Chapter 53

Shepard club was doing well , however there was a shortage of members. The future generation of avengers and former S.H.I.E.L.D agents was not enough to strengthen the army. Shepard also needed veterans and more experienced specialists in various things. He also needed a lot of mechanics , engineers , firearms specs , hackers and mercenaries who would willingly agree to fight against the Empire. If the war is to be won , a very strong team will be needed. A team , which will not be afraid of anything. A team that will rise to the occasion. Such people are hard to find , but Shepard knows where to track down such specimens.

The Citadel is one of the most important concentrations in the galaxy. This ancient station has become not only a capital uniting numerous races, but also a place where decisions are made by the Citadel Council - representatives of each race that has joined an alliance of other races. To join such a council , each race must prove itself. Humanity proved itself by saving the galaxy from the Sovereign - a Reaper who planned to destroy the citadel and open a portal to other Reapers. The Sovereign was destroyed , and with him Saren Arterius-a former SPECTRE of the citadel council-who was the Sovereign's tool to summon the Reapers and manipulate the council. He was the one behind the attack on Eden Prime - the first human colony , which was established at a time when humanity was exploring the galaxy and appropriating the planets they encountered. But, let's put the past behind us and focus on the present.

Matteo arrived at the Citadel by civilian transport. He didn't want to arrive here in a 'Normandy' or another of his fighters (which could be destroyed by Citadel services). Such transport is safer and more discreet. This way Matteo will not be conspicuous like Taylor Swift and the dress , which she wears. Discretion is paramount.

He left the transport ship surrounded by other races. Travel in this part of the galaxy is safer than in the so-called 'Imperial Zone'. The Empire knows nothing about the Citadel - not even the existence of Earth or the solar system. If such knowledge came into the possession of the Empire - humanity would be endangered.

Shepard headed for the elevator. His first target would be at the next elevator in the port area - where people usually wait for ships flying to different systems and planets. The target was at the elevator that allows you to go to the presidium or other districts of the citadel. The target wore silver armor with purple elements. His weapon of choice was a sniper rifle-a weapon he never parted with. The weapon had served him for many years and would continue to do so. Shepard saw his target and went to him. The target looked at him. He smiled and moved toward him. He had a smile on his face.

"Uncle Garrus!" Matteo smiled. As they approached , they hugged. Garrus Vakarian was a close friend of Matteo's father John Shepard. Garrus and John spent many years fighting the Reapers. At some point after Shepard's first death , Garrus started a self-proclaimed fight on Omega - an old mining station , which had become one big cluster of gangs and crime. Vakarian gathered a group and, like his friend - began to fight crime. However, during one such action, Vakarian's team was betrayed by Sidonis - one of the trusted men in the group. Garrus could not forgive himself for this so , he focused more on fighting evil. The rest of the story is long and very famous among the people of Omega and the rest of the galaxy. Vakarian is one of the heroes of the Citadel , just like the rest of the members of John Shepard's team - he defeated the Reapers once and for all. But in this galaxy - and more so in this universe , Vakarian after the war with the Reapers began fighting mercenaries on Nar Shaddaa. He returned to his old habits. He did not create his team , because he learned from the mistake he experienced years ago. He fought like this for ten years , but at some time he gave up fighting for one reason - Nar Shaddaa is saturated with crime. Nar Shaddaa has died - it cannot be saved.

You also see Matty boy" Garrus let him go. Turianin had many years on his neck , but one thing had not changed - his sense of humor. Humor and joy never left him and never intended to. Garrus was happy , alive and had many adventures behind him. He himself in his free time shoots at empty bottles with a sniper rifle. Vakarian despite his years , did not get out of shape.

"How are you doing young Shepard?" He asked pretending to be his grandfather. Matt laughed and looked at him.

"Very well. I'll be honest with you. I'm looking for people to fight the Empire. The great war is about to begin. The Empire is terrorizing many worlds. It is taking away the freedom of many people and n other races. Many worlds are robbed of their natural resources. They have no mercy for anyone. I know that you have many years sa your back , but please. Will you join my team?"

Garrus looked at him. He knew that one day there would be a day that John Shepard's son asked him to fight for a cause. More than once he had rescued John from many situations. He had a very great debt to the Shepards. It was high time , to repay that debt.

"Agreed. We'll meet at the ships. I will gather the people , who are ready to fight for this cause." Vakarian gave his answer. Shepard smiled in spirit. The first person had been recruited. He knew , he could not stop at one person. More people are needed. More soldiers to fight. More dedicated allies to fight.

Garrus walked away from Shepard and went in search of more people to recruit. He entered the elevator and pressed the button responsible for going down. Matteo leaned against the glass and took a breath in , then let the air out. He turned around and saw the presidium - a heavenly-looking place with numerous stores and restaurants. Shepard longed for this view - he liked it when he was younger and knew no other world but the citadel. Today the view bored him - nothing had changed since then.

The elevator stopped. Matteo got out of it and headed through himself. Then he turned to the right. Machines were cleaning up the numerous dirt that was on the ground. Many representatives of the races were talking to each other. The next target was in the park and was sitting on a bench.

Tali'Zorah was a Quarian born in the Wandering Fleet. Like Garrus Vakarian , she fought alongside her father Matteo. Tali was the person who helped convict Saren of treason. She had irrefutable evidence of this. This gave at that time a great advantage in the fight against Saren and his army. Tali was now the most important person in her species. Her fleet had settled on a planet , which had once been taken over by the Geths - droids who had rebelled against their creators. Now after the destruction of the Geths , Rannoch became free and began to rebuild. Many years have passed since then. On Rannoch , the name Shepard means something - it was thanks to John , they managed to regain their home planet of Quarian. Matteo was not on their planet. For the time being , he didn't have time to do it. Maybe someday , after all this war.

Tali was looking through something on her ommni-key. Shepard approached her . He leaned back and looked at her. Tali was clearly hard at work. She clearly didn't have time for a break. Maybe talking to Matteo would interrupt her work. Tali worked the hardest of all - she's on the Quarian council. She is responsible for a ton of things. Matteo decided to sit down next to her.

"Hey Aunt Tali," he said. Tali interrupted her work and looked at him. It had been a very long time since she had seen him. She smiled under her helmet.

"Hey Matteo. It's been a kick of a year huh?" She said cheerfully. Matt smiled gently.

"That's right. I guess I'm not interrupting?" Matt looked at the ommni- key.

"I'm working on another bill. Earlier I was with a senator. How I hate politics," he said.

"You're not the only one," Shepard said. "I can help you get away from it.

"Really? How are you going to help me?" Tali asked.

"I'm gathering people for the war against the Empire. Garrus collects people , which makes my job easier. You still have that flame , which will destroy any enemy?" Matt explained. Tali looked at him. She turned off her omni-key stopping her work. She had not fought for a long time. For a very long time. She couldn't remember how to fight. Instead, she decided to ask herself something else.

"Does the 'Normandy' still fly?"

Matt looked at her. "Yes. It is full of many people , ready to kill many Imperial stormtroopers."

The quarian smiled more. "Then you already have me on your team." After these words, she got up from the bench. " So what? Shall we go?

Matt also got up from the bench. "Sure. It's time to move on to the next phase."
