The Finale! (And Epilogue I guess)
AHHHHH the feeling of finishing a story and being proud of it!
I feel like I got a good, FT ending with humor and ships and seriousness all in one.
This was a nice "mini" project that ended up not being a mini project and it was a good way to warm up with writing again and knock off the rust from not writing at all for so long! =^=
----------------------
Natsu seemed to be in shock at what just happened as Master Makarov stomped over, going back down to his short and not-freaking-burly-giant form as he approached the students.
"What happened? Natsu? I told you to go back inside, you idiot!" Master scolded and pulled the pinkette's ear. Well thank goodness he didn't see that much, otherwise no one would hear the end of it. Well, maybe not as much as if Mira saw that.
Natsu snapped out of his trance. "Hey hey hey! Whatya doing Gramps! I beat the bad guy and Lu- everyone's okay! It's not like they could have gotten me anyway!" he complained.
"That's not the point, you brat! You're supposed to listen to your principal!" The other kids were laughing again at the comedic scolding while Lucy watched, sweatdropping as she did.
The sirens that had been background noise, and the bright blue-and-red lights started blinding everyone.
"Oh, drat..." Makarov sighed and let the teen fire dragonslayer go. Natsu covered his ear in pain as everyone watched the police jump out of their car and rushing to meet the group.
"Put your hands up!"
"Wait what?!" The two mage students cried in surprise.
"Hey, we're from the school you idiots! I'm the principal! These are my students, release them!" Makarov demanded, and the police squinted and examined the scared kids they were currently starting to handcuff.
"Oh, sorry! It's so dark over here I can't see anything." one of the officers said aloud and let the boy go. Makarov sighed and started gathering his students.
As everything started slowing down and the adrenaline wore off, Natsu and Lucy both realized they were the only ones left beside the street lamp.
"Hey Luce...?" Natsu breathed, catching Lucy off guard slightly.
"Yeah?"
The pinkette sighed. "Sorry... for what I said earl-"
"Natsu, don't worry about it! I'd already forgotten about it." Forgive and forget. One of the things I love about this boy. It's so easy to move on and only think about the good times.
Natsu seemed to be thrown off. "Y-you're serious? No scary Luce about to come tell me off with a Lucy Kick?" the blonde giggled at his surprise.
"Nope!" Lucy breathed, strangely enjoying their little moment of peace within this chaotic night. "Thanks and coming and looking for me, Natsu."
Natsu didn't meet her eyes, but that didn't matter. "Of course. What kind of a friend would I be if I didn't?"
"One that listens to our elders." Lucy teased.
"Me? Listen to Gramps! You're crazy Luce!"
About me as I am about you, baka. Another peaceful pause enveloped them before Master's voice came over the school intercom.
"Attention students! Things may have gotten out of control tonight, but the threat has been handled and we can continue our senior prom dance! Although technically we should postpone it, with the last few weeks of school right around the corner it seems there is no other convenient date to hold this event. So everyone, please try and help out with cleaning up the cafeteria, and we can continue this party where we left off!" A low cheer was heard from the school building as students slowly trickled back into the cafeteria and the lights in the main hallway were revealed, and the lights in the cafeteria were turned off and colors started flashing in the windows once again.
"Well that was chaotic."
"We should head back." Natsu held his hand out to the blonde, and both immediately realized the relationship dilemma they were in.
Wait, I just KISSED NATSU! Oh god oh god, I'm screwed! Lucy panicked as Natsu's grip tightened around her hand, and didn't talk the rest of the way back to their school building.
What? What? Oh god oh god, Lucy just- WHAT. Natsu's brain stopped functioning properly (although when was it ever) when he remembered what happened right before Makarov showed up.
This doesn't make sense. She can't like me! Even though we're best friends and apparently I've been head over heels for her forever but this can't ACTUALLY be happening! It's too cliche! This is real life, not a fairy tale! The coincidence of the thought sunk in, and Natsu laughed inwardly. Huh. You know, maybe it can? I mean, this is Fairy Tail High School. It may not be spelled the same, but heck, too many new students mistake it at first. Maybe the irony has finally affected the people here? Of course this is Natsu Dragneel we are thinking about, who is currently imagining irony and coincidences as nouns and not making any real sense.
