. Avar kelambatum.

(Let him leave. He may have better things to do)

Ani: Sivu.. It's early morning. Oru Coffee kudika evlo neram agum? Neenga ukarunga Ashwin.

(It's not going to take long. Please stay Ashwin)

Ashwin: Illa paravalla. Some other time.

(It's Ok. Some other time)

Ani: Enakaaga?

(For my sake?)

Thoughts?

Tried to capture how just a small mistake can cause immense damage.
