As they turned twelve, both Naruto and Kagome entered the Ninja Academy. Kagome grew but she was still shorter than Naruto. Her black hair flowed past her waist, and her long, pointed bangs nearly covered her sapphire colored eyes. She wore a silk kimono the color of her eyes that stopped at her mid-thigh with a white obi that ended at a bow above her waist, and traditional blue shinobi shoes.

“Kagome, let’s sit together!” Naruto exclaimed as they entered the classroom.

“Hai!” She responded eagerly with a large smile plastered on her face.

Naruto used to wear a blue and orange jumpsuit before Kagome made him something more…attractive. She gave him black hakamas and a white haori with an orange sash tied to the side on his hip, and two pieces hang down, nearly touching the floor. Kagome made him get rid of the goggles and leave his hair wild.

“Oi, look at the two freaks.” A student laughed and pointed at them.  

Naruto’s eyes flashed red while Kagome’s flashed black, like her hair. They took each other’s hand, and continued to their seats. Shikamaru, Kiba, Hinata, Choji, and Shino sat with them since they are all very good friends even though their parents barely trust them; they didn’t care at all.

“Alright, guys! We have your teams already. Okay team 1 is…” Iruka droned on; mostly everyone blocked Iruka-Sensei out until their names were called.

“Team 7: Naruto Uzuamaki, Sasuke Uchiha, Sakura Haruno, and Kagome Higurashi. Team 8: Kiba Inuzuka, Hinata Huyga, and, uh Shino Aburimne. Team 9: Shikamaru Nara, Ino Yama-“He was cut off but Ino.

“NOOOO!” She cried dramatically.

Iruka cleared his throat nervously. “Uh, and Choji-“Again he was cut off but by Choji.

“I’m outta chips!” He shouted angrily.

Iruka’s sweatdropped and he sighed. “Okay…Team 7, stay here and everyone else, go find your sensei.” He left with everyone else.

Naruto glared at the young Uchiha as he stared at Kagome, who was looking at some birds with envy.

“Naruto, stop glaring at my Sasuke!” A smack, followed by a thud, made Kagome glance behind her. Naruto was sitting on the floor rubbing the back of his head, and Sakura towered over him with fire in her green eyes. The wind around Kagome swirled in her anger but Naruto shook his head.

Kagome turned her black eyes on the other girl. “Hit Naruto again, girl, you’ll answer to me.”

First the pink haired girl was stunned before sneering at Kagome who simply stared back with blank eyes. “Like you could beat me!” She huffed and crossed her arms.

“Don’t, Sakura.” Sasuke warned.

“But-“she started to protest but Kagome ran toward Sakura with clearly inhuman speed and punched her in the face. The taller girl flew through the door, narrowly missing a gravity-defying silver haired Jounin. Kakashi Hakate slowly turned to look at Kagome who was surrounded in sapphire flames, and had strange marks upon her face. Kakashi’s eyes widened in realization; the girl’s demon is trying to get out.

“’Gome, calm down! It’s okay, she won’t hurt me.” Sasuke clenched his hands as Naruto wrapped Kagome in his arms. Red aura engulfed Kagome’s blue flame-like aura. Her eye color returned to normal and she nuzzled Naruto’s neck, whimpering.

“Uh, Naruto, what exactly happened?” Kakashi hesitantly asked.

“She broke my face!” Shouted the pink haired girl.

Everyone looked at the other girl. Her jaw does look broken, Kakashi sighed. Grabbing the pinkie’s arm, he glanced behind him. 

“Sasuke, Naruto, and Kagome, I want you three at the team 7 training grounds now. Oh, and Miss Higurashi? Don’t try to break anyone’s bones if you can help it.” Kakashi gave her an upside down ‘u’ smile with his one eye.

“Hn,” grunted Kagome as she continued nuzzling Naruto’s neck.

Kakashi’s sweatdropped and he scratched the back of his head nervously. “Alright, I’ll join you all shortly.” With that, Kakashi went to take a sobbing Sakura to the medic ninjas. Kagome broke away from Naruto with a blush and jumped through the window to head for the training grounds with lightning speed.

“Whoa, she’s even faster than before!” Exclaimed the blond as he watches her jump on branch to branch the ninja way.

“What did she do to Sakura, dobe?” Sasuke growled as he glared at the blond boy.

Naruto turned his irritated eyes on the young Uchiha and sneered. “She broke her jaw; weren’t you listening, you teme?!” A tick mark appeared on his temple as he glared at the emo boy that used to be his best friend. Sasuke just ‘Hn’ ed and Naruto scoffed, jumping out the window as well. Jumping from branch to branch on all fours, he easily spotted Kagome. He could smell her tears and caught up quickly to her. 

“’Gome?” He inquired. 

Startled, Kagome snapped her head to look at him with wide eyes. “Oh, Naruto! I didn’t hear you; Sorry.”

Ignoring her apology, he studied her red, puffy eyes. “Are you okay? I understand why you did it.”

“It’s just that I hate seeing you in pain, Naruto. Sakura had no right hurting you that way. You didn’t even do anything.” She growled.

Naruto smiled a sad smile as he looked forward. “Eh, she always had been like that.”

Kagome glanced at him and frowned at the look of sadness on his handsome face. She was too concentrated on Naruto, that she misjudged the length of the next branch and went a bit too far. When she landed, her foot slipped and she squeaked.

“Kagome!” He shouted in alarm as she fell. Naruto dove after her and quickly gathered her in his arms, tucking her head under his chin. They fell head first into a small but deep river. Sasuke made his way to the training grounds as well when he heard a splash. He stopped on a high branch and watched in jealousy as Naruto carried a wet Kagome in his arms.

She smiled at him with a small blush. “Arigoto, Naruto!” 

Said boy smirked as he looked at her. “No problem. Just watch where ya step next time.” Being the klutz he is as well, he tripped.
