Anyone could tell by looking at him that he was no normal child. The way he would stand there blankly starring and watching your every move implied that he was sharp in mind. In truth, he was only afraid. If one knew the circumstances of his birth, they would understand why he was so wary of anyone that was not his current servant. His name is (y/n), and he is the only master of Tokugawa.
The world of mages was all but a secret from the world, though there were strick rules concerning how much of it could be exposed to the outside world. Normal people only knew of special individuals who showed up to stop supernatural occurrences, and that was all there was to their definition of a mage. If it were that simple, (y/n)'s existence could have been avoided entirely.
The rules forbid a number of powerful mystics from being learned or even used by anyone qualified to be a mage. Not every individual had the magic circuits fit for the title afterall. Even so, those who did made up a large fraction of the world's population. This is where the Mage's Association and the Holy Church came into play. The Association regulated a majority of mages and the extent of their capabilities allowing them to grow their skills as long as they did not break any codes of conduct regarding the forbidden techniques. The Holy Church was entirely against the idea of mages believing that the power available to them was not to be tampered with. These two were enemies who did not cooperate under any circumstances, but this difference did not lead to Tokugawa's creation.
No, it was the Association that took action against their own mages. These said mages were not satisfied with their capabilities being limited by laws, so they rebelled and used whatever magecraft they wished even if it was forbidden. The number of these mages grew rapidly along with those who used their newfound power in harmful ways. The Association attempted to stop the chaos only to lose the battle. Their own mages were no match for those who had broken the codes. It did not help that the Holy Church was enemy to all mages, not hesitating to kill any of them should they be proven to possess magic ability.
Then, a year before (y/n)'s birth, a man whose orgins were not even clear to the Mage's Association appeared before them with a plausible solution. He would break just one of the Association's codes, to summon a heroic spirit, in order to rid them of their troubles for good. Having been left with little to no option, the proposal from this mysterious man was accepted, and he was given anything he asked for in return of producing results once preparations were completed.
And just a day over a year later is where (y/n) found himself waking up after being removed from his incubator of sorts. His birth mother was a mystery to him. The only thing he would be able to recognize from her was her hair and aura. His father was far more of a mystery since he had never known him. So he awoke in confusion having no memory other than warmth, safety, fragments of his mother's identity. He did not know the individual that pulled him from the comfort of his capsule. He was not familiar with the pain of being carelessly dragged to a new location. The light was too bright to allow him much vision and the air was cold against his skin.
"It's just a homunculus. It'll feel no pain. This one better not fail." He could not understand the meaning of those words, but he heard them just as he was tossed to the ground. Desperate to find his sense of security once more, he felt along the floor searching for something, someone to cling to. And then the servant summoning began.
Unbeknownst to the child who had only truly just began to exist, he lay in the center of a summoning circle as its catalyst. A ring of spherical lights rose at the circle's edges and began to rotate around him just as his eyes had adjusted to his surroundings. His saw someone standing behind a glass window. Their returned stare was empty as the man's eyes peered into the boy's soul. (Y/n) failed to take notice of the rotating spheres which had began to spin so quickly that they merged together. They gave off a sudden heat, snapping the boy's attention to them in the very instant that they grew to engulf him.
The ring grew to a pillar that shrank to the center of the circle where (y/n) lay. The heat seared everything it got hold of. The light's brightness was the only thing that saved his eyes from being melted from their sockets as he had to close them before the heated pillar surrounded him. His outcry did not go unheard by those running this operation. They had not expected the golden sparks which (y/n) had never even noticed. They didn't think a servant would actually appear before them even if that was their goal. They'd gone into this form of abuse with the full intention of letting (y/n) die at the hands of another failed heroic spirit summoning...and yet there he stood right in front of where (y/n) lay half dead on the previously pure white tiled floor.
