Chapter Nine

I don't own the characters

"Annabeth," Percy muttered, just to remember how her name felt on her lips. "Oh, Annabeth."

Why was her name so perfect? Scratch that. Why had she been so perfect? Her blonde curls, her tanned skin and gray eyes had been like a dream - and one she just couldn't forget. Her personality were a dream as well. Her mind, too. She was a dream. But she hadn't been. She had been real. But now she was no more.

And that hurt. It stung like nothing else. The fires of Tartarus couldn't even compare.

She wished she'd died instead, however selfish that may be. To take your own pain and place it on another. No, Annabeth didn't deserve to feel this! No, she deserves to be in Elysium, having the time of her life (well, afterlife).

Annabeth has never truly seen her like this. Laying in her bed at midnight, crying her eyes out. Death was a strange thing. Percy had never felt such grief in her life.

That night she didn't get any sleep, which meant to nightmare plagued dreams. She knew she had to sleep more, but the nightmares were hell. Literally.

She started going out on patrol more often until it became a daily thing. As soon that the sun had gone down they met up at Nightwings base and fought crime within the city. It was a way to think about other things and get her mind of Annabeth. And that was a good thing.

Percy entered the complicated code into the screen in front her. Her fingers moved quickly, and in a few seconds the screen turned green and the automatic metal doors opened. She stepped inside the room and heard the doors close. Nightwing stood in the other side of the room staring at a holographic screen.

"Hey," she said, announcing her arrival.

Nightwing turned around and smiled at her, but she couldn't see his eyes as they were hidden by his domino mask.

"Percy, can you be here by 10 am tomorrow?" Nightwing asked. "Batman wants me to help Young Justice and I thought you might wasn't to come along."

"Yeah, I'll be here," Percy said.

"Great. Now, you ready?"

"Born ready."

"What is Young Justice anyway?" Percy asked as they grappled around the dark, crime ridden city.

"It's a group of younger superheroes," Nightwing answered. "I used to work with."

"Alright," Percy said. "So, were working with children?"

"Not really-"

"Children."

——

Saturday, 10.00

"We can't wait here forever! My body's not capable of that!" Percy called out to Nightwing.

"We're leaving soon," Nightwing sighed. "Just calm down."

"Nightwing - I have ADHD. Me? Calm? Never happened and never will," Percy said.

"Come on, Percy," Nightwing said.

"What? No, I'm never gonna be calm or that and that's just fact," Percy laughed.

"Not that, Percy. We're leaving," Nightwing said amused.

"Oh," Percy said, slightly embarrassed. "Right."

——

"Is this even safe?" Percy asked, pointing at the "zeta tube" in front of them.

"Yes, one hundred percent," Nightwing said.

"You sure?" Percy asked. "Cause I've tried things that are supposedly "safe" and ending up having to rescue my friends from being stretched to pieces."

"What?" Nightwing asked.

"Eh, nothing," Percy quickly said.

Nightwing stepped into the tube. "I wouldn't do this if it wasn't safe."

Then he disappeared. "I guess that's true."

She stepped inside the tube and then she also disappeared.

——

The "cave" or was it mountain was filled with unique heroes. There was some Martian girl, an atlantean, some Superman clone and more.

"Alright team! My friend over there is Anahita and she and I will be helping you for some time. Expect to see more of her," Nightwing announced. "Now, what's your problem?"

"We've been encountering some groups of strange people, and we think it's best if you help," One of the atlanteans said. She kinda recognized him with her darker skin tone and cold green eyes.

Nightwing nodded. "Tell us more about them."

"Well, there was one group of only women wearing silver and using bows and arrows. They seemed to despise all men. Then we came across several groups with smaller amounts of members. They've been causing trouble all over the country."

Percy muttered something to herself. Of course, the hunters and campers! Camp wasn't in a great state when she'd left. Had there been another attack? Had another major quest been issued? Is there a new prophecy?

The Superman clone turned around and started her down.

"What was that?" He asked.

"What?" She asked.

"You said something - muttered," he said.

"I was just talking to myself," Percy said.

"I heard something about hunters," he exclaimed.

"Yes, and?" Percy asked and took a step forward.

Now it was his turn to mutter something under his breath, and then turn around.

"We need to work as a team," Nightwing said, staring at what was his name again? Superboy? Yeah, Superboy. He was staring and Superboy and Percy.

"I know how teams work, shouldn't be that hard," Percy responded.

"Who'd want you on their team?" Superboy retorted without even turning around to look at her.

"Hey! I've been on several teams!" Percy exclaimed.

Now he turned around. "Yeah? And where are they now?"

The words rung in the ear and Percy couldn't think straight. She took a deep breath but that didn't help. Her sight was tinted red.

She tried holding herself back, but now there was no daughter of Athena to help her with that so she jumped onto Superboy in anger.