The awkward couple made it back to the school building just as the loud rave music started up again and Gajeel's rough voice was heard in the microphone, as well as Levy shrieking when she noticed what her date was doing.
"Gajeel Redfox get off the stage! This is NOT karaoke!"
"Aw, but can't I sing a song for my wonderful date?"
"GAJEEL NO PLEASE GET DOWN FROM THERE!"
Natsu and Lucy winced as a loud microphone screech was heard and apparently Gajeel stepped down from the spotlight at Levy's request. Haha, nice try Gaj. Sing her a song somewhere you CAN'T bust everyone else's eardrums? Natsu's ears were ringing from super-dragonslayer-sensitivity plus mic-screech. The real music started at a deafening volume again, and though it was adjusted it was still extremely loud.
"Maaybe we should go somewhere else...?"
"...I'm guessing you want to talk?"
"Yeah." Natsu confirmed in his serious voice.
Lucy tensed, making Natsu cringe in his mind.
I really need to stop scaring people with just my voice. Apparently when I have emotion I end up being a terror bringer? I really don't mean to be. "Wanna go to the roof?" Lucy's wonderful brown eyes focused back at Natsu's. She shrugged and nodded. The dragonslayer held his hand out to the celestial mage, who accepted the offer and allowed her partner to this crazy event to lead her up the stairs to their school rooftop.
In front of the school there was still the flashing lights of the police were still investigating and arresting, and watching the school like they probably should have been in the first place. But on the back side of the school it was quiet, and the quiet stars of the night were undisturbed minus a few city lights far in the distance. Off to the side was Erza and Jellal, who noticed the newcomers and quietly shuffled to one corner for privacy.
Lucy and Natsu leaned on the barrier railing together, neither one sure what to say anymore. Lucy had her worries about her actions piling in her head, while Natsu's was filling with questions and suspicions and straight up thoughts that he normally would have decided were too much to bother with.
"Natsu...?"
"Luce," Natsu replied, glancing with a bright smile at his blonde date. She had her hair shadowing her eyes.
"...Are you upset with me? I didn't mean-" her voice had quieted to a whisper as Natsu's mind blanked from seeing her upset and grabbed her shoulders.
"Luce. I'm not mad. I just... I guess I just want to know why. I mean, we're friends, best friends! But..." his mind was NOT good at romance. How do I say that I want to know if you feel the same for me as I feel for you? God, I sound like one of Levy's romance stories. I guess those characters have a right to be super nervous when I always thought it was stupid.
The blonde didn't meet her friend's gaze.
"But you don't want anything more than that." she finished for him.
Crap. I guess leaving the sentence hanging gave the wrong impression?! I don't know what I'm doing at all! CRAP.
At this point Natsu's brain was having a disconnect and going on autopilot to save his friendship.
"No." A tear slid down the blonde's face. "I wish we could be something more?" his voice rose awkwardly high, and so did his friend's head (although only to meet her friend's eyes).
Lucy's eyes were wide and shining with tears, and the pinkette flinched inwardly when he realized it was him making her cry. Natsu knew what would probably fix everything that was falling through his fingers at the moment, but strangely he was scared to do it. Stupid cheesy book characters. I'm Natsu Dragneel! The Great Salamander! Just do it already brain.
He leaned forward and smashed his lips into her's, in his mind it feeling strange and he was about to back out-
But then his Luce started kissing him back. Oh god oh god oh god she's- HWHAT- Luce really does like me back...? She wrapped her arms around his neck as he was in a daze and placed his hands on her waist and pulled her closer. Natsu swore sparks seemed to fly, and everything in that moment except for them seemed to disappear. This is what this feels like...? I don't ever want it to end!
Then the pair remembered they were human and needed air and pulled apart, taking in a sigh as the confusion was wiped in an instant from their expression.
