CHAPTER 17: TOMORROW

Dawn sky ripped itself apart to let sun rise and shine wistfully.

Will Cordova quietly stumbled into the guest house where he was living currently. He received a careless eye roll from the lady at the counter, too busy in her movie to see who had come in.

He walked two floors like a dead man and unlocked the wooden front door of his tiny room with a high-pitched sound of the key chains clinging together. Stepping into the blackness of a room with grey-white beams of dull light of a nearby fluctuating streetlight entering it, he evinced the existence of an emotion other than gloom and of exhaustion.

It was of pain.

And of being hurt.

And of being hopeless.

He pushed away the thought of visiting his parents. Perhaps Kingdom of Spain laid in await for him to return tomorrow and get married to Daniela the following month. Perhaps that's what the people wanted--for the Duke's son to finally return from his foreign studies (This was the excuse the Kingdom had made for Will's sudden disappearance). But sure as hell that wasn't what he wanted.

He thought about Daniela. Was Daniela still unmarried? Did she still get taunted for having not one but two engagements called off? Was she even alive? Even though Will cared about Daniela, he wouldn't marry her. He couldn't marry her.

He dropped himself on the couch and looked above. The ceiling was leaking. Of course it was raining. After all it was London—all seasons in one day. He could heard the rainwater drip drop by drop.  It sounded somewhat like a ticking clock in a ghostly room. It didn't comfort him more that it terrified him. Tomorrow he was to make a decision that he'd either be glad over or repent for the rest of his life. He swallowed and closed his eyes while the sound continued to resonate in his ears.
