Chapter 61
The cavern echoed with the clash of metal and the guttural roar of a monstrous creature. Mia, her movements a blur of crimson and steel, danced around the hulking beast, her katana flashing in the dim light.
"Mia, watch out!" Nelson shouted from across the cavern, his voice tight with urgency. He weaved through the shadows, his trusty grappling hook in hand. "I've got an idea!"
"Make it quick, Nelson!" Mia yelled back, her voice strained as she parried a vicious swipe of the creature's claws. "This thing isn't slowing down!"
Nelson aimed his grappling hook at the creature's back, launching it with a swift flick of his wrist. The hook embedded itself deep within the beast's fleshy hide, causing it to screech in pain. "Got it! Now what?"
"Keep it distracted!" Mia commanded, her eyes scanning the creature for any sign of weakness. She dodged another attack, her mind racing. "There has to be something..."
The creature, enraged, thrashed its massive head, snapping its jaws at Nelson. He vaulted over a jagged rock formation, barely escaping the creature's fiery breath. "Any idea what this thing is weak against?" he called out, landing in a crouch.
"No clue!" Mia replied, her voice tinged with frustration. "But I bet it doesn't like being stabbed repeatedly!"
Their banter, though laced with fear, was a testament to their unwavering bond. Suddenly, Mia noticed a faint glint of light reflecting off the creature's chest cavity. "Nelson, wait! I see something!"
"What is it?" Nelson yelled back, dodging another attack. "Make it fast!"
"There are markings on its chest," Mia shouted, her eyes narrowing. "They might be its weak spot! Aim for them!"
Nelson's eyes widened in realization. "Got it!" He retrieved a small, spherical device from his belt. "Think this will do the trick?"
"Just do it!" Mia bellowed, drawing the creature's attention with a series of dazzling spins and katana strikes.
Nelson took a deep breath and aimed the device at the creature's glowing chest cavity. He launched it, the device exploding on impact and showering the creature with a blinding flash of light.
"It's working!" Nelson shouted, seeing the creature shudder and the markings glow brighter.
Mia seized the opportunity. With a powerful leap, she landed on the creature's back, her katana poised over its vulnerable neck. "Looks like you're all out of fight," she said with a grim smile.
The creature let out a final, pitiful whimper and collapsed to the ground. Mia and Nelson stood panting amidst the dust and debris.
Nelson wiped sweat from his brow, his eyes catching a hidden passage behind the fallen beast, its entrance bathed in an ethereal glow. "Look, Mia," he said, pointing. "Another passage. You ready for more?"
Mia sheathed her katana, her eyes gleaming with determination. "Ready as I'll ever be. Let's see what's waiting for us."

The distant clash of metal echoed through the cavern, sending tremors through the rocky ground beneath the paws of the pups. They had been hot on the trail of Mia and Nelson ever since they got seperated.
"There!" Chase, ever the leader, pointed towards a gaping hole in the cavern wall, faint light spilling out from within. "That must be where they went!"
Rubble and debris littered the entrance, a testament to the struggle that had just taken place. Marshall, ever the optimist, wagged his tail excitedly. "Let's go save them!"
Just then, a low groan echoed from around the corner. The pups froze, ears perked. A figure emerged from the shadows, limping slightly, her crimson cloak billowing behind her. It was Mia, her usually vibrant energy dimmed by exhaustion.
"Mia!" Chase exclaimed, relief flooding his voice. "Are you alright?"
Mia reached out and leaned heavily on her katana for support. "We're... we're alive," she rasped, her voice strained. "But Nelson... his ankle..."
A muffled groan confirmed her words. Nelson stumbled out from behind her, his face pale with pain, clutching his right ankle.
Marshall, his pup-sized heart overflowing with concern, rushed forward. "Oh no! You guys need to rest! That ankle looks sprained, at least!"
Mia grimaced, frustration etching lines on her face. "We can't rest, Marshall. We have to keep moving. We're close... I can feel it."
"Close to what?" Zuma, his voice dripping with worry, chimed in from behind Chase.
Mia hesitated, then shook her head. "It's a long story. But trust me, we can't stop now."
Just as she took a tentative step forward, Marshall planted himself firmly in her path. "Hold on there, Mia! You heard what I said. Sprained ankles are serious! You could make it worse!"
Rocky, ever the strategist, added his voice to the argument. "Marshall's right, Mia. We can help you and Nelson get back to the monastery. Then, when you're both healed up, you can continue your mission."
Mia sighed.
" If it makes you feel better, Nelson can stay. But, I've got to go."
Before anyone could protest, Mia was on the run once more.
Skye sighed.
" I'll go after her." She said, activating her wings.
" I'm going too." Chase added, firmly. " If Mia's on the move for Wu, then she's gonna need all the help she can get."
Then he turned to Zuma, Rubble and Marshall.
" You three stay with Nelson until we come back."
Skye and Chase weaved through the twisting tunnels, their headlamps carving beams of light through the oppressive darkness. The distant sounds of battle had faded, replaced by an unsettling silence. Every creak of a rock, every rustle of unseen creatures sent shivers down their spines.