"Luce, I- I really-"
"I love you too, Natsu!" Lucy cut him off, throwing her arms around him again.
Natsu smiled, considering the new possibility in his life. Yeah, that sounds about right.
"I love you too, Luce."
A slow dance started, and because technically there were about on top of the cafeteria the couples were able to hear the music quite decently.
"May I have this dance, Luce?" Natsu asked, holding his hand out to his date. The blonde giggled.
"Glad I taught you to dance that one time, eh?"
"I guess..." they laughed as she took his hand and started the calming steps of the formal dance, Jellal doing the same with Erza nearly. The couple seemed to forget everything except for this moment, the dramatic week and crazy shippers and intense fights all gone in an instant as the pinkette and the blonde got lost in each other's eyes and thoughts.
This is nice. Maybe all that panic was for nothing after all.The tune drifted up through the still-smashed windows and started fading out after a few minutes, signaling the end of the song. Guess we'll just go back down and pretend nothing different happened, huh? I mean, shippers! We'll never get privacy if they find out!
Lucy randomly tripped over their feet and nearly fell, and Natsu scrambled to catch her. Suddenly they were in a dip position, and Lucy leaned up and pressed her lips to the Dragneel's again.
"You fell right into that one, firehead." she commented once the initial surprise and kiss were up. Natsu chuckled awkwardly and set her on her own two feet again.
"And you intentionally made that pun, hm?"
She paused. "No...?"
"Exactly."
A cheer was heard from the cafeteria, and the two couples that had come up to the roof glanced at each other. Erza was smirking while Jellal had a pink-tinted face (although that was still hard to see in the dark) and was smiling as well. Erza sent the Nalu couple a thumbs-up, making them both blush and duck away. Crap, Erza saw that! Then they started getting suspicious when there was a very loud "AWEEEE!" from the room below.
"Heheh, I should really get going. Everyone down here says thanks for the show and-"
"EEEEEEEE LU-CHAN I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT JUST HAPPENED!"
"Aw, why can't Grey-sama kiss Juvia like that?"
"Wow Firebreath I didn't know you had the guts."
"NALU IS CANON!"
"Someone get the champagne please?"
"Who needs champagne when you can have some good ol' booze?"
"Hey, no alcohol on campus! Although congratulations to you brats."
"CAN YOU PLEASE STOP YOU'RE CRUSHING ME!"
Erza and Jellal were doubled over laughing at the telepathic argument that they were listening in on (and also helping to broadcast) thanks to Warren.
Lucy and Natsu had horrifyingly shocked expressions as they looked to each other.
"Can I go kill them?" Natsu questioned eagerly.
Lucy nodded. "Yep, and I'm tagging along for this one!"
Suddenly not feeling an ounce of the nervousness the fire dragonslayer had felt before, he swept Lucy up, gave her a quick kiss, and then pulled her along to go get some payback with her laughing and smiling as everything had before.
"This is why I loved Fairy Tail. So much can happen between us but in the end, we all just laughed it off and have a good time. But of course, this is just a guildI'm talking about. I love this pink-"
"SALMON,"
"Salmon-haired idiot standing next to me at our graduation more than anything. Is that better, Natsu?"
"Much appreciated."
The blonde woman giggled at her husband's conviction that his hair was not pink. After high school they had stuck together and become an official couple and gone to college together (Something they had planned since junior year) and even had a wonderful salmon haired daughter running around their legs as Lucy Dragneel put on the finishing touches to her first novel, based off of their years in high school with their friends they still hung out with every weekend. Life had calmed dramatically since their high-speed days of being kidnapped and being persuaded into asking crushes out and all of that nonsense. But at the same time they still had their craziness, they were graduates from Fairy Tail High School after all. The most well-known school in the school system for their high academic achievements and annoying troublemakers.
"Do fairies really have tails? No one has ever seen a real fairy. It is an eternal question, and hence an eternal adventure! Here at Fairy Tail High we live every day on the edge, as if it could be our last! We push the limits to make the most of our time here! That's what makes this guild, number one!"
The End.
