Sleep Deprivation

Dean and Cas were on the bed, cuddling close together. Cas was trying so hard to stay awake. He was still tired from all the sleep deprivation he's had. He looked at his watch. 6:30. He looked up at Dean, who had closed eyes.

"Dean?"

"Mm?"

"You awake?"

"Nope. I'm sound asleep." Cas smiled.

"Keep me awake. I don't want to sleep."

"How are you tired? You slept most of the way here."

"Shut up," He chuckled. "So, Sam and Gabriel are mates?"

Dean looked down at him. "Yeah. Found out a few weeks ago. Why?"

"Well, they're mates. We're mates. Sam is your brother. Gabriel is my cousin. I just find it kinda... coincidental is all."

Dean nodded. "Right. So why haven't you been sleeping lately? What kind of stress?"

"Just something that happened recently, I don't like to talk about it."

"Alright. So, you think we should tell them? My mom and Sam?"

"Not right now. I don't wanna get up." Dean scoffed.

"Neko. All you wanna do is eat and sleep."

"All you Kitsune wanna do is eat and fuck everything that moves."

Dean huffed a laugh. "Touché. So when do you want to tell them? We don't have to now, but we will have to. They're gonna want to know. Cas?"

He looked down at him. His eyes were closed and he was snoring softly. Dean smiled at the sight. "You adorable little bastard." He kissed the top of his head. He closed his eyes and was soon asleep.

He was standing there. He was in the road. He knew what road. He tried to call out, but he had lost the ability to speak. He looked all around until he spotted them. The gun.

He awoke in a cold sweat. Dean was lightly snoring next to him. He looked at his watch. 4:35. It was a relentless nightmare. That's why he was so sleep deprived. He couldn't avoid the nightmare. Sleep always found him.

Tears formed in his eyes. He grabbed his long, black cat tail and started wringing it in his hands like a stress ball. He needed one. He began to quietly sob into Dean's shirt. He hated that nightmare. It was so real. It couldn't have been more real.

"Cas?" Dean grumbled. He had been awoken by the sound of Cas crying. "Hey, what's the matter?"

He held him tight, running his fingers through his raven-colored hair. Cas couldn't speak. He was crying too much. After a few minutes of Cas sobbing and Dean comforting him, he managed to speak.

"It's the same nightmare. Over and over for the past six months."

"It's okay. Tell me about it."

"No. I can't."

"Hey, yes you can. I'm here for you."

But he didn't tell him. He didn't have it in him. Dean could tell he didn't feel like talking. He tried to calm him down by singing The Gambler by Kenny Rogers. Soon, Cas drifted into a blissfully dreamless sleep.
