Chapter 43
"" Okay, I take it all back! This isn't vivid imagination!" Mia screeched, waving her arms wildly from the top of a boulder.
" Hold oh, human! We're coming!" Blackie replied, weaving through the many legs.
" IS there a way to tame these guys?" Nelson called, studying one from afar.
" No! There isn't!" Blackie glared at Nelson with a disapproving look.
" Yes, there is! Don't you remember?" Rocky injected, hopping to join the trio.
" There is?" Blackie was confused.
" Yes, there is!" Rocky insisted. " You just had to jump on it's back to calm it down, and tap into it's elemental power. If an elemental master sits on one, the salamander will obey."
Mia's eyes widened with a glimmer of hope. "Are you serious? We can actually control them?"
Rocky nodded ( Rather, sort of shook) vigorously. "Absolutely! But you have to be careful. Each salamander has its own elemental affinity. You need to tap into that power without overwhelming it."
Nelson frowned, still skeptical. "And how do we know which elemental power each one possesses?"
Blackie, now intrigued, scanned the salamanders darting around. "Look closely at their markings and the way they move. It'll give you a clue."
Mia took a deep breath, mustering her courage. "Alright, let's do this. We need to find the one that resonates with our abilities."
" Mia, you have an element of wind. Try to find a wind salamander." Blackie directed.
" But, how am I gonna do that, Blackie? I don't know a salamander's anatomy, let alone a magical ones'!"
" A wind salamander will have a swirly marking on its hind. It has pinkish- whitish body, and it moves like a horse."
" A horse..... why are we bringing Bella into this?!"
" Forget your horse, Mia! Focus!" Rocky urged.
Mia nodded, refocusing her attention on the swirling mass of salamanders. She scanned the chaotic scene, searching for any hint of the distinctive markings described by Blackie.
"There!" she exclaimed suddenly, pointing towards a corner of the clearing where a group of salamanders with pinkish-white bodies danced amidst the tumult. "I see it! That one has the swirly marking on its hind!"
Blackie and Rocky followed her gaze, confirming her observation. "That's it, Mia! That's the wind salamander!" Blackie exclaimed.
Mia took a deep breath, steadying her nerves. "Okay, here goes nothing," she muttered to herself, steeling her resolve. With hesitant steps, she walked towards the salamander. The salamander, at first spooked, slowly calmed down as Mia extended her arm for it to sniff.
" Hey." She whispered. " It's okay. I mean no harm."
The wind salamander regarded Mia with cautious curiosity, its large eyes flickering with uncertainty. Mia held her breath, afraid to make any sudden movements that might startle the creature again. Slowly, she extended her arm further, her hand trembling slightly as it hovered inches away from the salamander's nose.
The air around them seemed to crackle with anticipation as Mia waited for the salamander's response. Would it accept her presence, or would it retreat back into the chaos of the swirling mass of creatures?
To her relief, the wind salamander leaned forward, its nostrils flaring as it sniffed at Mia's outstretched hand. She could feel the warmth of its breath against her skin, a sign that perhaps it was beginning to trust her. Encouraged by this small gesture, Mia summoned all of her courage and gently stroked the creature's sleek, pinkish-white scales.
At first, the salamander tensed under her touch, but then it seemed to relax, a soft purring sound emanating from its throat. Mia smiled, feeling a sense of connection with the magical creature. It was as if they were communicating without words, sharing an unspoken bond forged in that moment of mutual understanding.
Beside her, Blackie and Rocky watched with bated breath, their eyes wide with wonder at the sight unfolding before them. They had never witnessed such a harmonious interaction between a human and a salamander before, and it filled them with hope that perhaps they could indeed tame these wild creatures and harness their elemental powers for good.
Then, something happened that surprised them all. The salamander crouched down, and Mia hopped on. Immediately, Mia's bracelet glowed, and another charm was added to it. This one was a pink salamander, with a happy smile and freckles that resembled hers.
" That's it, Mia. You've bonded with it." Blackie breathed. " But, now we're gonna have another animal at the monastery. Me, Sapphire, Bella, and now your salamander."
As Mia sat atop the wind salamander, feeling the rush of the wind beneath her and the warmth of the creature's body beneath her, she couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the bond they had forged. The addition of the charm to her bracelet served as a tangible reminder of their newfound connection, a symbol of the trust and friendship that had formed between them.
"Looks like we've got ourselves another resident at the monastery," Rocky remarked, a smile playing at the corners of his lips. "But I have a feeling this one's going to fit right in."
Mia nodded, her heart filled with gratitude for the opportunity to be a part of something greater than herself. With the wind salamander by her side, she knew that she was ready to face whatever challenges awaited them, together with her friends.
Meanwhile, Nelson watched the scene unfold with a mixture of admiration and anticipation. It was now his turn to bond with a salamander and unlock his elemental power.
" Nelson. Yours is a salamander blue and black." Rocky directed.
Taking a deep breath to steady his nerves, Nelson nodded and approached the swirling mass of creatures, his eyes scanning for any sign of the black and blue salamander that would resonate with his affinity for deception.
After what felt like an eternity, Nelson finally spotted the salamander he had been searching for. It stood out from the rest, its sleek black and blue scales shimmering in the sunlight, a cloak-like pattern adorning its back. With a sense of determination, Nelson approached the creature, his hand outstretched in a gesture of peace.
To his surprise, the black and blue salamander didn't shy away from him. Instead, it regarded him with a knowing gaze, as if it could sense the power that lay dormant within him. With a quick motion, Nelson leaped onto the salamander's back, feeling a surge of energy course through him as their bond was formed.
" Well, now that that's settled, let's go!" Blackie meowed impatiently, hopping onto Mia's salamander.
Mia laughed and urged it on. Nelson did the same. Together, they went onto their quest to find their old master ( Again).
