Lost Cause

Castiel was a lonely Neko. All he wanted was to find his mate. But everywhere he went, he was no closer to finding her. Or him, depending on what fate decides.

But one day, he decided to go for a drink, although he never really drank. He looked to his left where three men were having an altercation. It seemed like the two, much bigger, guys, were arguing with the Kitsune. He knew the man was a Kitsune because he could see his tail and his ears. The two other men were Tanuki. Things looked as though they were going to get heated, so Castiel approached the men.

"What do you think you're doing?" He asked.

"Hey, why don't you beat it, Fluffy?" One of the men chuckled.

"Yeah, hit the road, Mr. Whiskers." Both men laughed.

"I don't take orders from Neanderthals."

"Then who do you take orders from, Garfield?"

"You should both leave. Now."

"Or what? You'll hiss at us?" Castiel extended his claws and swiped at one of the men.

"Don't underestimate a Neko." The one he scratched had claw marks on his face.

"Let's get out of here, Alastair." He said, walking away.

"Right behind you, Azazel." They both left.

Castiel looked at the Kitsune. "Are you alright?"

"Uh, yeah. I'm fine. My name is Sam. Sam Winchester." He held out his hand, Castiel shaking it.

"Castiel Novak."

"Well, thanks." Castiel was about to respond, when another Kitsune approached them.

"Sammy, I just saw Alastair and Azazel. Were they-" He looked at Castiel. They both felt something, but they weren't sure what. Their hearts pounded in their chest, there were butterflies in their stomach. "Um, who's this?"

"I'm Castiel. Castiel Novak."

"I'm Dean Winchester. Sam's brother."

"Castiel here saved me from them. You know, Alastair and Azazel." They were still caught in a trance-like state. They almost didn't hear what Sam said. Dean cleared his throat.

"Oh. Um, thank you for that." Dean said nervously.

"It's not a problem."

"Um, did you scratch Azazel?" Castiel looked down at his feet.

"Yes." He muttered.

"That's awesome." Dean said with a smile.

Castiel looked up at him and smiled too. "Really?"

"Hell yeah. No one would stand up to the Demons like that."

"The what?"

"The Demons. It's this gang full of punk-ass Tanuki who think they're better than everyone else." Castiel nodded in understanding.

"Oh."

"My parents would wanna meet you. We're what you might call 'anti-Demon'."

"Really? You want your parents to meet me?"

"Absolutely. Right Sammy?"

"It's Sam, and yes. We would love to have you over. There's nothing to do at the house anyway."

"You're one to talk. You've got Gabriel."

"Gabriel?" Castiel repeated.

"Yeah. He's my mate." Sam explained.

"Gabriel Speight?"

"Yeah, how'd you know?" Sam asked.

"That's actually my cousin."

Dean smiled. "Even better. It'll be like a family reunion."

Sam and Dean walked out of the bar, Dean gesturing for Castiel to follow. Has the lonely Neko found his mate?
