Prologue *
"Victoria," Her mother asked, ask she took dinner out of the oven, "Where are you sweetie?" He voice was easily heard throughout the small two story home.
Victoria hid behind the recliner in the corner of the living room. Her soft giggling gave her away the majority of the time. The both of them enjoyed the little games of his and seek. It lightened the mood and kept the both of them occupied.
"Victoria, come out please it's time to eat," Her mother started to walk out of the kitchen.
"Mommy!!" Victoria screamed, "Mommy, there is a spider!!" She ran out from behind the chair and hugged her mother's leg.
"Aww, sweetheart you're alright," her mother picked her up and began rubbing her back like always. "Mommy has you, you're ok."
Victoria pushed her fiery red curls back and smiled. She wrapped her arms around her mother's neck, "Mommy, I love you."
"Sweetheart, I love you too." Her mother kissed her forehead and took Victoria to the kitchen.
Victoria slid out of her mothers grip and trotted over to her chair. She pulled herself up, her grin seemed to be stretching from ear to ear. Her mother placed a plate of chicken nuggets and fries in front of her. Victoria carefully stood on her chair and hugged her mother once again, "Mommy, I'm glad I have you."
Her mother broke into tears. "Oh, sweetie."
"Mommy?" Victoria questioned. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing sweetheart. These are happy tears." She reassured Victoria as she hugged her.
Victoria kissed her mother's cheek before sitting back down. She smiled before staring to bite into the crispy chicken. Her mother didn't join her, she stood looking out of the kitchen window. Once Victoria had finished her mom began to do the dishes. Every so often she'd glance out the window like she'd normally do. This time something felt off, after a few moments she saw dark figures move along the tree line. Her mother let out a gasp and rushed over to Victoria. "Sweetheart, I want you to go upstairs and hide in the trap door in my little hidden closet." She whispered.
Victoria's emerald green eyes looked up into her mothers ocean blue ones. "Mommy, what's happening?" Her voice was shaky.
"Sweetie, Grandma and Grandpa will be here in the morning, now hurry." She ushered Victoria to the stairs.
Victoria rushed up the stairs as fast as she could. She rushed into her mother's room and slid under the bed. Where the bed touched the wall, was a wooden door, where she could fit into. She quietly opened it and crawled inside. Once she was fully inside she opened the trap door and slowly lowered herself in. She curled up inside of the tiny room and listen to what was going on downstairs.
A loud sound came from downstairs, causing the house to shake followed, by the shattering of glass and wood splintering. Victoria shook in fear. Her heart was racing and her breathing was shallow.
"Oh look who we have here. I though you would've ended it yourself after we were here the last time." A deep voice said.
"What are you talking about?" Victoria's mother asked.
"Oh, please, you've forgotten about your mate's death, it's only been four years." This voice was different, it still sound like a man's voice, only higher.
"I see you're no longer pregnant. Did the assassin do his job?" A woman asked.
"I'm the only one left. I have nothing now!" Victoria's mother yelled, causing a shriek to erupt from one of the killers.
Victoria winced at the growls, but she didn't dare move. The only thing she could do, was wait it out.
"Good, now some of your kind will die out peacefully." A wicked laugh erupted from one of the killers.
Loud cracking could be heard throughout the house, followed by a howl. 'What's happening' Victoria thought.
"Just because you shifted you filthy beast, doesn't mean that we can't kill you." The feminine voice said.
"We have silver bullets, you wolf!" The slightly higher manly voice said.
A loud growl emerged from Victoria's mother's throat. Followed by a gun shot and a decaying howl.
"Leave the body here." Someone shouted, as foot steps started to retreat.
•••••••••••
Victoria didn't leave the closet, she stayed put all night. She barely slept. She was about to leave the little room, when she heard birds chirping, but stopped when she heard foot steps down stairs.
Her heart started to race, and her arms began to tremble. The foot steps had stopped and everything was silent. The footsteps soon continued up the stairs. The footsteps were light on the stairs causing quiet creaks. The only way Victoria could tell if it was family if she would have to hear the six knock code that her mother had taught her.
The footsteps were replaced with silence once again. Victoria's heart pounded even more. Her breathing was shallow. The silence broke when she heard two quick knocks. Then a pause, followed by three more knocks. Then there was a long pause followed by one more knock. The correct code. Victoria's body started to calm down knowing that the footsteps belonged to some one in the family.
"Tori? Are you in here?" A sweet familiar voice asked.
"Grandma is that you?" Victoria asked as she crawled out of the little room.
"Baby girl, your alright!" Her grandma, ran up to her and pulled her in to a warming hug. She immediately noticed that Victoria's eyes were red and puffy.
"Where's mommy?" Victoria asked worriedly, her voice was cracking.
"Baby, just put your head down in my shoulder and try to sleep." Her grandma's voice was calm, she picked Victoria up and started to walk back down stairs and out of the house.
Victoria listened to what she was told and tried her best to go to sleep. "Grandma?" Victoria's voice was muffled.
"Yes baby girl?" Her grandmother headed straight outside.
"Is everything going to be alright?" Victoria's voice was muffled since her head was buried in her grandmothers neck.
"From now on." Her grandma opened the car door and gently placed Victoria in the car. "I promise." She gently placed a kiss on Victoria's forehead.
"Come on hun, we have to get out of here before the humans, come back." Grandma climbed into the car and urged Grandpa to speed off.
Victoria's head started to droop and her eyes became heavy. She leaned her head back on the seat and a yawn escaped her mouth. "Grandma, Grandpa." She mumbled.
"Yes Dear?" The asked in unison.
"I love you both."
"We love you too."
Victoria smiled and the darkness soon engulfed her, sending her mind to a place where reality didn't exist.
