Chapter Twenty Seven
“You slept with him?”, Ian stood to his feet, his legs felt weak from repeating her words with his own mouth. His heart pounded hard against his chest, his breathing hastened.
“It was a mistake. We were both drunk and not thinking straight-”
“That's your excuse? That you were drunk and ended into bed with him?”
“It's the truth Ian”, Abigail went on to explain she didn't plan onto anything happening between them that night. He pinched the bridge of his nose and closed his eyes shut and turned away from her. Tears threatened to leave his eyes as a lump grew in his throat. He felt a lot of emotions in that moment but most of all he felt betrayed that the woman his world revolved around went back on her word and jumped into bed with the man she told him not to worry about.
“Ian-”, she tried to reach out for him, but he withdrew from her before turning to face her
“I trusted you, Abbie”, his voice broke and tears streamed down her face. “I trusted you and you broke my trust”, his voice rose as he unleashed the anger he felt burning deep from inside him. “What's worse is that you looked me in the eye and blatantly lied to me about where you were that night”
“It wasn't my intention. I'm sorry”.
“You enjoyed making a fool of me, didn't you? Surely I was never good enough for you because you still chose him”.
“I didn't choose him Ian, I don't know what happened”
“Is this what I get for loving you?”, his words pierced through her like a sharp sword
“No. I'm so sorry”, silence filled the room awkwardly. He still had so much to say but didn't have the energy to say all of it at once. She sat back on the couch with her face in her hands.
“Do you still love him?”, his question caused her bloodshot red eyes to look up at him to watch him shrug, motioning her to answer his question
“Of course not. I love you Ian”.
“Righttt”, he laughed sarcastically as he nodded his head. “And I'm supposed to believe you like I've always done, right?”
“It's not like that”
“What happened to the promises we made to each other Abbie? About loyalty and never breaking each other's hearts? Did you think about that?”, his words jammed through her, and she couldn't even answer him.
“You're fucking unbelievable”, he grabbed his car keys and walked towards the door
“Where are you going? “, she asked as she stood to her feet yet again and followed after him worriedly while wiping tears off her face
“I don't know, as long as its far away from you. I really even bear to look at you right now”, he pulled the door open and stood at the doorway before turning to look at her. The look he had in his eyes, you would swear he wasn't going to come back again. He was looking at her like he wanted to somehow capture this scene before him, of her drenched in tears and looking miserable before him.
“Ian, please”, she pleaded with him, but he just took one glare at her,
“I never thought you out of all people would do this to me”, he said quietly before he shook his head. He walked out slammed the door behind him. She jumped from the loud bang the door made as it closed shut. She was surprised the hinges didn't fall off.
She sunk to the floor as she couldn't even stop the tears from falling on her face. It was all her fault.
It was all over ....because of her
“What were you honestly thinking Abbie?”, Steph asked in disappointment as her friend told her the reason behind Ian's disappearance. There was even a search party for him; Christian, Luther and Ryan were trying their level best to find him, but they were coming up with nothing. It was supposed to be his bachelor party that night, but he was missing in plain sight.
“The last time he pulled a stunt like this was after Bianca's death. When we found him he was busy drinking himself to death”, Christian's words replayed over and over in her mind. After all those years of staying clean, he was going to have a relapse and turn to alcohol yet again, all because of her.
“It's going to be okay”, Stephanie pulled her onto her shoulder. There was no need to make her feel even worse than she already did. She was indeed going through hell, and she had to be there for her during this difficult time.
Voicemail
That's what Austin got each time he tried to call her and explain what happened on the night they spent together. He let out an exasperated sigh before he tossed his phone on the opposite couch and ran his hand through his hair frantically and let out an exasperated scream, causing Mira to descend the stairs.
“Are you okay?”, she wanted to hold him, but he quickly stood to his feet and walked away from her
“I'm fine”
“Is there anything I can do?”
“There's nothing you can do Mira, just please stay out of this and leave me alone”, he deadpanned as he paced around the lounge, with his hands in his hair. Abigail was getting married tomorrow and there was nothing he could do.
Before she could object, the sound of the doorbell interrupted, and she went to open it. Angie quickly walked in with a disapproving look on her face.
“Mother, what are you doing here?”, he asked as he was puzzled on seeing her
“Mira asked me to come, apparently the two of you have something to tell me?”, she answered as she sat comfortably on the couch and shrugged. “Well what is it? I really don't have all day”.
He turned to look at Mira who happily skipped to stand next to him and locked their arms together with a cheerful smile on her face. He then remembered it was probably about her pregnancy. It slipped his mind for a second.
“We wanted to tell you the good news in person”, she said cheerfully before looking at him and Angie rose a brow
“We are preg-”, the sound on someone banging the door interrupted abruptly as the three of them jumped from the impact of the sound of the door being banged. They looked at the direction of the sound that was disturbing the peace. Angie's eyes widened in shock.
“Austin bloody Jenkins. Open this fucking door now!”, a voice called out to him, and he drew a breath. He was waiting for this. He knew it was only a matter of time. Abigail would eventually break and tell him the truth before their wedding. It wasn't like her to keep secrets. That's why he didn't understand why she couldn't tell him why she left him that day.
“Austin!”, the banging continued at the door, Mira clung onto him as if she was trying to shield herself from whoever was at the side of the door
“What's going on?”, she stuttered nervously as fear was evident in her voice. He gently pushed her aside.
“Stay back”, he warned before she held his arm again
“It's not safe”
“I'll be fine”, he reassured before he took a couple of steps towards the door and pulled it open to see Ian fuming in anger across him. His eyes were dark, sweat dripping from his forehead. He was taking slow steady breaths as if he was trying to control the rage that was growing deep inside him by the second. The sight of seeing the other man made it worse.
“Ian, listen I can explain-”, he was cut short by a loud, powerful punch sent across his face and he fell on the ground. Mira screamed in horror when she witnessed her husband groaning in pain from the loud thump and the other man grabbing him by the collar, pulling him up to his feet again.
“You took advantage of her”, Ian punched him on the face again, so hard his nose started bleeding. Within a split second Angie was in between them.
“Stop this madness”, she screamed at the top of her lung as it was the only way of saving her son from being beaten into a pulp because she noticed he was letting himself get beat up, he wasn't even trying to fight back
She noticed as the other man take steady breaths to control his breathing
“You're Angie Jenkins right?”, he pointed out to her, and she gave a short nod as Mira tried to pull Austin from the scene
“You're aware this is all your fault. If you hadn't meddled like you always do this wouldn't have happened”.
“I absolutely have no idea what you're talking about”, she stood confidently to which Ian gave a mocking scoff
“You're should have done what you do best, which is keeping Abigail and Austin apart”; he revealed her deepest, darkest secret, and she was compromised. Austin's eyebrows knitted in confusion as he stared blankly at her.
“What is he talking about mother?”
