Chapter 28

It had been two days since the recruitment of Lona Aphra's Doctor Chella. The 'Normandy' traveled the newly-covered hyperspace routes avoiding detection by the Galactic Empire - which, by the way, gave the Alliance an advantage in surprise attacks. The crew was working at full steam - everyone was doing their jobs. Navigators were discovering new hyperspace routes , while creating new routes. They worked on travel to unknown regions. Hackers were engaged in finding various data from the Empire and other orgaznizations and governments - thanks to such people , the Alliance is in possession of data that can be used as a tool to intimidate the enemy. The others were doing their own thing. The work passed smoothly and well without any obstacles.

Matteo was in his room working on his armor. A year ago, he had created a newer version of the N7 armor made of beskar - indestructible Mandalorian steel. Shepard planned to change the flight system in his armor - so he would be able to fly greater distances. In addition, he planned to make the armor system bigger - more data memory , a viewfinder with an X-ray and infrared system , a bullet system in the wrist like the Mandalorians have. Many ideas were in his head , but he could not make them happen. He pounded the table and rubbed his hands in frustration. Why does everything have to be THAT difficult.

"Help?" A voice came out of nowhere. Shepard turned around and saw a woman or more precisely a yellow hologram. She had black hair , blue eyes, a fur coat on and pink heart-shaped glasses. Her body was decorated with a mass of integrated circuits. Matteo had seen such a person somewhere. This woman was familiar to him. The hologram disappeared , to appear in front of Matteo "Boo!"

"God!" Matt shouted falling over onto the couch. The hologram laughed and appeared over the Canadian's face. "Who are you?

"Don't you remember me?" The woman asked and Matteo shrugged his shoulders. She laughed "It's me Rosalia!"

"Rosalia?" Matty got up from the couch "You look different , more I don't know like a Hollywood or other red carpet star. But , how? You were destroyed by the Asari. I saw what was left of you. They said , no chance to fix you.

Rosalia let out a giggle "My creator fixed me. Mac put me back together and gave me new skills and software. I can now not only read coded data , but also move. I can walk! I no longer have to stand still and be transferred from hologram to hologram. When , mac found out that I was destroyed he immediately got to work - he replaced all the old stuff and thanks to the resources of the Alliance gave me new , better , super software and personality - I have more emotions , and you know what I can do? Touch things! I can feel something with my fingertips! Thanks , maker!" The woman explained sitting down on the couch and letting the air out. Matteo smiled - good to see her. Ros looked at him and hugged him back. "Aaa there's nothing like a good old hug!"

"I'm glad , I'm glad to see you. Really," Matteo said hugging back. After a couple of long minutes they let go. Ros looked at him and then at his armor.

"Are you working on that big piece of beskar? I see , you've made a mistake" Rosalia remarked walking over to the armor" You have to take the armor apart first , so that the skeleton remains. Then you connect the armor to the computer , to access the system. The rest is much more difficult and requires more knowledge , so let me take care of it ." She put her hands on the armor. Matteo didn't know what to do.

"What about me?" Matt was surprised. Rosalia turned to him.

"According to my professional analysis you should know the people who are on the ship . I mean people you haven't met before. You need to put everything together , if you want to have the loyalty of your people. " She explained.

"Well , and where should I start?"

"Preferably not here. There's nothing here. Take the elevator , walk around the rooms. You'll definitely talk to someone," Rosalia said. Matteo headed for the exit.

After taking the elevator down, Matteo went to the engine room. He opened the door and saw the powerful engine and hyperdrive of the 'Normandy' Three engineers were working at it : Greg Adams , Kenneth Donnelly , Gabriella Daniels and Diana Allers. Shepard approached them.

"Hello." He greeted. Ken and Gab turned around and saw the commander. They immediately saluted.

"Holy shit , it's Commander Shepard!" Ken said.

"Express yourself Ken. You address your superior," Gab admonished him.

"At ease," Matt said. They both lowered their hands. "It's nice to meet you guys. You used to work on ships like this?"

"Oh yes! I worked on the Normandy -SR-2 , in the days when your father was a commander. It's a pity that he is no longer with us - he was a great hero." Ken answered.

"Ken! Don't make the commander sorry!" Gab admonished him again. Matty gently laughed.

"Relax , I didn't feel sad. I'm happy to meet people who know my father." Then Adams and Allers approached them. Ken decided to introduce them.

"Greg Adams , Diana Allers. Greg is an engineer - he worked on the first Normandy , while Diana is a war correspondent - she reports on everything going on in the galaxy through our Alliance network. We are a good team" Matteo shook their hands. He began to converse with them.

After long hours of conversation, Matteo Shepard left the engine room and went to the hangar - the last place on the 'Normandy'. There were UT-69 'Sony' gunships and Matteo Shepard's armor-colored jedi fighter. In the hangar, in addition to the mechanics, were James Vega and Steven Cortez. Shepard approached them.

"Hello. How are you?" He asked greeting them. Vega and Cortez saluted. After a moment, they lowered their hands.

"Hello Commander" the muscle man introduced himself " James Vega - soldier and ruckman. And this is Steven Cortez - pilot of the gunship."

"Nice to meet you gentlemen. I see , you are ready to fight" Matteo noted. Vega and Stevens smiled.

