Jenny's Roadtrip
"Mom, are we there yet?"
"No Jenny. We've still got an hour to go."
"But you said that an hour ago!"
"Well, we got stuck in traffic. And if we get stuck again, it'll be another hour."
"But I want to be there now!"
"Well Jenny, you have to be patient. Just look out the window, it'll make the time fly."
"But nothing's going on outside."
"Well, use your imagination."
"Fine."
Jenny sat in silence for a second, glaring out her window. Then her expression softened, and she shouted, "Mommy! Mommy! There's a rainbow outside!"
"Mmhmm."
"And there's a flock of birds! And a fairy princess!"
"Yeah? And what else?"
"And there's a princess with her knight in shining armor!"
"Really?"
"And Mommy, it- it's you and Daddy!"
"What?"
"Look outside Mommy! Looky look!"
I looked outside the window, and sure enough I saw myself and my husband riding a white stallion, chasing a rainbow and being tailed by a fairy.
As I looked back ahead at the road, I heard a loud beeping suddenly. Looking at the dashboard to see if my flat tire alarm was going off, I was ripped from my dream and back into reality.
I rolled out of bed and walked into the bathroom to wash my hair. Looking into the mirror, I saw a contented smile on my face.
I rubbed my swollen belly and whispered, "I love you Jenny, and I can't wait to see you in person."
