Chapter 12
Noelle
"Matchmaker, am very worried. My boyfriend has been ignoring my calls for a week now. He won't call or even text me, the last time we spoke, we're fine. Matchmaker, I don't understand, what should I do? What did I do wrong? Need your help asap."
I blinked as I stared at the screen. The message had come from one of the very first couples I ever matchmade.
Quickly, I typed in a message as I rushed to math class, my last class of the day. "Riley, I think you are overreacting. He may be going through a tough time, try to show him your support and give him some space."
I clicked send as I walked into the auditorium. Unfortunately, our principal, Mr. Bryan, thought it would be nice for all the seniors to learn Maths in one space. It was sad because the class was always disorganized, been it was the last class of the day and half of the students were piped up to leave school.
Immediately, Sapphire waved me over and slowly, I made my way through nosy room to the middle row. Aria was already seated going through something on her phone and Sapphire smiled warming at me. I smiled back as I took my seat-right in the middle of two of them.
My eyes wandered around the room when my eyes fell on Juan, she was looking smug at what some girl said and immediately her eyes met mine, she gave me a death glare that would have buried me 10 feet underground if it was possible.
Speaking of her, my little group and I have been trying to keep Anna out of her sight for the past two weeks and so far, we have been lucky.
But we wouldn't shield her forever and Juan was so secretive when she wants to be.
Whatever she had planned hadn't gotten out to the cheerleaders except to her close group of friends.
"Good day students," our Math teacher, Mr. Timothy said as he strolled in. Aria and students from the back groaned aloud. I didn't understand why they did that, I liked math, not that I actually like it that much, I liked it enough to get a B most of the time.
"So today, we aren't doing Maths-" he was saying and the whole class cheered. "But, we are going to discuss your future. Think of it as an interactive class," he said as he moved around the class then paused for a dramatic effect.
That's right, my teacher was a drama queen.
"We are going to talk about your choices of universities and the lines of the possible profession," he rambled on as I watched the sunny day through auditorium window. 'wow, this could be a good day for a swim,' I said to myself.
I paid no attention to Mr. Timothy because Aria, Sapphire and I already had this talk a few months back before even becoming seniors. Aria and I decided to attend UC Berkeley and Sapphire was yet to decide and hadn't even given college a thought.
Sapphire was a big fan of making last minute decisions, she never did anything according to plan which was still fine because her decisions were always the right ones for her.
The guys at the back roared in excitement. They all came up with lies all year to avoid this class. They were happy than the rest of us probably because their ocean of lies had dried up.
"Lucas Tate, where and what?" Mr. Timothy asks after glancing through the register. Lucas was seated at the back with his weird friend, Reese. Both of them did not look very happy.
"Em Sir, UCLA to study architecture Sir," he said. And half of the class clapped. "That's very good, Lucas," the teacher remarked. I turned around to look at him and I could swear I saw a pink stain on his cheeks. Aria rose her head looking smug and proud of her brother, she wanted him to be happy and study whatever he wanted and not to study something he disliked because of his inheritance.
"Aaron?"
"I haven't decided yet, Sir." The teacher stared at him a few minutes before asking someone else. I turned to look at Aaron and I caught him looking back at me. Of course, he had decided where to go and what to study, Stanford to be linguistic to be exact. He told me months ago.
As the class went on, a lot of people answered some people like Sapphire and Juan were asked the same question but with no valuable answer. Soon the bell rang.
"Students, remember submissions for the college applications will start in a few weeks. And for those of you still thinking about it, think faster," he said, frowning directly at Saph and Juan.
"Yes Sir, people like Aaron," I whispered to myself as the bell rang and voices of students got louder as they spilled into the hallway.
Saph, Aria and I hurried out of class and went in search of Anna. Everyday, smeone had to walk her home and today was my day and both of them volunteered to come along. It had been two weeks already and nothing occurred so we had started to let our guards down.
We search around the hallways and her classrooms but she was nowhere in sight. I was starting to get very worried when I walked into a lean, hard body. Slowly, I raised my head to see Aaron's dark eyes staring down at me.
"Aaron, what are you doing here?"
"I go to school here." He replied, chuckling at my absurd question.
I face-palmed myself as I fell into a step with him. I glared at him and he stopped laughing. Silently, through the crowded hallways, we paved our way towards the exit. I wanted to ask him about what had happened in class earlier but I was much too occupied with looking for Anna.
While looking around the hallway for Anna, I hastily typed Aria a message,
Can't find her yet. With Aaron and we're heading to the school exit, continue to search. If you find her, text me.
–N
Immediately, I typed the last word and clicked send. I raised my head to see we were already outside the main entrance. I felt a warm breath on my shoulder, I turned around to see Aaron looking down at my phone, a text I was sending to be exact.
As soon as he saw me looking his way, he jerked his head up with speed but it was too late.
"What the hell, Aaron!" I exclaimed and I stopped in my tracks, walk about an invasion of privacy!
"Am sorry, I just wanted to see what you were so focused on," he said, his voice breaking as he combed his hand through his hair....his cheeks turned slightly pink.
"Look, Aaron, I don't know what the hell is wrong with you but that wasn't right. This clinging isn't right and it has to stop. Am not your girlfriend and am definitely not your property so stop.... whatever this is called," I said as I stomped away, fuming.
Aaron's voice immediately turned apologetic, "Noelle, am sorry-" he was saying and I cut him off.
"Go, Aaron, I'll talk to you later, when my head is clear." I walked away from him towards the parking lot. I wasn't that angry at him, I was just been careful. If it had been my matchmaking blog he had caught me red-handed, what was I going to lie about that and Anna's disappearance was fast taking the top place in the list of my worries.
I ran to the parking lot, searching for her. I started panicking, I grip the straps of my bag and my phone tighter. I checked my phone, still no reply from Aria.
"What a great show, loverboy wasn't expecting that," a smug, rich, male familiar voice said. Instantly, I shut my eyes and prayed to the heavens that I was hallucinating and that he wasn't the one.
Slowly, I opened my eyes and turned around and those gorgeous pair of hazel eyes that had started to hunt me stared back at me. I gripped my phone much tighter and I was sure would break. The boy I have avoiding for weeks. Reece Anderson.
