Chapter Eight

Saturday came earlier than Abigail anticipated because before she knew it, she had less than two hours to get ready. She couldn't decide what to wear as she sprawled some of the clothes she considered comfortable on the bed.

“Do you think sweatpants are comfortable?”, her friend was helping her choose her outfit for her date

“Very comfortable”, she nodded in response as she put her grey sweatpants and a white tank top aside

“Comfortable enough for a date?”, Stephanie quizzed and gave an uncertain nod

“I don't think it's going to be a problem. He did say I should wear anything I'm comfortable in”.

“Like how he said wear casual clothes and then took you to a five-star restaurant?”, Stephanie pointed out as a matter-of-factly and Abigail realized she had a point

“Yeah. I don't want to feel underdressed again”.

“I'm sure it's going to be different this time”

“I'll just stick to a dark blue jean and a light top then”, she shrugged before putting on her outfit for the night and by 6pm exactly, there was a knock on the door

“Talk about punctual”, Stephanie laughed and Abigail went to open the door for him, a smile broadened on his face from the sight of her

“Hi Abigail”

“Hi”, she smiled, inviting him in and closed the door behind him

“Hey Stephanie”, he walked to stand by the couch, and she greeted back. He was carrying two bouquets of flowers and a stuffed teddy bear.

“These are for you”, he handed Abigail a bouquet and walked over to Stephanie and handed her the other bouquet

“Aww, thank you, Ian”, Stephanie cooed as she accepted the flowers from him

“You're really sweet”, Abigail said as she gave her bouquet to Stephanie

“I'll put these in vases”

“I didn't know what to get Emily”, he laughed nervously. “I hope she really likes it”, he gave Abigail the teddy bear, and she cradled it to her chest, already imagining Emily's face when she sees it.

“She's going to love it, thank you”

“Are you ready to go?”, he asked as he put out his arm for her

“Yes”, she entwined their arms together

“Bye Stephanie”, Ian called out to her in the kitchen, and she quickly peeked at them

“Don't forget, no later than 1am”, she warned again in a motherly tone, humor easily evident in her voice

“Yes ma'am”, Ian saluted as they walked out the door. Abigail tugged on his shirt as they walked out of the building.

“So you're still not going to tell me where we're going-”

“No”, he quickly interrupted before he opened the door for her. “Patience, Ms Haines, patience”

He firstly, took her to a bowling alley. “Really?”, Abigail laughed as he searched for parking space

“Surprised?”, he playfully wiggled his eyebrows at her

“Very”, she said as they got out of the car. When they got inside, they signed up and rented bowling shoes.

“What's your shoe size?”, he turned to ask, and she put up four fingers

“Size four?”, he looked down on her feet, clearly surprised as he watched her nod her head. His lips spread into a grin.

“Baby feet”, he teased, and she nudged him on his arm with her elbow as she giggled

“A size 7 and a 4 please”, he asked the person who was helping them

“I hope you're competitive”, he said smugly as they walked towards the bowling alley.

“Highly”, she replied confidently, and he nodded his head slowly as if he didn't believe what she was saying

“Ladies first”, he bowed as he backed away from her, giving her the space she needed, and she found the right bowling ball and approached the foul lane

She positioned herself, aiming at the marks then swung her arm back and forth before releasing the bowling ball. It knocked all the bowling pins over.

“Strike”, she screamed in excitement as she jumped up and down. He couldn't peel his eyes off her in that moment. He could get used to see her that happy and being the reason behind her smile. There was something about her, he couldn't put his finger on it. Like the first time he laid his eyes on her, to him, it was attraction at first sight.

“That was just pure luck”, he put his hands on his hips. “I'm not bothered”, he said in cockily as he smirked. When it was his turn to bowl, he didn't hold anything back. He made sure he knocked most of the bowling pins, making sure he has higher points than Abigail.

When the score was tallied up. It was clear who had worn the game. Ian fist pumped the air, celebrating his victory.

“Yes, I win”, he danced goofily in front of her, and she rolled her eyes as she folded her arms

“Yes, you're good at this, you've made your point”, she quirked bitterly

She turned to walk away from him, but he grabbed her by the waist and pinned her close to him. Her eyes widened at their sudden physical contact.

“I never took you for a sour loser, Abbie”, he breathed, his voice so gentle, yet so deep at the same time, it instantly sent shivers through her spine. It was the first time he had called her by her nickname and she couldn't help the feeling that she actually loved how it rolled off his tounge.

“I'm not”, their eye met as his eyes dropped to her full lips then to her eyes again. She chewed on the inside of her check nervously, avoiding biting her lip. She felt his grip around her loosen as he took a step back from her.

