Chapter 22
Something about a night sky full of stars without clouds blocking the view set (y/n)'s mind at ease. He couldn't sleep. There was too much going on for him to just rest. His racing thoughts wouldn't allow it.
"Catching a break while you can?" Masuda approached the place in the grassy field where (y/n) sat. Setanta was following close behind him with drowsiness clinging to his eyes. (Y/n) was pretty sure servants didn't require sleep, so he wondered why Setanta suddenly looked so exhausted.
"I'm still taking everything in." (Y/n) looked down at the back of his hand. His command seals weren't glowing, but he could still clearly see the imprint of the symbols. "If everything is true, then I might be assisting in the end of the mage world. I can't tell if that's a good or bad thing." There wasn't much (y/n) could really determine about mages. They were either good or bad. A majority of them were just human, imperfect beings that lived their lives as they thought they should. (Y/n) felt as though he could neither relate to them nor judge them since he himself, despite being a mage, was not human. He didn't really know what he was if he was being honest.
"I think you still have plenty of time to figure that out." Masuda sat in the grass next to him. "You seem pretty smart despite your age. I'm sure you'll have this all sorted out the next time we meet. Maybe even before then."
"Next time huh..." (y/n) mumbled. He'd almost forgotten that this is where Masuda would be leaving them. It had already been discussed before everyone went to sleep. Gray was going to relay the information she gained about Caren's servant summoning to her mentor Lord El Melloi II. In addition, Caren would take in Caules, Fiore, El Melloi II, and Gray herself until the situation got better for them. The only condition for this deal was that (y/n) visit as often as he could to give Caren intel about Ritsuka, the master from Chaldea.
Setanta flopped into the grass in front of them and rolled onto his back to look at the sky. "I don't know, Masuda. I'm getting the feeling that time is running short. Seems like the holy church is going to make a move soon. Master wouldn't have told them everything right then and there if we had more time."
"So you were actually paying attention during the meeting," Masuda mused.
The blue haired boy narrowed his eyes at the young Ruler. "Of course I was. I told you, Master never tells me much of anything. Doesn't mean I don't pay attention when she speaks. In almost every sense, I'm pretty much her guard dog." Setanta reached up towards the sky with his left hand. "It kind of annoys me, but its an easy job and I get to do what I want when no one's trespassing." His hand closed around a star. "Master said that when she leaves this world, she'll break our pacts and set us free. I think she's crazy since setting Jack free would be a serious problem, but I won't sweat the details."
"You seem to have a very care free life," (y/n) observed.
"You think so too, yeah?" The light in his eyes dulled. "Kind of feels unreal sometimes, ya know?"
The trio sat there for a moment without exchanging any words, but they all understood that they were about to face serious problems in the near future. (Y/n) already had so much to worry about. His adoptive mother was a major suspect in both his past and the current problem with Ritsuka. His most trusted servant, Gilgamesh, was not himself. His mind was still elsewhere thanks to Caren's removal of the clairvoyance restriction. Then there was the cryptic message he got from Fou which already lined up with the current problem at hand.
"Chaldea. Sheba. Antarctica," (y/n) remembered. He now had a familiarity with Chaldea, but he needed to know what Sheba and Antarctica meant. "I need to talk to Fou again. I need answers." His mind wandered to the first servant that Caren summoned. Galahad would have answers, wouldn't he? "Do you know where Galahad is? I want to talk to him before I leave tomorrow. It's important."
"He won't talk about Chaldea if that's what you're going to ask him," Setanta immediately said. (Y/n) flinched at the sudden change in Setanta's tone. "He hates talking about it. Master forced that information out of him. You'll lose his trust if you go ask him now."
"But it's important. He could be the only one that knows," (y/n) reasoned.
Setanta shook his head. "He'll tell you eventually, I'm sure. He isn't cruel like Master. Just take what you have for now. It'll only make things worse if you get too much information at once." Masuda nodded in agreement. Although (y/n) wanted to ask anyway, he sighed and accepted Setanta's suggestion.
These past few days were going to be some of the most unforgettable experiences in his life. Looking ahead in the future brought him a bit of anxiety, so he decided to focus on the present. He had some new allies and potential friends. Though he had only lived for a little over five years, he felt as though it had been longer. The sky seemed to be glittering with stars a little brighter than usual. Even the moon seemed a bit fuzzy.
"It's getting late. Maybe I should try to get some sleep afterall," (y/n) decided. He stood up and squinted at the moon once again trying to figure out why it was growing hazy.
"(Y/n)!!" Masuda lept forward to break the boy's fall, but it was Setanta who actually stopped (y/n) from crashing to the ground.
"Huh?" Everything had spun into a blur. "Why can't I move...?"
"His nose is bleeding! Do something Masuda! Aren't you the Ruler? Don't you know some sort of saint magic??"
"Shut up and give me a second!" A bright light blocked the rest of (y/n)'s sight. Masuda's healing noble phantasm had no effect on (y/n)'s condition. "Quick, go get his servant!"
"The wolf is already here! Ah you mean- right the blonde." Setanta handed (y/n) over to Masuda as carefully as he could.
"Hey, can you hear me? Are you able to say anything?" Masuda asked him. No thoughts could be formed to answer the question. Masuda's words began to fade into nothing but noise.
"Not again. It won't happen again!" That voice was not (y/n)'s. Though he knew who's voice it was, (y/n) suddenly could not recall their name. Everything had began to shut down within him leaving him unable to fight against what was happening to him. In every sense except literal, (y/n) was dead.
