"So when are you going to confess?" Namjoon asked, turning the stove off and pulling Jungkook near him by the wrist.
"What?" Jungkook whispered, jerking his hand free.
They were in Yoongi's kitchen, heating the porridge for him. Namjoon felt guilty for being part of Jungkook's plan, so he came with the food delivery. Meanwhile, Yoongi was in his bed with Haeun sitting in the chair by his side to keep him company.
"Since the date's canceled, and she is here, you have the perfect opportunity to tell her how you feel," Namjoon winked and nudged his shoulder with his.
"W-what feelings?" Jungkook brushed him off, "I just didn't want her to go out with a random dude. That's it."
"Oh, so you don't like her? You mean you wouldn't mind if she goes out with someone you know instead of a random dude?" Namjoon asked, mentally tired of his friend's stubbornness.
"What do you mean?" Jungkook looked like a deer caught in the headlights.
"You know what I mean," Namjoon chuckled, "the great Jeon Jungkook's master plan failed to ensure your friend doesn't end up dating your member."
"Wait!" Jungkook facepalmed, "There's no way she and Yoongi hyung-"
"Aren't you seeing what I'm seeing?" Namjoon interrupted. Both their eyes landed inside Yoongi's room, watching him laugh along with Haeun over something.
"Shoot," Jungkook stomped his foot in realization.
"It's about time you man up and face your honest feelings," he put a hand on his shoulder, "tell her about it, and then let her make the decision."
_______
Another crime fell heavily on Namjoon's shoulder of separating the two people who were quite into their conversation. "Haeun, can I have hyung for a moment? Need to discuss some work."
"Sure," she was just as nice and smiley as usual.
"You can help Kookie in the kitchen." And she went. What was left was a glare coming his way from his sick friend.
"This better be important," Yoongi said, still in distaste over the interruption.
"On second thought, you're sick. I shouldn't bring work here," Namjoon nervously rubbed his arms.
"Seriously?" Yoongi eyed him head to toe, "Learn to read the room, will you? We were hitting off so well! Isn't that great?"
Namjoon met his eyes, giving an unsuccessful nod of his head.
"Wait," Yoongi's eyes flew wide open," don't tell me — Kook likes her?!"
Namjoon scratched his neck, admiring the floor. "Something like that."
First, he joined his evil member on his evil plan to get his other member sick, and now he's disappointing the heart of that sick member.
A wise human, indeed. Namjoon mocked himself.
"Goodness, when were you planning to tell me this?" Yoongi sighed in relief, "so is the kid going to make a move or not?"
"Hopefully he will. Or else all this will go to waste," Namjoon said, gesturing at Yoongi with both of his hands.
"All this?" Yoongi slowly fell in realization, gaining more confirmation by seeing the horror on Namjoon's face and the way he covered his mouth instantly, "Kim Namjoon. Spill everything. Right now."
________
Jungkook rubbed his hair, pushed it back and forth, and combed his fingers through it. Haeun wasn't a stranger to him being nervous or shy about something.
"Stop touching your hair," she commanded. Her focus was mainly on making the coffee, but she could tell Jungkook was up to something.
He cleared his throat. "Thank you for today- and sorry," he audibly gulped.
"No worries," she waved him off, "at first I was kind of mad, but then it was great spending time with Yoongi today."
"Yeah?" Jungkook mentally cursed himself for not predicting this, "Yoongi hyung's nice."
What else he's supposed to say? Maybe he should've had Namjoon write a script for this.
"Uh, Haeun?" She spun around to face him, hair flew back from the wind. The ladle was still in her hands as she waited for him to speak.
Now or never, is it?
"Jeon- you little!" he heard the shouts from the other room.
Uh oh.
Jungkook had already slammed the door open, collecting his bag, and running for his life. Right then a shoe flew past his head, and then another which he successfully dodged.
Yoongi had picked up the vase nearby. Target Jungkook locked.
"Hyung!-"
"You got me a fever and cold just so you could cancel a date! And then had the audacity to use me as bait for her?!"
"I'm sorry! Let me explain-"
"What's going on?" It was Haeun who rushed her way from the kitchen, taking the vase from Yoongi's hand out of concern for their safety. "What do you mean he used you as a bait?"
Yoongi stilled, looking at Jungkook who was just as frozen in guilt. When they both failed to give her an answer, she left, slamming the door behind.
"Sheesh, quite messed up, eh?" Namjoon stood on the stairs watching the scene unfold.
_______
"She has a date with him in an hour and is ignoring my calls and texts!" Jungkook whined, cleaning up Yoongi's dishes as part of his punishment. He was to do this for 2 weeks and then Namjoon would take over.
