Songfic: BOYFREN
You know I'm grade A
Ya boyfriend wanna B me
Maven sips his wine, licking the red remainder off of his lips as he eyes you out of the corner of his eye. You play with your food on the white porcelain plate it lays dead on. He watches your eyes as they sit in one place. The space between your ears runs and ticks like an overused machine. Cal notices with a small smile and puts his hand on your back, running his hand up and down.
You give him a small smile, returning to eating. Maven stiffens. He can't help himself. He doesn't understand why it bothers him so much. They shouldn't even be touching at the dinner table, that's probably it.
Maven downs the rest of his drink as Tiberias clears his throat. A small smirk falls on his face. He never got called out at the table. Once again, his eyes turn to you. And you're looking right at him with a kind smile.
His chest flares up. He can feel the blush creeping up his neck and to his cheeks, sticking to him like lonely spider webs. His love for you is like a disease that he holds close to his chest, refusing to let anyone get a taste of it.
Cal leans forward and turns to you, moving in the way of Maven's view. He clenches his fist.
You go outta your way
To make sure you don't C me
Cal looks left and right before sneaking into your room. The door shuts without a peep. Maven switches the security cam, trying to get a glimpse of what you two would even do together. What would it be like to sneak into your room? Would you let him grab you?
He finds his cheeks flushing again. His lips part as he watches you two embrace. How amazing it must be. He growls, turning off the cam. The darkness takes him whole, embracing him in a way you never would be able to. He sits alone. All it is left is the soft hum of the electronic whir.
He puts his fingers to his lips. How was he going to please his mother and hold you tightly at the same time?
You should break up with your boyfriend
Popping his collar, he looks into a hall mirror and tucks the stray strands of black hair behind his ear. After the light stroll throughout the castle, he decided the next move was the knock on your door. His doe-like eyes lit up when he saw your fully dressed form on the other side of the door. And he offered his hand, asking you to take a walk with him. You said yes but asked for a second to do your hair, which he kindly let you have.
And now he can't stop staring at himself, wondering what made Cal so different from him. You interrupt his thoughts by opening the door, your small updo making his heart swell. And you offer him a small smile.
You offer your elbow to him, "Shall we go?"
He gives a small chuckle to your forwardness before wrapping his arm around yours. You both walk at the same speed, starting with the same tempo of your hearts and pounding of your steps. The aura around you two radiates the same colors. A match that couldn't go unnoticed.
He looks down at you, observing the light silver blush that is rather noticeable on your polished skin. Your chin is raised high and you swallow rather aggressively. His heart begins to beat. Suddenly the air begins to change.
You should break up with your boyfriend
You remove your hand from his. The light in Maven's eyes disappear. He could feel his heartbeat in his ears. He wasn't expecting you to grab his shoulders, throwing him against the wall. He lets out a muffled gasp, stiffening under your tight grasp. He stares deeply into your intense gaze, trying to find a grasp of any of the words that were flying through his head.
"I didn't spend my entire life trying to become queen to be destroyed by falling for his little brother!"
Your growl made Maven shake. The booming aggression that was laced in your words made his throat bob.
You stick your elbow to his Adam's apple.
"So, Maven Calore, I suggest you stay away from my plans."
You should break up with your boyfriend
"Yes," he moans from under your grip. He let him go, letting him lean to the side to cough. And you stand still, not knowing how to move. Everything in you wants to move to his support and run your hand through his hair. You even find yourself tipping forward, reaching out your hand. But then he stands tall and you find yourself cowering from under him. He squints his eyes down at you.
"If you so much as lay a finger on me again I will have you executed."
"What? Did I force you to put your princely pants on?"
"(Y/N), a simple no would have worked."
You finally allow yourself to lean forward against his chest. And he doesn't pull away. Nor does he execute you.
"Prince Maven I did not think you stupid enough to think I was saying no."
And get with me
He leans into your touch, fighting the urge to wrap his arms around your body. Throughout this conversation, he has felt every emotion in the book. And now confusion sends him reeling back against the wall, your hands landing onto his chest to hold yourself up.
He looks down at you, "you told me to stay away from you."
You smirk at him.
"Maven Calore, I told you to stay away from my plans. Never would I want you to stay away from me."
He nods rather quickly, trying to look at wise as he can while holding down a bright smile.
I'm bored and I'm outta my mind
He watches you and Cal walk side by side, your hand tight in his. When Maven looked closer it was clear that you were the one gripping onto him. Yet Cal looked content with it.
Maven tilted his head, coming to a sudden realization. Cal does like you. It's not just the arrangement it appeared to be.
A part of that made Maven hesitate. That changes something. It feels different now.
He almost can't return the passionate glance you offer him. He passes you both in the hall with his head down.
