Chapter Thirteen - Holt Kazed

After encountering the Nelvaanians, the Jedi and the Clone Troopers followed them to their village. As they entered the camp, there was something off about the village.

Katooni: I...I sense pain.... misery....

K'Kruhk: I sense it too.

As the departed from the Bathas, Eri noticed something strange about the village as the native Nelvaanians stared at them.

Eri: Master....

K'Kruhk: I know. There are only women and children.

Soon enough, the Nelvaanians escorted the Jedi to a tent in the village while the Clones waited outside. The woman they encountered, who was revealed to be the village's chieftain, introduced an elderly Nelvaanian male. As the Jedi sat down, she began to speak to the shaman in her native language. Eri and the Kybuck Clan had no idea what they were saying.

K'Kruhk: Eri, it seems you and Petro interrupted the boy's rite of passage.

Eri: How do you know what they're saying?

K'Kruhk: When you travel the Galaxy with Master Lilit Twoseas, you tend to learn a few things along the way.

The Nelvaanian chieftain continued to speak to the shaman while K'Kruhk translates what she says.

K'Kruhk: Something plagues their land. Champion after champion have been sent out, yet none have returned. They were choosing another one when you intervened.

As the chieftain pleaded to the shaman, the shaman spoke in a low voice. Even K'Kruhk was confused by the shaman's words.

K'Kruhk: I'm not sure if I'm hearing this right. It seems you have to journey into fire.

Petro: What?! What's that supposed to mean?!

Katooni: Calm down, Petro. You don't want to anger these people anymore than we already have. Something's....something's terribly wrong here.

Later that night, the Nelvaanian shaman along with the other village leaders gathered the Jedi along with the Clones around a campfire. The shaman then began to speak in his language.

Eri: What's he saying now?

K'Kruhk: There's summoning the spirit of the fire. The Mother weeps. She is sick. Our warriors have failed....failed to heal the Mother. Into the never-ending winter, strangers shall come. Tell us why they come. What is their purpose?

The shaman then places several herbs into the fire which enlarges it. The smoke from the fire then forms into what appeared to be a hand. The shaman then looks to the smoke.

Nelvaanian Shaman: Holt Kazed....

Zatt: Holt Kazed?

Ganodi: What does it mean?

K'Kruhk: I...I believe it means....Ghost Hand?

In that moment, it all made sense to K'Kruhk. Their ability to use the Force effectively had given then ghost hands in the eyes of the Nelvaanians.

Vres: Holt Kazed! Holt Kazed!

Eri: What's going on?!

K'Kruhk: It seems the Force has brought us here for a reason. We have been tasked by the Force to bring peace to this world.

Gungi: <How are we supposed to do that?>

K'Kruhk began speaking to the shaman in the language of the Nelvaanians. As she asked for their purpose, the shaman speaks.

K'Kruhk: We must follow the wind for it is the Mother's cry. Travel her tears. They are frozen with fear. Enter the Mother's mouth to awaken her inner flame.

Eri and the Kybuck Clan were puzzled by the shaman's words.

Katooni: How do we accomplish this?

K'Kruhk: We must follow the wind. It will guide us to where we need to go.

Petro: This keeps getting weirder and weirder.

K'Kruhk: Commander, take your men back to the ship. Inform the men that we will be....delayed for the time being.

Clone Commander: Copy that. You sure you don't want us to tag along, General? Sounds like you're about to walk into something big.

K'Kruhk: This is something we must do ourselves. You cannot help us here.

With that, the Jedi began to prepare for the journey. Though they were confused as to the true nature of this journey, K'Kruhk trusted in the Force.

Eri: Master, do you think this...never-ending winter has something to do with the geothermal readings?

K'Kruhk: At this point, anything is possible. What we know for a fact is that the Force sent us here for a reason. I can feel the planet's suffering as Katooni had. Something terrible is happening. Whether this is the Separatists or not, we must press on.

Byph: <Master K'Kruhk, what do you think we'll find out here?>

K'Kruhk: I do not know. But it is our duty to find out what it is and heal this world.

Katooni: What I don't understand is what happened to the men of the village?

Petro: That shaman did say that they failed to...heal the Mother. Maybe they got killed.

Katooni: But I didn't see a burial site or at the very least some kind of funeral pyre.

Zatt: What are you saying, Katooni?

Katooni: I...I think something happened.....and it's still happening. I can...

K'Kruhk took note of Katooni's words. He was impressed at how advanced Katooni's foresight was. Even K'Kruhk himself was unable to sense it so clearly. Soon enough, the Jedi had gathered all the necessary equipment for the journey. As they got on some white furred Banthas, K'Kruhk spoke to his Padawan and the Kybuck Clan.

K'Kruhk: The journey ahead will not be easy. But we will overcome it as long as we trust in the Force.

With that, Eri and the Kybuck Clan prepared for the journey ahead. The Nelvaanians watched that the Jedi rode away from their village with the intention of ending the never-ending winter that has plagued their world. In their eyes, the Jedi or the Holt Kazed were their only hope. Just as the Jedi had put their trust in the Force, the Nelvaanians put their faith in the Mother.