“Well, I'm sure you can even the score where we're going next. This was only the beginning”, he took her hand in his and pulled her to walk besides him.

“Let me guess...it's also a surprise?”, she quizzed, and he grinned in response. “Maybe”

The smell of popcorn and the sound of excited screams filled the air as she realized he took her to an amusement park next

“You never cease to surprise me Mr Parker”, she giggled as he purchased tickets for them

“So, what do you want to do first?”, he grinned as they braced themselves for an adventure. This was by far his favorite place to simplify have fun, enjoy and lay back a little, ever since he was a little boy.

“Bumper go-karts”, she skipped happily next to him. He took her hand in his as they walked swinging their arms together. She found comfort in him holding her hand and wished he would never let go.

They were chatting before he stopped in his tracks as he noticed the outcome of the direction they were heading in

“No no no”, he turned the opposite direction when the rollercoaster was their next ride. Abigail turned him around.

“Come on”, she pouted her lips. “I've always wanted to be on a rollercoaster”, she pleaded, trying to convince him otherwise. Ian rose his eyes to look at the huge roller coaster structure and gulped down heavily and shook his head.

“I don't want to feel my liver coming up my throat”, he said as he folded his arms

She leaned onto him fluttering her long eyelashes.” Pleassee?"

Ian took one look at her again, and he couldn't say no to such an adorable face

“Fine”, he let out an exaggerated sigh, and she jumped excitedly before kissing his cheek

“Thanks”

It was then it dawned on her what had just happened, as surprise was written all over his face the moment she pressed her lips on his cheek. It was his turn to blush, but didn't show it as he dropped his eyes on the ground, standing on one foot after the other. She smiled nervously at him before they locked eyes again.

“Anything to see that jump”, he scratched the back of his neck and let her pull him towards the rollercoaster queue

It seemed to be the craziest idea he had ever agreed in his life as he felt dizzy and wobbly. He grabbed onto her arm for support.

“I need to sit down”, he breathed as they got off the ride. He couldn't feel his body. He couldn't even walk straight. They sat at the nearest bench they found.

“Are you okay?”, she rubbed his back while suppressing a laugh. The whole rollercoaster experience was just hilarious, instead of screaming when the rollercoaster went up and down the hills, she couldn't stop laughing at Ian who was screaming hysterically next to her. For him, that was by far the scariest experience of his life as he started screaming when the rollercoaster just started moving, just doing that chunk-chunk metal sound. It even got better when he started praying. The faster it went, the louder he got.

“Oh my God, I'm going to die”, he screamed when it when down hill. She laughed so hard her stomach hurt.

“Was I embarrassing?”, he turned to look at her

“No, not really”, she held back a laugh, but she couldn't anymore and burst out into laughter. “You were hilarious”, she couldn't stop laughing. Ian buried his face in hands, he was beyond mortified of his actions.

“Please stop talking”, he blocked his ears so that her he didn't hear her words anymore, and she couldn't help herself as tears started streaming down her face

“Especially when you cried out for your mother”

“What?”, he covered his mouth with his hand. Did he do that?. Impossible

“You're lying”, he was extremely stunned as he watched her wipe off the tears off her face

“I wish I was, but I'm not”. her laughter started to fade as she slowly began catching her breath. Ian was just looking her, finding it to his satisfaction that he was the reason behind her laughter, it bought him happiness and warmed his heart that she was happy in that moment. It felt good to know it was all him.

“I think I just got hungry by hearing this. Let's go get something to eat”, he stood by his feet, and she pursed her lips together as he helped her to her feet.

“Sure thing, Mama's boy”, she teased as she walked besides him

“What?”, he jumped from fake shock dramatically as he placed his hand on his chest. “I'm offended”, he snickered as Abigail laughed again. “I'm telling my mother about this”, he joked, finishing her completely.

They got hot dogs and some soda before finding a place to sit. They chatted and laughed as they munched down on their hot dogs. He stopped eating as he noticed a smear of tomato sauce on the side of her lip.

“Uh, you have a bit of...”, he gestured with his face that she had to wipe something off her face

“What?”, she questioned sweetly as she wiped the side of her lip on the wrong spot, looking completely clueless of what she was doing. He chuckled as he watched her. Why did everything look so cute when she did it?

He used his thumb to wipe the tomato sauce off and licked it off, his eyes never leaving hers for a second. She smiled as she looked away from his intensive gaze.

“Thanks”

“Let's go get some cotton candy”, he said as they finished eating

“Sure”, they got up to their feet and walked to the cotton candy cart. Ian took his out of his phone and tapped on the camera.

“Say cotton candy”, he said as he posed for the picture. Abigail laughed as she posed, holding the candy to her lips.

“Cotton candy”