"Mia! Slow down!" Skye called out, her voice echoing through the cavern. "You'll only aggravate your injury!"
Mia, a crimson blur ahead, didn't even turn her head. "There's no time," she muttered, her voice hoarse with exertion. "We have to keep moving."
Chase, frustration lacing his voice, pressed onward. "Mia, listen to Skye! Pushing yourself with a sprained ankle is just foolish. We can help you find Master Wu, but you need to be at least somewhat functional!"
Mia finally stopped, her back rigid. She whirled around, her eyes blazing with a feverish intensity. "Don't you get it? Every second we waste here, Wu is in danger! I can't afford to rest, not when so much is at stake!"
Skye landed beside Chase, her brow furrowed with concern. "We understand, Mia," she soothed. "But there's a difference between bravery and recklessness. Let us help you. We can find Wu together, but you need to be strong enough to contribute."
Mia glared at them for a long moment, her chest heaving with ragged breaths. Then, with a defeated sigh, she slumped against the cavern wall. "Fine," she muttered, her voice barely a whisper. "But if we're wasting time, I'm holding you both personally responsible."
A flicker of relief crossed Chase's face. "Deal. Now, let's see about that ankle." He crouched beside her, gently examining the injured limb.
Mia flinched as he brushed away a layer of grime, her face contorted in pain. "Easy there," Chase cautioned, his voice gentle. "It's definitely sprained, maybe even a slight fracture. We need to get you somewhere safe and get that looked at."
Mia scoffed. "Safe? There's no such thing down here. And getting medical attention will take too long. We need to find Wu, now!"
Skye, sensing the rising tension, knelt beside Mia. "Mia, we're not trying to stop you," she said earnestly. "We just want to make sure you can actually help when we find him. A hobbled ninja is no use to anyone, especially not the First Spinjitzu Master."
" Master Wu is NOT the First Spinjitzu master! Don't you get it? He's the fatherly figure in our Ninja family. Think of him like Ryder. You'd go after him, even with a broken leg, right?"
Skye and Chase remained silent. They knew that what Mia was saying was far too true.
Suddenly, a sharp yelp echoed through the cavern, slicing through the tension. Mia's head snapped up, eyes blazing with a renewed urgency.
"What was that?" Chase barked, his ears perked.
Mia was already moving, ignoring the throbbing pain in her ankle. "There!" she cried, pointing towards a dimly lit tunnel branching off from the main passage. "That sound came from there!"
Skye and Chase exchanged a worried glance. Arguing with Mia was a losing battle, but they couldn't just let her hobble off on her own. With a resigned sigh, they followed her, their headlamps illuminating the dusty path ahead.
As they ventured deeper into the tunnel, the air grew stale and thick. The sound of dripping water echoed through the cavern, adding to the eerie atmosphere. Then, around a bend, they stumbled upon the source of the yelp.
Suspended in mid-air, trapped within a cage of golden energy, was a shimmering yellow orb, pulsing faintly with a familiar light. And within the orb, a familiar voice echoed.
"Mia? What are you doing here?!"
Mia's jaw dropped. It was him. Master Wu, trapped within a sphere of pure energy. Her heart hammered in her chest, a mixture of relief and fear coursing through her veins.
"Master Wu!" she cried out, her voice cracking with emotion. "We're here to save you!"
The orb pulsed brighter with Wu's trapped voice. "You shouldn't have come," he said, his tone laced with concern. "This place is dangerous."
"Finding you was all that mattered," Mia declared, determination hardening her features. "Now, how do we get you out of there?"
Wu sighed, a hint of exasperation in his voice. "You're getting closer, Mia. But this cage is not a simple trap. It is powered by Spinjitzu itself. Only a powerful burst of Spinjitzu can break it."
Mia's eyes narrowed. Spinjitzu. A surge of power coursed through her, fueled by the desperation of the situation. She turned to Skye and Chase, a new fire burning in her gaze.
"We need to break this cage," she declared, her voice ringing with authority. "And I know just the way to do it."
" Wait, Mia!" Wu ( rather, Wu in the orb) called. " A burst that powerful could be only made with a Spinjitzu burst! And only Cole can do that in here."
" I have to try. This is the last resort." Mia said, determination filled in her voice.
" But that much energy could injure-"
Mia's voice, laced with a painful honesty, cut through Wu's warning. "Master Wu, with all due respect," she began, her gaze flickering between the trapped orb and her throbbing ankle, "I think it might be better... if I wasn't on the team anymore."
The silence that followed was heavy, thick enough to choke on. Skye and Chase exchanged a worried glance, the weight of her words settling on them like a physical blow.
"Mia, what are you saying?" Chase finally stammered, his voice laced with concern.
Mia let out a shaky breath. "Think about it," she said, her voice barely a whisper. "Every mission, it's the same. I get hurt, you guys worry, and then Jay... well, Jay has Nya now." A flicker of bitterness tinged her words, a raw vulnerability they had never seen before.
