F I V E
That night, I did my usual
busking in Myeongdang. I was a little off today because the fact that Jinyoung knew that it was me made me a lot less confident.
I finished early since I wasn't feeling the greatest, my head hurt like nuts and I felt extremely cold.
I waved people goodbye, until only Jinyoung was left waiting, and wearing that big smile of his like usual.
"Naeuniee~" He called.
I waved at him.
"Good job today like always." Jinyoung said.
"Thanks." I coughed and shivered.
"Are you cold?" He asked. "You're only wearing a hoodie in the middle of winter!"
I shrugged. "I'm fine-" I coughed again.
Jinyoung took off his big jacket and gave it to me. I stared at it.
"No, no it's okay." I said.
"Stop not letting me help you!" He said.
I sighed and put it on. The jacket even smelled like him (how lovely). I sat down and drank some water.
"You don't look okay." Jinyoung said, sitting down next to me.
"It'll go away after a good nights sleep." I said.
"Or it could get worse. It's really cold, if you sleep outside you could get hypothermia--it's like how people say if you sleep in an igloo or the mountains you could die in your sleep, it's just like that!" Jinyoung rambled on about how you could easily die if you're cold.
I waved his chatter away. "I've done this plenty of times before, I'm fine!"
"I refuse to let you sleep out here by yourself."
"Well I am." I said, setting up my sleeping bag on the ground.
"Fine, then I'll just sit here the entire night watching over you." Jinyoung replied stubbornly.
"Jinyoungggg~" I whined. "Just go home!"
"No. I'll gather wood somewhere and even build a fire for you." He said, serious or not.
I let out a heavy sigh and stared at him, initiating a staring battle.
"You're going home with me." Jinyoung said.
My cheeks burned at his comment. "I refuse."
"Why? My grandma isn't scary at all, I promise!"
"But you are!!"
"There's nothing scary about me!"
I stuck out my bottom lip.
Jinyoung pulled on my arm. "C'mon, only for a night, and once you're back to 100% you can go back to doing whatever you want."
I sighed. "...fine."
Jinyoung nodded in satisfaction as I gathered my stuff. He even carried my bag for me on the way back, ignoring my refusals.
The more I walked, the more I realized how sick I felt. Would I have died if I didn't go with him?
"You don't have to feel bad at all." Jinyoung said. "My grandma said she wanted to meet you."
"Your grandma knows about me?!" I asked.
"I might've told her..."
"She's gonna think I'm some crazy homeless kid that her grandson decided to bring home." I said.
"Don't worry about it." He said.
"Honestly, how can I pay you back? For like, everything you've done??" I asked.
Jinyoung shrugged. "There's no need to. It's not like you made me help you, I helped you because I wanted to. We're here."
I watched as Jinyoung opened the cafe with his keys and held the door open for me as I entered.
We quietly walked upstairs, and I was surprised at how big it was. In the kitchen, was an old lady wearing an apron and chopping some onions by herself.
"Aigoo...where is that little twerp...leaving me to cry while cutting onions by myself..." She said under her breath.
"Hi grandma." Jinyoung said.
Jinyoung's grandma turned around, and her eyes widened when she saw me. She pointed the knife at her grandson. "Where have you been?"
"I was with her." He pointed to me, earning a glare from me.
His grandma's eyes softened. "Is this the girl you always talk about?"
He nodded quickly. I bowed and greeted her.
"Sorry for suddenly entering your home..." I muttered, holding back coughs.
"She's sick, grandma. Can she stay for the night?" He asked.
Jinyoung's grandma looked at me. "Let me see your face."
I pulled down my mask and hoodie.
"What a pretty girl!!" She squealed. "Now I see why he likes you so much..."
"Grandma!!" Jinyoung said.
"Haha..." I laughed nervously and eyed Jinyoung.
"Sit down, sit down!" She ushered me to the couch. I sat down on the comfy couch and let out a few coughs.
"Have you eaten yet?" She asked.
I shook my head. "I'm fine though..."
"No no, you cannot drink medicine on an empty stomach. Jinyoung, go make some food!" Jinyoung's grandma ordered.
"Will do." He said, running off.
"You shouldn't be sleeping on the streets in this weather. I'm glad he took you home, turns out that little twerp can do something useful for once..." Mrs. Woo said.
I chuckled. "He's done a lot for me, actually. I didn't want to come and bother you, but he insisted."
"As he should." She said, pouring some tea. "So you dance, correct?"
I nodded.
"Jinyoung is a trainee at HappyFace Entertainment."
I nodded again. "He's very talented."
"I like to think so too." She said. "I heard that you're very talented from him as well. Every night he goes out just to watch you, and then comes home talking about it alllll night long."
"GRANDMA!! Stop gossiping about me!!" Jinyoung yelled from the kitchen.
"Oops." His grandma snickered.
I laughed. Does he really?
"I can tell you're a lovely girl, so you're welcome here anytime. Living on the streets this young must be terrible."
"It's not really terrible..." I said. "But thank you so much. I see where your grandson gets his kindness from."
"It makes me very sad to see kids like you suffering so much." She said.
"I'm done!!" Jinyoung yelled.
We made our way into the kitchen, and on it we're plates of vegetables and meat.
"They're leftovers, so I hope you can eat it." Jinyoung said.
"Son, you couldn't make some fresh food for the young lady??" Mrs. Woo scolded.
Jinyoung raised both of his hands in the air. "It's not like I can with only a bottle of soy sauce in the kitchen!!"
I laughed. "I've been living off of your bread downstairs so this is more than enough."
"Eat as much as you want sweetie." Jinyoung's grandma patted my back.
"Thank you. Thank you so much."