Fingers crossed I hope that I'll be fine
Maven puts his thumb in his mind, crossing his legs in his chair. His thoughts feel like tires on asphalt.
"You look distracted." Evangeline offers, placing a small, sugary treat into her mouth. He blinks slowly before brushing the nonexistent dusk off of his coat.
"I'm never distracted."
With a scoff, Evangeline shakes her head and leans back into her chair. "Whoever she is, I don't care. Engagement means nothing to me."
Again, Maven's thumb finds itself in his mouth. He wanted to say all of his problems to her, tell her that though engagement meant nothing to her it meant everything to his brother. He just silences himself.
But it doesn't matter to him. Not when the end was near so soon.
Runnin runnin out of time
"I think (Y/N) would be useful to keep, if we made Evangeline seem in love with Cal it would show her as power-hungry, yes?" Maven pitches to his mother, who swirls a spoon in her cup of tea.
"What do you like so much about (Y/N), the fact that she is worthless to you?"
Maven blinks, opening his mouth to respond before his mom cuts him off.
"It was a rhetorical question, my dear. You should get her out of your head."
The pumping in his head doesn't stop, even when he looks at the clock. It seems time is up for you.
Bet you think your boyfriend's cool cus he's got nice clothes
You look at Cal who sits still in his cell. You got the release of being next to him. He runs his big hands up and down your back, soothing your quiet sobs. The grip you have on your hair tighten once you hear a familiar pattern of footsteps echoes outside.
"It'll be okay, we are strong," Cal whispers into your ears. The wet tears fall into your lap. All you wanted was the rule. You hate the Calore family. You hate everything about them. But you love all of them like your family. You had gotten to know them so much over your stay. You take a deep breath, holding onto Cal's hand. You rub your thumb up and down his knuckles. It'll be okay.
Maven runs his fingers across the bars, his shadow looming over your crying form. Immediately you throw yourself out of Cal's arms and to the metal bars, gripping them until your fingertips turned blue. He stares at your crying form with raised eyebrows.
"Please, please, please Maven! Don't let them do this to me. Please, I'm begging you!"
Your voice cracks and breaks as you refuse to break eye contact. He can see the desperation in your face and hear it in your mewl. The way your pupil's quiver and your eyebrows tremble. Your heart beats loudly in the air, you are so afraid of dying. You are so afraid of wasting all those years in your life on a dream that would never come true.
Wonder who he saw wearing those (me!)
Your knees give way as you start to fall, slipping down the bars.
"Prince Maven please, please..."
A billion ideas cross his mind at once. He can't find himself looking down at you. He stares at his brother who sits with his head in his hands. He grips his messy brown hair. He doesn't look at Maven.
"That's King Maven to you."
You glance up at the cap that floats down the hall at the pace that once made you realize who you really belonged with.
I really think that you should break up with him soon
Pain seeps through your veins like a poison, killing you slowly and making you suffer. Your bawling echos throughout the hall, calling to Maven louder than the bells of death. And you whip your tears off of your cheeks when you hear the guards fiddling with the keys. You scoot back, the door skimming your feet.
"We are here for Tiberias VII."
Your heart skips a beat. You look back to your fiance as he raises to his feet. His broad chest raises and lowers in a slow pattern. He looks eased.
"And what about (Y/N)?"
"We are just here for you."
Cal steps forward, offering himself to them. He doesn't even look at you as he does. His soldier posture sends lightning through your nerves. You reach out to him, grabbing his feet.
"Cal, don't leave me alone in here..."
The sentinels grab onto his arms and his handcuffed wrists, dragging him away. All you can do is hopelessly release your grip on him. The silence weighs over you. And all there is here is darkness to embrace you in a way Cal never did. You remain alone.
You should break up with your boyfriend
And get with me
You pull up your knees to your chest, laying down on the floor. You whip your nose on your sleeve and leave the space with only your soft sniffles. It'll be okay.
It feels like an eternity before the door opens up again. The soft tune of footsteps approaching you awake you from your weeping. A pair of soft hands grab onto your shoulder, rolling you so you lay with your back on the floor. You look up at Maven Calore's desperate blue eyes.
He leans ontop of you, holding you close to him. His hair tickles your chin and his head moves with your breathing. You want to kick and scream and push him away from you. But you can't find yourself doing anything violent to him. All you do is give into temptation and run your fingers through his soft, curly hair.
"I'm sorry." He mutters into your shirt. You're quiet as you whip the remainder of your tears away.
"Can I be queen now?"
He stirs a bit but finds himself loving your bluntness, as always. He finally collected his thoughts into one line of words that floats from his lips.
"Only if you don't interfere with my plans."
He rests up on his elbows and kisses your tear-stained lips.
You should break up with your boyfriend
