Chapter 7 - Clamorous Infiltration
Nightfall came over the town.
Walking down the sidewalk, the criminal made his way through the town. There were still a lot of people awake, he couldn't check the last hallway just yet.
Of course, just because it was daytime didn't mean he was going to risk losing his trail. He made sure to be watching the alleyway from a safe distance. No one had been nearby the alleyway, and everyone seemed to behave normally.
So, because of all this, there was no way the criminal had escaped, right? It was time to find out. Later.
Because right now, he was still at risk of being caught. Despite that he could defend himself, he didn't want to tell the police where he was. So, he made his way downtown, heading towards the edge of the city. After that, he could wander around for a bit, and head to the alleyway.
He walked past the tall building of the famous enterpriser, who had hosted an EXPO a while back. He didn't care, this wasn't his local town anyhow. Besides, the owner was probably some rich, entitled bastard who thought to make some fake, 'revolution'.
The man checked his clock. '8:12', he thought. It was alright. Perhaps he was just being desperate, but he thought he could check already. Hopefully no one would see him, but even if they did he needs to focus on finding him. That man had to still be there, he might have left already, but that didn't mean he wouldn't try to find him.
He arrived at the alleyway. He quickly walked past all the other doors, and head straight for the last one. The man took his gloves off, placing theme gently on the floor.
He leaned against the wall, placing his ear on the door. The sound of a fan blowing wind was the only notable noise. Moving his ear away from the door, he took out a small cartridge box out of his pocket.
Inside it were some lock picks, each one with a different size, width, and different uses. He took a wide, long pick out of the catridge and placed it on the lock on the wooden door. Using the long iron pick, he carefully rotated the lock on the door a couple degrees. He moved the pick a bit, making sure it wouldn't fall if left alone. He left the pick hanging on the door, and checked his cartridge box once more.
This time, he took out a leaner, smaller counterpart to the previous pick. Using it on the door, he applied pressure on the pins inside the lock, making sure all the pins set. Grabbing the previous pick with his right hand, he rotated the smaller pin just a bit more.
The door lock then opened, the man grabbed it, holding it in place as to not make any noise. He was only a couple steps closer. Still holding the door with his hand, he crouched a bit and softly threw the two lock picks into his cartridge box. Now it was time to do what he had come to do.
He opened the door swiftly, stopping it before it hit the concrete wall where it's frame had been placed. In defensive position, the man walked forward, searching the apartment. He had to be here, where else could he have gone. There was nowhere else. Aiming straight at his goal, he forced himself to keep looking.
It was clear someone had lived here. There were couches and chairs, tables and books, washing machines and a bed. Someone was definitely here, it might even be his opponent's hideout.
The man had covered the living room, now making his way toward a corner of the apartment with a mini-fridge and a microwave. With his guard still high, he made his way to the mini fridge. While he was reaching out for the handle, he heard quick footsteps behind him. The man rolled to the right, seeing Matthew, slamming a plate into the area where the intruder had been just a few moments ago.
Matthew, having missed his attack, reached out to a drawer. The crouching intruder swiftly stood up, looking at Matthew for a couple of seconds whilst he took a knife out off the drawer. The intruder would remember him. Matthew sliced forward with his newly acquired knife, almost cutting his foe if he had not moved back.
Before Matthew could launch a second attack, the man aimed his hands towards Matthew, and within that second; blasted him towards the corner of the wall. The loud sound caused by the blast took Matt off guard, and before he could realize, the man in front of him was going to do it again. In an attempt to escape, he lunged to the right; only a couple moments before the sound wave blasted out of the man's hand.
Matthew, now roughly scraped by the floor, crawled behind one of the furniture to hide from his assassin. The man walked calmly towards the furniture, expecting his foe to be hiding there. Quickly turning, the man shot right besides the furniture, before realizing his foe wasn't there. Angered, the man shot the couch with his loud sound wave, moving it backwards and scraping it across the floor.
Somewhere nearby, Jaiden was in her living room, with the TV stopped, and listening for that noise. After a few moments, it occurred again, a loud booming noise near the house. It wasn't quite like a gun or a firework, but rather a shorter version of the flight of a firework, before the 'pop' sound it makes once it explodes.
"Did you hear that" said Jaiden's dad, slowly walking down the stairs.
"What was it?" she asked, "It sounded nearby"
"It sounds like it was, it could be some sort of weapon" he responded, having made his way to the first floor. He continued, whilst checking outside the window "Don't go outside, it might be dangerous".
The sound was heard again. "Alright", she responded unpausing the TV. Her dad made his way towards thee household phone, reached out, and dialed a number. He waved at her to turn down the volume of the TV.
"There are loud noises near my house" said Jaiden's father into the phone. He continued, "No, I checked outside but the streets are empty"
"It sounds like, an airplane landing except, much shorter and quicker."
"It lasts two seconds I'd say"
"I'm not sure"
"5 minutes? Alright"
Jaiden's dad hung up, placing the household phone back in its place.
"Stay inside" he remarked to Jaiden, as he walked back up the stairs. She nodded, and put the tv volume back up.
