Chapter 3
Isla too was an heir from her pack, though not male, she was the only child to the alpha thus leaving the position to her when the time would come. However the rime would never come due to the downfall of her pack, the ruthless, merciless slaughter of every man woman and child. Isla didn't understand why he sounded so confused? Did they not use tonics and magic the way the Moon pack had?
Isla on the other hand had been excited to one day lead, everyone thought because she was a woman that she wouldn't display the same greatness her father had. Isla had practiced every day, trained every until her body was sore. Though days having been far gone now she could barely hold herself up due to the damage not only inflicted on her but on her wolf.
Isla had visibly calmed down his words finally sinking in, and as odd as it was his voice, his scent, his presence seemed to be calming her down ever so slightly. Isla's eyes shifted from him to the bed that he pointed too. The man was right, she was far too exhausted to keep going, her wolf wouldn't come out, not until she was healed. With a soft sigh, and visibly calm she nodded agreeing to his plea.
Isla climbed up into the bed, the woman was quite small standing five foot even. Her skin was pale from years of being within the mountains, but she tanned in summer of given the chance. "H-how long do I have to stay?" She asked her voice barely above a whisper her eyes falling to the bed. She didn't want to stay stagnant too long. She knew the witches would find a way to get her, the Shadow pack in alliance with them would make it all that much easier.
"I'm sorry for trying to hit you with a pillow.." she mumbled apologetically. Her eyes still not meeting his ins slight embarrassment. Isla sat back against the bed her body giving way to the comfort of the material.
Felix felt nothing but immense relief as she decided to lay down. He handed her the blankets provided, and didn't even attempt to pick the IVs off the floor; he would leave that up to the nurse, likely after the girl had fallen back asleep, so she wouldn't panic when they were reinserted— if they needed to be, of course. It had been several hours, and it was possible she could just drink water from here on out.
"Do you need anything?" He asked. Although she had layed back down, he knew she still didn't feel comfortable, and was desperate to make her so. "The nurse will be in here soon. She's a friend," he said, speaking clearly and comfortably, "She can bring you a glass of water, or a tray of lunch if you'd like. Are you hungry? Oh, and I never got your name... if that's okay to ask. I'm Felix."
Strangely, he was a bit nervous as he spoke to her. He wasn't used to feeling nervous. He was completely confident and prideful in all that he did; and yet, now, he was trying to get someone to actually like him— or at least to be comfortable with him— for the very first time. And so, he was nervous, fidgeting with his hands, and running a sweaty palm through his dark, ruffled hair. He hoped she couldn't see how nervous he was, or the influx of new, unusual emotions he was feeling, but he knew it was probably obvious, especially to the strong nose of a fellow wolf.
Isla gently took the blanket pulling them over herself. With ever passing second she grew a bit calmer. The weight of her soreness and pain sinking in while her adrenaline had went down. Even still she was on guard, the place was strange to her. Perhaps her pack was a bit out dated but she was trying to process the new environment.
"I-I'm okay." Her voice still trembled from anxiety as she pulled the blanket up to her faces she could smell his lingering scent in the blankets from him giving it to her and it made her wolf hum, it brought comfort to her. Isla watched as he rambled on. She could sense the nervousness from him but she didn't know why was nervous. Her eyes watched him intently, studying his movements.
"I'm Isla..." she said softly still unsure if she should have even given him her name. "Where am I?" She asked unsure of her surrounding or what pack she was currently in. "How long to I have to be here?" She asked just as the nurse had walked through the door with some water.
"Oh you're up! Good, you had me worried." The woman chimed a bit too excited for Isla to handle.
Isla pulled the blanket over her head not wanting to speak to anyone else but him. She didn't feel safe around anyone else. She barely felt safe around him but even the small ounce was enough.
Although the nurse had done nothing wrong, at Isla's trepidation, Felix bristled, quickly turning around nearly with a snarl. The nurse was clearly taken away; she took a step back and her eyes went wide. Immediately, Felix felt embarassed. He didn't even know Isla, and yet, he was already protective of her. But he knew it wasn't just him; his wolf pushed him instinctually. There was just something about her... he couldn't place his finger on it.
"Sorry," he said to the nurse, and then, a bit more sternly, he said, "She's just waking up, and she's pretty afraid. I think she needs some space and time to rest."
The nurse pipped up on her tip-toes and peeked over Felix's broad shoulders to eye Isla, then said, "But her IVs! We have to get those back in—"
Felix growled, feeling his wolf about ready to lunge out of his chest, "I said, she needs space."
The nurse nodded, a little nervously, but decided quickly to respect the future Alpha's demand. She smiled softly, "If you need anything else, let me know."
With a second thought, Felix asked her, "Bring a glass of water." Felix didn't want to force the IVs back into Isla's arms, but he also didn't want her to get dehydrated again. On second thought, she was probably hungry, too— whether she wanted to admit it or not. He then thought of making her something to eat whenever she fell asleep; something better than the cold hospital food she would get if he'd asked the nurse for a meal. Felix was a fantastic cook, and he loved to do so; in a way, it was something he took pride in, and he wanted this girl to try his delicious cooking; even if she was gone in a week, he wanted her to have at least one thing to look back fondly on.
"No problem!" The nurse said, and turned and left, quietly clicking the white door behind her. Felix sighed, a little frustrated with the entire situation, and unsure of where to go from here. Then, he turned back to Isla, and answered her previous questions.
"Sorry," he began, "But the nurses just want to help. They're doctors, you know... And you don't have to stay here for long. Just a few days until you're healed." He continued, "Our pack is called the Lucille Pack. It seems like you've come quite a ways... We have a good ally on one border: The Greenville Pack. They're known for their great advances in medicine, and they loan doctors to our medical bay in exchange for goods. But our other border is connected to the Shadow Pack's territory; that's where you came from, isn't it?" He shook his head, a bit angrily, "Whoever it is, we'll find them..."
