Smile
Before her was just gloom. Fog was tangling in heavy city air. And behind her nothing. She was taking slow heavy breaths trying to concentrate at them and hold back all prickly thoughts which were buzzing in her mind.
The only thing she ever wanted was gone. For the whole length of her short life she was trying to not get attached, to not hope and to do not dream... much, and when she breaks it for one thing, only one teeny little thing, it must end tragically.
Heavy air was choking her, legs were too tired, and every step was getting harder. People passing around her too loud and neon lights blooming from windows too bright. She was past feeling, too tired to feel tired.
She passed a street band. Another sound wasn't helpful for her state. But as was her tired sight roaming streets ahead of her she noticed something. Instead of a hat full of money, band has butter before them, lot of butter. As if universe wasn't ridiculous enough right now.
She shaked her head and a light smile found it's way on her stiff lips. It felt like her muscles almost forgot how to do it but once they were at it, she can't stop. And then she broke into full laugh. Her by anxiety squeezed inside unfreezed.
Few more steps and winter sun hits her by surprising warm. She had to stop her way and lean on one of cold walls. Take a moment to catch her breath again. And then few more to admire the way in which were bright rays of sunshine dancing in afternoon streets. People were passing her, everyone having somewhere to go, somewhere to be.
Her mind was perplexed. Gone was numbness. What is she supposed to do now? Maybe she can start with smile. And then, well, maybe start again.