Elsewhere, the station had received the call. They sent two cars to investigate the disturbance, each car packed with two armed policemen. Roman was in his office, accessing the police's live camera database as he had been told by the chief. He entered the registration ID numbers of the four officers and linked the four cameras to his computer. They were still in their car, more than halfway to the disturbance.
Roman leaned back against his chair, focusing vaguely on each of the officer's cameras. According to the second monitor, they were almost at the call's origin.
"Base, we hear it" an officer remarked as they steadily got closer to the disturbance's location.
Roman leaned forward towards the mic; "Confirm the sound as described"
"Affirmative, sound is as described" confirmed one of the officers.
"Alright proceed and locate the sound's origin" Roman told the quartet of officers.
They stopped their cars, and waited to hear the sound once more.
"There it is again" whispered Officer 02, crouching towards the sound's location. They made their way towards an alleyway, which was thought to be the place of origin.
"04, go to the caller's house, number 1705, to your left" explained Roman. "Affirmative" he replied, separating himself from the trio of other officers.
"The sound seems to be coming from one of these doors" Officer 03 informed Roman. He continued, "Check the status of these doors".
Roman accessed the police's household database from his third monitor. He entered the street number and coordinates and waited for the database's response.
"Status?" asked officer 03, standing in front of a door. "We've located the exact origin of the noise. Sounds like a confrontation is happening, we need confirmation now"
"According to the database" Roman explained, "the door you're standing in front of is inhabited by a minor. The kid is a 12 year old school student and appears to have no guardian. You have permission to invade and deal with the threat." Roman finished his explanation. The police officer nodded and knocked on the door.
"City police, open the door!" he shouted as he crouched besides the door. After a couple moments, officer 02 waved at 03 to go inside.
"Freeze!" he said as he brutally kicked the apartment's door down and entered the building.
The man was standing besides the fridge, remaining still. The officers searched the apartment for any threats.
Officer 01 went to the kitchen, moving rapidly with his gun whilst crouching. Suddenly, before he could notice, he got blasted toward one of the apartments walls, and consequentially letting his gun slip out of his hands.
"Don't move! Raise your hands" the two officers shouted whilst holding the man at gunpoint. Instead of getting the gun from the floor, the man stopped walking. He stood still.
"Raise your hands and bend your knees" officer 03 commanded, firmly grabbing his gun and aiming at arms.
The man nodded, and then slowly raised his hands. Whilst he did this, he kicked the gun towards officer 02, not aiming to hit him and instead, passing it to the police officer. Officer 02 slowly walked backwards towards the gun whilst the man raised his hands steadily. Officer 02 bent over, but much to his swiftness, the man shot Officer 03, blasting him through the glass table in the living room. Officer O2 quickly jumped behind the ripped couch for cover, hiding from the criminal's sight.
Officer 01, who had been slowly getting in position the whole time, jumped on top of the man, blocking his eyesight and causing him to bend his knees. The man placed his hands on the officer, shooting him point-blank. The vibrations ripped through the officer's vest, while also blasting him strongly upwards and causing him to hit the roof.
The man looked back to the other officer he had blasted, only to find out he too, had moved out of the way. Taking a moment to think about the situation, he considered the possible courses of action.
Seeing an opening, Matthew slid from behind the man through the kitchen floor rapidly. The man, quickly taking notice of this however, blasted towards Matthew causing him to speed up noticeably, although at the cost of being hit by the wave. As quickly as possible, Matt ran behind the couch where the officers were located.
The man deemed it a loss of time to continue fiddling with the officers, so instead he decided to flee the scene. Keeping his eye on the couch, he walked past the broken glass table. Heading outside, he walked backwards, keeping his hands in the direction of the couch.
Much to his dismay however, as he turned around he noticed that reinforcements had been called. There were two dozen officers, coupled with a pair of snipers, aiming in his general direction. Two officers quickly ran forward and grabbed his hands, to which the man showed no resistance to. He let the officers handcuff him, and went into the police car.
"I heard something happened yesterday, some guy got captured" William told Roman as they sat outside the station, with the latter munching on his hamburger.
Roman nodded, "He is in a cell right now, his trial is tonight I think." He said before taking another bite out of the hamburger. "The guy somehow managed to overpower three armed officers alone with no weapons"
William, somewhat shocked at the fact, responded;
"What did he do?"
"Someone nearby reported a noise disturbance, he said it sounded like an airplane landing except much smaller; from what I heard. We sent two cars there considering that it was likely to be a weapon. The man was caught infiltrating a kid's apartment."
"Is the kid going to testify?"
"Depends on him, though it's not advisable considering his young age."
William nodded as he stood up, "I'll be taking my leave now" the two shook hands while Will walked away.
Terrence stopped in front of the yellow 'Warning!' tapes blocking off the apartment. He was approached by Matthew.
"I was actually right" Matt said,
"Are you hurt?
"I'm fine, but my theory might have just been proved. That man somehow could shoot something out of his palms. It might be some sort of device, but I have no clue"
"I'm glad you're okay then, what happened exactly?"
"He came in and attacked me, so I hid. The police came, and now I might have to testify in court"
Terrence pondered about it. He'd have to find out after the court took place.
Matt finished, "I'll be elsewhere. See you"
Terrence waved away as Matthew walked down the street.