"Yes sir. We are ready , to shed blood for the Alliance and the beings that inhabit , this galaxy" Stevens pronounced. He was a black-skinned man with short hair and little facial hair. He joined the Alliance , to fly spaceships - it was one of life's dreams. Cortez had a reputation as one of the best just behind Joker as a ship pilot. But , Steve flew gunships , and Moreau flew the big freighter that serves as the base of Commander Shepard's team. Matteo Lorien looked at him.

"I'm glad about that - you guys have the fighting spirit. Admiral Kahlee would say , you are born warriors. I will not disturb you. I'll go now , meet more people on board" Matteo said goodbye to them. Vega and Cortez saluted and returned to their tasks. Matteo entered the elevator and headed upstairs.

Matteo went to the crew quarters - the place , where Shepard's crew members had their rooms. Matt knew almost everyone here - Arno Renault , Dr. Karin Chakwas , Arla Jareni , Damian Reese and Jennifer Shepard ( who was not currently here) Matt went to the canteen and met bossman Rupert Gardner there. Not far from her was eating Dr. Chloe Michel. Matty approached them.

"Hello. How are you?" Matteo greeted them. Rupert approached him - he was an older man with baldness and a fine beard on his face. The sergeant is quite confident and seems to be very happy with his job in the Alliance. He says, then, "I'm damn proud. The Alliance has done a great job." Before joining the ranks of the Alliance, he was an exemplary family father and worked on fixtures using element zero in the border colonies. He was a happy man at the time, but lost everything during the Batarian assault on the colonies. Later, however, he joined the Alliance to try to change everything. He describes his role on the ship as "foreman of everything." Gardner jokes that he does everything on the Normandy even being a plumber. He himself admits that he can no longer fight, but tries to help as best he can.

Gartner crossed his arms looking at his superior.

"Hello Commander. It's nice to come face to face with John Shepard's son," he greeted. Matteo nodded.

"Reciprocally. What is your occupation?" He asked.

"I cook very delicious dishes. I can make anything. Besides, I help others as best I can," Gardner described his function. Matteo smiled 'Master chef'.

"Anything else Commander?" Rupert asked breaking the silence. Matteo awoke.

"No Rupert. That's it. Thank you for talking," he said. He then sat down next to Chloe Michel.

Chloe Michel is a doctor and aide to Karin Chakwas aboard the 'Normandy' . Her parents were also doctors in the service of the Alliance while she chose civilian practice. Before she went into private practice and opened her own clinic, she worked at another clinic, from which she was fired for giving away drugs for free. Years later, she closed her clinic and was recruited by Jennifer Shepard. She had red hair and green eyes. She tried to save people as best she could.

Matteo gestured to her, "Hello, how does the meal taste?"

Chloe looked at him "Even good - I haven't had such a good meal in a long time."

"And what is it?" Shepard asked/.

"Beef Wellington - Gordon Ramsey's famous dish. I must admit , it is good. Surely you do not want to talk about food?"

"He meets my crew - the recommendation of the 'psychologist' Matteo admitted looking at the plates - there is still some left.

"A! That's good , I know you , I haven't met anyone here either except Rupert and Dr. Chakwas. I'm glad to have met you," she admitted.

"Reciprocally. I won't bother eating anymore." Matteo walked away from the table leaving Michel and Gartner. He headed for the elevator and went to the next floor.

Matteo was already on the top floor - the command center. He exited the elevator and approached Charles Presley - the navigator working with Jonathan Carragher. Charlie stopped his work and looked at the commander.

From Alliance records, Charles' grandfather fought in the First Contact War. He is quite skeptical of the non-humans (especially Turians) aboard the Normandy. Despite his prejudices, he remains loyal to Shepard and the Alliance .

After finishing school, he followed in his grandfather's footsteps and joined the Alliance fleet. Before serving on the Normandy, he served on the SSV Agincourt, aboard which he fought during the Scylla Blitz, on the colony of Elysium. After undergoing selection, he was appointed by Admiral Jane Shepard aboard the Normandy as Navigator Officer.

His friend Jonathan Carragher was one of the best in the Alliance military academy - as a cadet he discovered a new hyperspace route to the Citadel. He quickly rose through the ranks of the Alliance. He was assigned to the 'Normandy' as the second Navigator. He was a young man. His face reflected the light - according to many officers, Jonathan had removed his facial hair with a laser and therefore his face was very smooth. He looked at the commander.

"Sir," he saluted. Presley did the same. "How are you doing?"

"Even well , thank you for asking. I'm walking around the ship and getting to know the crew members - I already know all the people. They are brilliant. You guys are good, too. How is the work on the hyperspace routes going?" Matt asked, changing the subject.

"Not even bad Commander - we are discovering probably a new hyperspace route , which will shorten the way to Felucia and Saleucami. This will help us avoid the Empire's radars. I used to remember the hits it made . And those ponderings - to look at the threshhold or to find a new hyperspace route . I miss those times hehe" Presley laughed. Shepard looked at Jonathan.

"And you Garragher? - What's your history?"

"And the story I have is that navigating didn't interest me , and I joined only because like every man I wanted to see space. I fulfilled the dream. And now I'm making some kind of a scrawl on the map and calling them hyperspace routes. That's life now." Jonathan said. Matteo nodded.

"I don't think I'll bother you guys," Shepard slowly began to walk away from the navigators. He headed toward the elevator. Today he met his entire 'Normandy SR-3' crew
