Chapter 34

The air conditioning in Lloyd's car hummed softly, a welcome contrast to the oppressive heat of Ninjago City. Inside, the ninja team enjoyed a rare moment of normalcy. Cole steered with one hand, occasionally licking a dripping chocolate cone, while Nya munched contentedly on a strawberry-swirl popsicle. Lloyd, navigating with Zane's digital map projected onto the windshield, alternated bites of his mint-chip ice cream with worried glances at his phone.

Suddenly, Jay, who had been unusually quiet throughout the ride, spoke up, his voice laced with disbelief. "This is really weird," he declared, oreos cascading down his shirt from his chocolate ice cream cone.

Everyone looked at him, a mix of amusement and curiosity in their eyes.

"Weird?" Nya echoed, raising an eyebrow. "Weirder than chasing Garmadon in a flamboyant dress through a villain base?"

Jay snorted, wiping a stray oreo from his chin. "Okay, that does take the cake. But I'm talking about the complete lack of updates from Mia and Nelson. They've been radio silent for hours."

Cole, ever the pragmatist, swallowed a large chunk of his ice cream cone. "Relax, Jay. They're trained ninja. They can handle themselves."

"Yeah," Lloyd chimed in, his voice strained. "But they also went off on their own, following some... questionable intel. And this cave they're supposedly exploring sounds pretty creepy, even for Ninjago standards."

Zane, ever the voice of reason, interjected. "We should trust Mia and Nelson's abilities. They've faced worse before. However, I do agree we should attempt to contact them again soon."

Just as Zane finished speaking, Lloyd's phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen, his eyes widening in surprise. "It's... it's from Mia!" he exclaimed, his voice filled with relief.

Everyone leaned forward, anticipation hanging heavy in the air. Lloyd tapped the screen, and a holographic image of Mia flickered to life.

The image, however, wasn't quite what they expected. Mia and Nelson were being very secretive. They were stuttering at every question Zane launched at them.

"Mia, Nelson," Zane said through Falcon. "Where are you? We haven't heard from you in hours."

We're... fine," Mia stammered, trying to sound convincing. "Just taking a... scenic detour."

Nelson, ever the pragmatist, chimed in. "Yeah, the scenery here is... truly breathtaking." He gestured vaguely towards the waterfall, his voice lacking its usual enthusiasm.

Zane, ever perceptive, didn't seem to buy it.  "A scenic detour? Your location doesn't match the planned route. Are you in trouble?"

"Actually, Zane," Nelson said quickly, "we stumbled upon something... interesting. Something we think Master Wu might be interested in."

He threw Mia a pleading look, hoping she'd understand his plan. Mia, catching on, decided to play along.

"Yeah," she chimed in, forcing a smile. "We found something really important. We'll be back soon, but we don't want to spoil the surprise!"

"Very well," Zane finally conceded, though his voice held a hint of doubt. "Just be careful and try to check in soon. We're worried about you."

And with that, the video cut.

" Well, that was intriguing." Lloyd commented, staring at the blank screen.

Just then, Lloyd's phone buzzed. It was Garmadon.

" Ah, maybe dad's found some clue." He thought out loud.

But when the call connected, Lloyd almost dropped the phone. It was a red eye.

" Dad," Lloyd ventured. " You might want to zoom out."

" Zoom out? You're worried about me zooming out when your uncle and friends are in danger?!" Garmadon replied.

Still, he did. And what Lloyd saw now almost made him faint.

Lloyd stared at the holographic image of his now-pink-haired father, mouth agape. The image showed Garmadon in a most uncharacteristic outfit – a flowing blue gown adorned with sparkly purple leggings, his feet crammed into a pair of precariously high heels. Even the fiery red eyes seemed to hold a hint of bewilderment.

"Dad?" Lloyd finally managed, his voice a mere squeak. "What... what happened to you?"

Garmadon scowled, his voice laced with frustration. "Don't ask. Let's just say I stumbled upon a particularly... flamboyant villain and their equally outlandish fashion sense."

Kai, who had been perched on the backseat, leaned forward, eyes wide with barely suppressed laughter. "Flamboyant villain, huh? Sounds like you finally met your match in the fashion department."

Garmadon shot him a withering glare. "This is no laughing matter, Kai. This villain... they call themselves 'Fashion Fiasco,' and they seem to have a rather... unorthodox way of dealing with their enemies."

Nya, ever the voice of practicality, interjected. "So, Fashion Fiasco captured you and... turned you pink?"

Garmadon winced, a faint blush (or perhaps it was just the new hair color) creeping up his neck. "Not exactly captured. More like... inconvenienced. This villain has a strange fascination with garish clothing and seems determined to make everyone their next fashion victim."

Cole, ever the optimist, clapped his hands together. "Well, two problems, one solution! We find Mia and Nelson, and then we all team up to take down this Fashion Fiasco and turn you back to... well, you."

Garmadon scoffed. "Easy for you to say, Cole. Try walking in these ridiculous heels!" He wobbled precariously on the screen, nearly toppling over.

Lloyd, a flicker of amusement battling with his concern, decided to take charge. "Alright, everyone, focus. We have two priorities: finding Mia and Nelson, and rescuing Dad from his... fashion faux pas. Zane, any luck tracking their location?"

Zane, his brow furrowed in concentration, projected a holographic map onto the windshield. "Their last known location seems to be... unusual. It appears to be within the abandoned Ninjago Fashion Institute building."

Jay, ever the conspiracy theorist, piped up. "The abandoned Fashion Institute? That place is rumored to be haunted by the ghosts of fashionistas past! Do you think Fashion Fiasco is hiding out there?"

Nya rolled her eyes. "Don't be ridiculous, Jay. There are no such things as ghosts of fashionistas."

Suddenly, a chilling cackle echoed through the car, sending shivers down everyone's spines. The source? The holographic image of Garmadon, who was now sporting a bright pink feather boa around his neck.

"Speak for yourself, Nya!" he shrieked, his voice laced with a hint of hysteria. "These shoes are pinching my toes, and this boa keeps whispering fashion advice in my ear!"

Lloyd sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. This mission was quickly becoming more bizarre than he ever imagined. "Alright everyone," he declared, his voice firm. "Buckle up. It seems we're heading into the world of high fashion... and maybe a few ghosts."