"It's like... I'm the spare part, the one you only call on when things get messy. Maybe the team would be better off without me slowing you down."
Then she turned to them.
" Besides, I don't think Jay would even mind if I'm gone. In fact, He'll love it. More room to have babies with each other."
A collective gasp escaped Skye and Chase. The truth, spoken so bluntly, was a harsh reality check. They hadn't meant for her to feel that way, but the weight of her words carried undeniable truth.
"Mia, that's not true!" Skye exclaimed, her voice firm but gentle. "You're an invaluable member of the team. You're brave, you're resourceful, and you have a heart of gold."
Chase, ever the pragmatist, chimed in, "And besides, who else is going to keep Jay's inventions from exploding?" A weak attempt at humor, but it managed to elicit a faint smile from Mia, the tension easing a fraction.
But the truth still lingered in the air, a heavy burden they couldn't ignore. Mia's feelings of being undervalued, of being the odd one out, were a stark reminder that they hadn't done enough to show her just how important she truly was.
Just then, Wu's voice, though muffled by the energy cage, boomed through the cavern. "Nonsense, Mia! You are a vital part of this team. Your courage and unwavering spirit are an inspiration to us all. Don't you dare doubt your worth!"
" Master Wu, if this is the last thing I do, just know..." Mia paused, and took a breath.
" Just know that I love you. All of you."
A lump formed in Chase's throat, and Skye looked away, blinking back tears. Even Jay, his usual bravado momentarily forgotten, felt a pang of emotion. Mia's confession, raw and honest, laid bare the depth of her bond with them, a bond that transcended victories and defeats.
Suddenly, a new resolve hardened Mia's gaze. She turned back to the energy cage, her eyes blazing with a newfound purpose. "This isn't about proving myself anymore," she declared, her voice ringing with authority. "This is about saving our family."
A surge of energy crackled around her, a tangible manifestation of her newfound determination. The pain in her ankle seemed insignificant compared to the fire burning within her.
"I may not be the strongest," she continued, her voice echoing through the cavern, "but I'm the most motivated. And that's all that matters right now."
Skye and Chase exchanged a glance, a silent conversation passing between them. They knew arguing was futile. Mia had made her choice, and they wouldn't stand in her way.
"Alright, Mia," Chase said finally, his voice filled with a newfound resolve. "We're with you. Let's do this."
With a newfound unity, the ninja huddled together, their eyes fixed on the energy cage and the trapped Master Wu. They knew the risks, the potential consequences of a failed Spinjitzu burst. But for their family, for the bond that transcended titles and victories, they were willing to face the unknown.
Mia poured every ounce of her being into the Spinjitzu burst. The cavern pulsed with vibrant energy, the air itself crackling with raw power. A blinding light erupted from her outstretched hand, slamming into the energy cage with a deafening boom. For a heart-stopping moment, nothing happened. Then, with a shower of golden sparks, the cage shattered, dissolving into nothingness.
The yellow orb, freed from its confinement, wobbled precariously in the air. Mia, her body trembling with exhaustion, reached out and steadied it with a trembling hand. Inside, the shimmering form of Master Wu flickered faintly.
"Mia..." his voice rasped, weak but filled with relief. "You did it..."
Mia slumped against the cavern wall, her breath coming in ragged gasps. The pain in her ankle was a dull throb now, overshadowed by the overwhelming sense of relief that washed over her. She had done it. She had saved Master Wu.
"Let's go..." she wheezed, her voice barely a whisper. "Find you... a place to rest..."
Just then, a deep rumble echoed through the cavern, sending tremors through the ground beneath their feet. The ceiling began to crack, dust raining down in a thick cloud.
"What was that?" Chase yelled, his voice strained.
"No time to explain!" Skye shouted back, grabbing Mia's arm. "We need to get out of here, now!"
Together, they helped Mia to her feet, supporting her weight as they hurried towards the tunnel they had come from. Behind them, the cavern groaned in protest, the rumble growing louder with each passing second.
"We have to get back to the others!" Chase barked, urging them on. "This place is about to collapse!"
They sprinted through the twisting tunnels, the tremors intensifying with each step. Rocks began to fall from the ceiling, narrowly missing them as they raced for the safety of the main passage.
Just as they reached the familiar cavern entrance, a deafening roar filled the air. The cavern behind them shuddered violently, and then, with a thunderous crash, the entire passage imploded, sealing them off from the depths below.
They stumbled to a halt, chests heaving, adrenaline coursing through their veins. The silence that followed the collapse was almost deafening.
Mia leaned against the wall, her body shaking with a mixture of exhaustion and exhilaration. She had saved Master Wu, but at what cost? They were trapped, cut off from their friends and with no way out.
"We're... we're trapped," Skye whispered, her voice trembling.
Master Wu's voice, faint but resolute, echoed from within the orb. "Don't worry, my friends. We will find a way. For now, we must rest. We have a long journey ahead."
Mia panted, but stood up.
" No." She said. " I refuse to give up. We came for you, Master Wu. And that's exactly what we're gonna do."
