The Whisperings (ccwinters)
Cold and wet, I tried to make my way home. The howling of the wind told me one thing: he was coming. The rain splattered my face, making it hard to see. I knew I had to find shelter, and fast.
They called me crazy.
In the distance, I spotted an old, abandoned house. Picking up my pace, I pushed my way through the rain and wind towards shelter.
They all did.
Finally, I made it to the porch, pushed open the door, and bolted inside. I locked it behind me, but I knew it wouldn't do much good.
Ever since the experiment went wrong and killed that man, they said I was insane.
It was pitch black in the house. I groped for a light switch. Upon not finding one, I hesitantly pulled out my cell phone. With shaking hands, I pressed the flashlight button. The room illuminated. Nervously, I held it out. I tried not to use it that often. If I did, he'd be able to find me. He can do things like that.
But his ghost is haunting me, I'm sure of it.
I didn't take time to examine my surroundings. I hurried towards the steps leading down into the basement.
The whispers that no one else hears are proof.
There was a door at the bottom, and I shut it hastily. I pulled the string attached to a light, and the bulb flickered to life. The place was bare, but it would do well for a hiding place.
I've tried reasoning with him, but he just laughs that maniacal laugh and leaves my thoughts.
I sat down on the cold stone floor and wrapped my arms around my knees. I felt a strange sort of safety. I'd outran him, finally, and now I'd managed to get a moment of peace. Everything was going well.
I know he's plotting to kill me, I just don't know when.
The door suddenly creaked slightly open. I jumped up from the floor as it slammed shut again. The lights flickered, then went out.
Then I heard his whisper.
"It's me, Jasper."
