Page 26 A glimpse of his past

I parked my bicycle in Femke's garage and walked inside her front lawn. I saw that hoodie boy there. I stopped abruptly. What was he doing there? At his ex's?

He got up, "So, someone finally showed up,"
I looked at him and then at Casper, "Yep, he called you,"
I looked at him, "What?" He shook his head, "No, I didn't call her. I just told you to get any of your friends,"
"Yeah, I know what that means mate. I am guys guy"

You're not, Casper.

They decided to go to an open park for a picnic. As we went there on our bicycles, I could see tulips growing around overgrowing pavements. They are everywhere. It felt like nature was a bride. Femke pushed a fence which was entirely covered by creeping buttercups and some and and looked ahead at an old park. The grass had grown quite tall, there were ferns and mosses all around. It had some old, wooden benches and a huge forest of bright, green weeping willows, falling into a canal passing behind the park. On the other side of the canal was another park. It looked like a fairytale.

"It doesn't look like many people come here often, if at all," I spoke to myself and Femke heard me, "I know, that's why I picked it. I hate parks that are full of people,"

"That's agreeable," I nodded, clearly worried about how my skin gets so intolerably itchy when I sit in tall grass. I looked at Casper and he looked down at me. Then, he looked at the hoodie boy, "FEMKE!" Casper yelled.

"Yes?"
"You and I...we should totally check out those willows over there!"
"What? But I feel hungry. Shouldn't we eat something first?"
"We will, in a bit!" He pushed her shoulders and trotted forward like a horse. He looked behind at the hoodie boy, and gave him a thumbs up.

"What a weirdo,"
"He's usually like this," I affirmed it.

He laughed.

"Should we go with them?" I asked. He pushed his hands in his hoodie and looked at me, "We could go alone," He walked ahead of me through the grass. I looked at his hair as he walked, it had a hint of golden when the sun fell on his stupid head.

We finally stood before the canal. Femke and Casper and crossed it and were now in the other park. He looked at an old building at the corner of the canal. He had been looking at for a while so I finally spoke "It looks like a church,"

"It's my old school. They are closed now,"

"Can we go inside?" I asked him.
"You want to?" He looked at him.
"Yes," I smiled, "I want to see the places that you have been to,"
He giggled as a red tinge covered his face, like a blooming rose, "Let's go inside,"
