Dan felt as though everyone was staring at him, with sympathetic smiles plastered on their faces. He wasn't sure why, but it made him nervous. Why were they being so sympathetic towards him? Did they know?

His question was answered moments later when Louise, a girl who sat in the middle of his form room and seemed to have too many friends to count, ran up to him, hair flying. "Dan?" she called. "Dan! Do you know about the pictures?"

Dan looked at her, confused. "What pictures?"

"Everyone who has a phone got sent them," she gasped, whipping out a mobile from one pocket and tapping its screen. "They're of you, and... I think it's Phil..."

Understanding began to dawn on Dan, followed by horror. "Can I see?"

Louise nodded frantically, spinning her phone around and showing Dan the image.

He didn't need to look for long, though. He'd already seen the image. On his father's phone.

"My dad got sent that picture," he whispered.

Louise stared at him in shock. "How?"

"I don't know, do I?"

Louise flinched, and Dan felt bad for snapping at her. "Look, sorry. I'm just stressed. Who could have taken that picture, though? And how did they get everyone's phone numbers, and my dad's number?"

"I don't know," Louise sighed. "If I knew who it was then I might be able to work out how they did it, but I've got no clue."

Dan's eyes flickered around the room, looking at people, who all seemed to be on their phones, or chatting excitedly about the mystery photographer.

"Apparently they've taken other pictures as well," Louise said, bringing Dan back to reality, "but I only know one person in them, and besides, they have a phone."

"Can I see?" Dan asked. He was hoping to find some kind of link between the pictures, but when he saw Louise's phone screen, that plan left him completely.

"PJ?"

"You know him?"

"Yeah, pretty well actually. That's him and Chris."

Louise looked at him confusedly. "Why does this person have some kind of obsession with photographing gay people?"

Dan laughed humourlessly. "I don't know. Maybe they're homophobic. Maybe they hope everyone will hate us."

Louise gave him a sudden and unexpected hug. "Nobody's going to hate you."

Dan raised an eyebrow sceptically, and Louise rethought her sentence. "Ok, most people won't hate you."

Dan grinned. "The people who matter won't hate me. That's my hope."

"That's the spirit!" cried Louise, smiling widely. "Positivity all the way! What's your first lesson?"

Dan checked his timetable. "Badminton." He sighed with relief. "I can talk to PJ, then. I need to ask him who the photographer could-"

The bell interrupted him and he slipped his timetable back in his pocket and said goodbye to Louise, before heading to badminton.

"PJ!" Dan panted, sprinting over to his friend with two rackets clutched in his hand. "PJ! Have you seen the pictures?"

One look at PJ's tired, miserable face confirmed this.

"Hey, what's wrong?" Dan asked softly, dropping the rackets and putting his arm around PJ. "It's not that bad, surely?"

PJ blinked hard and sniffed. "Everyone knows me, so everyone looks at me with this look of complete pity. I don't want their pity. It makes me think that bad things are about to happen."

Dan sucked air in through his teeth. "Unfortunately we can't really help that."

"We? What do you mean, we? You're nothing to do with this."

Dan ignored PJ's rudeness. "There's a picture of me and Phil too, you know."

PJ looked stricken. "Oh, my God, I'm so sorry!"

"Hey, it's fine. It's not your fault."

"No, I mean, both for the rudeness, and because it might indirectly be my fault."

Dan stared at him. "What?"

PJ gave him a sad smile. "Not everyone here likes me, you know. There was one period of time where there were embarrassing photos of me spread around the school, and then ones of friends who got angry with the people sending the pictures."

Dan stopped him. "You know who it is?"

"Sadly, yes. So, my friends stood up for me, and then for each other, but Phil got really, really angry with them. I think he punched a few people, although I'm not entirely sure."

Dan stared. That didn't sound like Phil, but then, strange things happen to people when they're angry.

"The photographers must have been saving up for the most embarrassing possible thing. Clearly, you and Phil making out behind a building was the best they could come up with."

Dan laughed weakly. "That doesn't explain why they'd send it to my parents."

"Maybe they just don't like you. Non-Master repercussions?"

Dan slid down to the floor and put his head in his hands. "They got me kicked out of my own home because they wanted to get back at Phil?"

PJ sat down beside him and hugged him. "You got... Kicked out... Of your own home?"

Dan gave a small nod. "Let's not talk about that. Who took the photos?"

"He's called Jake. Jake Roberts, if I'm not mistaken."

Dan stared. He'd only heard that name once before.

The name of the boy who swore he'd kill Dan.
