Chapter Twelve - Nelvaan
As the Republic Frigate jumped out of Hyperspace, the frigate was forced to land in the Nelvaan System to conduct repairs on the frigate. The Clone Commander met up with K'Kruhk and the other Jedi.
Clone Commander: Bad news, General. The frigate got damaged during the escape. The communication systems are fried. It's going to take some time to get it restored.
K'Kruhk: We must practice caution. This planet is mostly unexplored.
Clone Commander: It's not just that. We managed to run some scans on the system. We've detected no enemy forces in the area, just some strange geothermal readings nearby.
Eri: We should check it out.
K'Kruhk took a moment to consider his options. It didn't take long for him to come to a decision.
K;Kruhk: Commander, gather a small group of your finest men. We will investigate these geothermal signatures. The rest of your men will stay with the ship to finish the repairs.
Clone Commander: Understood, General.
As Clone Commander left to gather the group, Eri spoke with K'Kruhk.
Eri: What about me, Master?
K'Kruhk: You will be accompanying me.
Katooni: What about us?
K'Kruhk: Your offer is appreciated, but I must decline. You will be safer back in the ship.
Petro: But we can help! You yourself said that this planet is mostly unexplored! More Lightsabers wouldn't hurt!
Eri: I have to agree with Petro, Master K'Kruhk. Even with the commander and a couple of other Clones, we don't know what's out there.
As Eri made the case to K'Kruhk, the Whiphid Jedi Master took a moment to consider this. While he felt that the Kybuck Clan were better off staying at the frigate, he was also well aware that the danger could very well be anywhere.
K'Kruhk: Very well, Eri. You will be in charge of them.
Eri: Understood, master.
With that, K'Kruhk took Eri and the Kybuck Clan to explore the snow covered forests of Nelvaan. Joining them was the Clone Commander and a small group of Clone Troopers.
Clone Commander: Keep your eyes peeled, boys. Don't let anything get the drop on you.
Clone Troopers: Sir, yes sir!
As the Jedi and Clone Troopers continued the trek through the forest, Vres looked around to see the various wildlife scurrying away.
Erii: Something's startling these creatures.
K'Kruhk: And it's not us.
Erii: I...I feel it....
K'Kruhk: A disturbance in the Force. Keep your guard up.
Suddenly, the ground beneath them began to rumble. The Kybuck Clan and Mordecai readied their Lightsabers while the Clone Rangers readied their blasters. Suddenly, a large Horax burst from the ground and attacked the group. The Clone Commander and the Clone Troopers began firing at the Horax, but the Horax attacks the Clones, killing a few of them.
Eri: We have to stop that creature!
Petro: Let's take that thing down!
K'Kruhk: Eri! Petro! Wait!
Without hesitation, Eri and Petro lunged at the Horax and began attacking it with their Lightsabers. K'Kruhk felt something was off. As the two Jedi got on top of the Horax's head, they plunged their Lightsabers despite K'Kruhk's warnings. As the Horax fell dead, Eri and Petro approached K'Kruhk and the rest of the Kybuck Clan.
Petro: Piece of cake!
As Petro said this, he and Eri were both approached by K'Kruhk who had a disappointed expression on his face.
Eri: What's wrong, Master?
K'Kruhk: You two shouldn't have done that.
K'Kruhk then points to a group of canine-muzzled humanoids wearing tribal clothing. One appeared to be a young boy who threw his spear to the ground in frustration. The leader of the group was a woman.
Katooni: I think you angered them, Petro.
Petro: That thing attacked us! We had to defend ourselves!
The woman approached Petro with a furious look on her face. K'Kruhk stepped in and nodded her head respectfully, attempting to defuse the situation.
K'Kruhk: We apologize for our intrusion. We meant no harm to you and your people. We've come here seeking shelter.
The woman paused for a moment. As K'Kruhk negotiated with the Nelvaanian woman, the rest of the Kybuck Clan spoke with Erii and Petro.
Zatt: I think we might be in trouble.
Petro: We've been in tighter situations, Zatt. We'll be fine.
Eri: Whatever we did, we offended these people.
Gungi: <It seems like that boy was participating in some kind of ritual. Maybe a rite of passage.>
As the Kybuck Clan talked amongst themselves, they were approached by the Clone Commander who holding a wounded Clone Trooper.
Eri: Are you all right?
Clone Trooper: I'll be fine, kid. I've been through worse. Remember that group of Super Battle Droids? Now that was a fire show.
Clone Commander: Easy there, trooper. That creature banged you up good. Get yourself some Bacta.
Clone Trooper: On it, sir.
As the Clone Trooper began applying some Bacta on himself, the Clone Commander looked to Clone Medic who was tending to some wounded Clone Troopers. The Commander also saw the lifeless bodies of the Clone Troopers killed by the Horax. As the Clone Commander took a moment to mourn the loss of his brothers, K'Kruhk approached the group.
Clone Commander: Any problems, General?
K'Kruhk: The good news is that they won't kill us. However, they've asked us to follow them to their camp.
Katooni: What for, Master K'Kruhk?
K'Kruhk: I am not sure, young Katooni. But we will respect their wishes. For now, they are not hostile. That is why we must be respectful to them and their customs.
Katooni: We understand, Master K'Kruhk.
With that, K'Kruhk along with Eri, the Kybuck Clan and the Clone Troopers followed the Nelvaanians to a pack of white furred Bantha. They then got on the Bantha and began riding them to their village. What the Jedi didn't know was that they would soon stumble upon a sinister plot by the Separatists that threatened the people of Nelvaan.