"A mere mortal dares to summon me?" That voice was mocking him, but none of that registered in (y/n)'s mind. He was just barely able to keep himself concious. Only by mere instinct did he use every ounce of strength he had left to pull himself to this nearby individual. (Y/n) rested only once his hands had wrapped around this new arrival's armored leg. The golden armor was cool to the touch, soothing the burns that came in contact with it. "And you have the audacity to touch me without permission!"
The man speaking hadn't even noticed (y/n) was a living being until then. The very moment he glanced down at him, the backs of (y/n)'s hands began to glow a crimson red. Upon closer inspection, one would be able to tell that it was the boy's blood that was creating this effect. In truth, the symbols being created under the unnatural light weren't red at all, and this became apparent as (y/n)'s wounds began to heal themselves. Even when the healing made a considerable change in his state of being, (y/n) refused to let this servant go.
"State your name and class." The person who initially dragged (y/n) into this secluded room spoke to the summoned servant, yet was given no answer. "Did you not hear your master speaking to you? This is an order. Tell me your name and class," he repeated. Again, he wasn't even given the time of day.
"Do you speak, child?" The servant was referring to (y/n) who was still shaking from the trauma he had just experienced. "Tell me, why do you think it is appropriate for you to cower here like this? Are you not the one who called me here?"
"You're mistaken. That is a homunculus. I am your master, the one who called you here," the first man rose his voice a bit as he spoke.
"Silence, mongrel! If you speak out of turn again, I'll have your head! You should know not to speak to your king that way." Yes, this heroic spirit was none other than the King of Heroes and ruler of Uruk, Gilgamesh. "Answer me, child." He had taken interest in the obvious power coming from the cyan markings on this child's hands, (y/n)'s hands.
"Allow me to speak on his behalf. I am the director here in this facility," another individual said as he entered the room through a panel near the window. The person Gilgamesh had threatened was quick to retreat through the open panel door. "He is incapable of answering you. We've just awaken him from a deep sleep and he hasn't gained all of his cognitive abilities as of yet. Our intention wasn't for him to be your master, but it seems that's now beyond our control."
"So you did that to him then. Very well. I will excuse you since you have provided me with answers, but you are to leave this room this instant," Gilgamesh spoke.
"I'm afraid I can't do that. Although that is your master, I am the one that both of you answer to. Originally, it was expected that this homunculus die upon your summoning. I can't consider this a success even if it did produce results. The Association would not take kindly to a homunculus leading the missions here at Tokugawa," the director explained. Gilgamesh's sharp gaze met the director's empty one.
"You will not lay a hand on this child. Should you be bold enough to try it..." golden portals appeared behind the king.
"Defending that homunculus' life isn't an option for you," the director retorted as sparks crackled around his hands. He could care less who this servant was or whether or not he offended him. However, neither of them made a move since a different source of power distracted them from their potential fight. (Y/n), who had quietly been clinging to Gilgamesh's leg, finally spoke up.
"Where's...my mom?" he whimpered in no more than a four year old's voice. His intelligence was on a high level despite a newborn being the closest age level he classified as. "Where?"
On an extremely rare whim, Gilgamesh decided to extend his limited mercy to the boy. Keeping the Gate of Babylon open and aimed at the director, he reached down to pull (y/n) off of him. Of course, the king was met with opposition since his master was still fear striken. "Can you not see that I am giving you my aid? Let go or I'll change my mind," Gilgamesh warned. Once the child was safely in his arms, he faced the director again who had been watching in disinterest. "I have chosen to pass my time here, do not think that you have gotten your way. Now, tell me of this place that you call Tokugawa," Gilgamesh ordered.
"That homunculus..." the director began.
"This child has nothing to do with you doing as I have commanded. Should you ask again, I will not be so kind as to pardon you. This will be the last that I repeat myself. Tell me what this Tokugawa is." Gilgamesh kept his glare on the director waiting for his answers. (Y/n) had chosen to keep quiet once he realized that he was safe for the time being, and it was from there that his perilous life involving Tokugawa began.