"Not like you don't deserve it," Yoongi mumbled.
"You're doomed, boy," Namjoon added.
"You're not helping, you know?" Jungkook groaned.
"You want advice? Let her enjoy their date and then go to her house tomorrow like a decent person and apologize. Tell her everything truthfully," Yoongi said, shaking his head in annoyance.
"And watch her bury me alive? " Jungkook dramatically shivered, "If I'm going to take that risk then why wait until tomorrow?
"Jeon Jungkook!"
"You know what? I have a plan," he grinned, bouncing on the couch between them.
Namjoon and Yoongi both groaned at the same time. "No. No. No."
Well, isn't there a saying about the youngest child always getting what he wants?
________
"I won't be able to wash my hands off of this sin," Yoongi said with his eyes closed.
Jungkook scoffed. "And you all call me dramatic." They were in the car, on the way to give life to Jungkook's master plan.
"I used to think Tae was the getting-into-trouble-type," Namjoon confessed.
"Nah, that kid makes me feel so proud these days," Yoongi wiped his nonexistent tears.
"How come you spend so much time with Jimin but don't take after him?" Namjoon questioned, seriously concerned.
"I spent much time with Jin hyung too!" Jungkook innocently added.
Namjoon and Yoongi quietly looked into each other eyes.
"How do you know their location by the way?" Namjoon questioned.
"Connections," Jungkook smirked, waving his phone.
_______
There she was. Beautiful in a white skirt and top just like the first time he met her in a Café. She was fiddling with her fingers, probably nervous to meet her date. He wanted to capture the moment in a picture to keep it with him all the time.
"Haeun," he softly called her name, not missing the way her eyes widened after seeing him there.
"What are you doing here?" she stood up, "leave Jungkook. I don't want to talk to you."
"Haeun-ah Please!" he knew even in her anger she wouldn't just send him away without listening to his explanation, "I can explain."
"I'm only listening to you because my date is late. You have time until he arrives," she said, taking the seat again.
Oh, that's been taken care of, he thought.
"Thanks," he took the seat, "about last time, I'm sorry. It was foolish of me to do that. It is just that I like you a lot, and I couldn't bear the thought of you going out with someone else."
She watched him confess with a shock lacing her eyes. He again gulped down the nervousness and continued. "I was afraid that I would lose you to him if I let you go on that date. I should've confessed earlier, but I couldn't risk losing our friendship. You know, I don't make the wisest decisions sometimes?"
A smile rose on the corners of her lips. "All the time," she corrected.
He smiled, a little embarrassed. "Do you forgive me?"
"I'm scared you would do something foolish again If I don't," she said with a shake of her head, smiling.
He rubbed his neck. "Yeah, probably I would. Anything for you."
"Told you not to watch those cringy movies," she laughed, hiding her face in her hands. He didn't miss the way her cheeks were flushed red. He wondered if he mirrored the same.
"So-"
"I like you too," she said, still hiding behind her hands. He pulled them down from her face, holding them in his.
"Man, I really should've confessed earlier," he admitted, smiling ear-to-ear.
"At least you did now, courtesy of my date being so not punctual," she giggled.
"Oh right," he checked his phone before looking up at her apologetically, "he's in the hospital."
"What?!" she visibly freaked out, rising to her feet once again, "Jeon Jungkook!"
"He's fine — he's fine," he tried calming her down, "he's taken Namjoon hyung to the hospital."
Her eyes were the same wide. "What happened to Namjoon?"
Jungkook rubbed his neck, enough indication for Haeun to understand what was going on.
She slumped down the seat again. "Explain."
"Well. Since I wanted to talk to you, and I thought he would steal you away from me, I had to stop this date from happening. Therefore, Yoongi hyung and Namjoon hyung helped me keep him occupied until I could confess to you. Joon hyung faked injuring his shoulder after bumping into your date, and now they are in the hospital."
"What the heck?" she facepalmed.
"My master plan?" He suggested, a mischievous grin still lingering around his mouth.
"No! Stupidity." She caressed her forehead in frustration, "Poor guy, must be so stressed out."
"I did read about people doing stupid things in love-" Jungkook mumbled.
"Seriously?" if eyes could burn, Jungkook would be ashes.
"But you still like me, don't you?"
"Goodness, Jungkook you are so-"
"Handsome? Cute? Smart?"
She sighed. "Now, what do we do about him?"
"Fret not. My partners will take care of that."
And that's how it went.
Jungkook was sure the giggles that left their lips while watching an animated movie while devouring the pizza at his place, would compensate for all the stupidity he showed this week. After all, people do a bit of stupid things after falling in love. Perhaps, he should've done it sooner.
