Dean awoke to find Cas resting his head on his chest, sucking his thumb a little. In his attempt not to laugh, he let out a small giggle. He covered his mouth with his hand, trying not to wake up Cas. When he was confident he could keep from laughing, he removed his hand and ran it through Cas's hair.
"Are all Neko this friggin cute?" He asked himself in a whisper. Cas snored in response. Dean's smile grew brighter. He decided to sing to him some more, just because.
"Johnny's daddy was taking him fishing,
When he was eight years old.
Little girl came through the front gate,
Holding a fishing pole.
His dad looked down and smiled,
Said, 'We can't leave her behind.
'Son I know you don't want her to go,
'But someday you'll change your mind.'
And Johnny said,
'Take Jimmy Johnson, take Tommy Tompson,
'Take my best friend Bo.
'Take anybody that you want as,
'Long as she don't go.
'Take any boy in the world.
'Daddy, please,
'Don't take the girl.'"
He kept petting Cas with a big smile on his face.
"Keep going." Cas muttered. Dean chuckled quietly.
"Same ole boy, same sweet girl.
Ten years down the road.
He held her tight and kissed her lips in,
Front of the picture show.
Stranger came and pulled a gun,
Grabbed her by the arm.
Said, 'If you do what I tell you to do,
'Won't be any harm.'
And Johnny said,
'Take my money,
'Take my wallet,
'Take my credit card.
'Here's a watch that my grandpa gave me.
'Here's the key to my car.
'Mister, give it a whirl.
'But please,
'Don't take the girl.'"
"Should I keep going?" Dean asked with a smile. Cas nodded.
"Same ole boy, same sweet girl,
Five years down the road.
There's gonna be a little one and she,
Says 'It's time to go.
'Doctor says the baby's fine,
'But you'll have to leave.
'Cause his momma's fading fast.' and,
Johnny hit his knees,
And then he prayed,
'Take the very breath you gave me.
'Take my heart from my chest.
'I'll gladly take her place if you let me.
'Make this my last request.
'Take me out of this world.
'God please,
'Don't take the girl.'" Cas joined in.
"Johnny's daddy was taking him fishing,
When he was eight years old."
"No nightmare, then?"
"Nope. What time is it?" He didn't even open his eyes.
"8:35."
"I'm gonna risk some more sleep."
"You daredevil." Cas chuckled.
"Could you sing to me until I fall asleep?"
"You know I can, baby."
"Something in your eyes,
Makes me want to lose myself,
Makes me want to lose myself,
In your arms.
There's something in your voice,
Makes my heart beat fast.
Hope this feeling lasts,
The rest of my life.
If you knew how lonely my life has been,
And how low I've felt for so long.
If you knew how I wanted someone,
To come along,
And change my world the way you've done.
Feels like home to me.
Feels like home to me.
Feels like I'm all the way back where I come from.
Feels like home to me.
Feels like home to me.
Feels like I'm all the way back where I belong."
He looked down at Cas. He wasn't sucking his thumb this time, but Dean could tell he was asleep. He held him tight and closed his eyes, soon falling asleep as well.
He awoke to the sound of Cas crying quietly into a pillow. He must've been trying not to wake him up.
"Cas, come here." He whispered. They held each other tight, Dean whispering words of comfort into his ear. He rocked him back and forth, trying to soothe him. Eventually, Cas managed to speak.
"It was different." He spoke between sobs.
"Shh, it's okay. How was it different?" He was just taking in short gasps of air. "Cas, breathe. Okay? Deep breaths."
He helped get his breathing back to normal so he could speak.
"It wasn't my mom. And I wasn't in the road. I was in some sort of factory. It was on fire. There was a man there. He didn't make it."
"Do you know who it was? The man?"
"No. He was tall, had kinda thinning dark hair, seemed pretty gruff. He kept yelling 'I'm sorry'. Does he sound familiar?" He looked up at Dean who had tears running down his face. "Dean, what's wrong? Do you know him?"
"Know him?" He muttered. "It's my father."
