Chapter 7: My Big Break
I was thinking about my aunt yesterday. Then I start to wonder, why? Why would any sick person just shoot a regular person like that? Well, whoever it was, I will go out to them and I will hunt them down.
After I get ready and wait for the bus, the person I see is someone I didn't expect. I see Jane walking to me and she's smiling. "Hey, what's up?"
"Hey, what are you doing here?" I start to smirk. "Well, I asked my dad to drop me off. I just wanted to see you." She says with a grin. She looks so cute. "I wanted to talk about the math project." I just can't stop smiling when she talks to me.
"Oh... yeah. What about it?" I asked. "Well, I was thinking maybe we can do the project at my house. I mean... if you want to." She asked nervously. "Yeah. Of course. I'd love to go to your place." She smiles at me. "Great! Okay, so how 'bout... 5:00." She asked. "5 sounds great."
We go onto the bus and Jordan is already seated. "Hey, wassup Jane?" Jordan says. "Wassup?" She says back. They do a goofy handshake and I couldn't help but laugh. "Looks like you 2 have been talking." I said. "Yeah. We have robotics every Wednesday." Jordan says.
Jordan always loved robotics. But not as much as chemistry. We all talk on the bus and get to school. "Alright, see on Wednesday. And, see you tonight martin?" She asked me. "Definitely." She gives me a good smile and tries to hide her blush.
I see one of her female friends squeal to her. "Wow. Looks like she really likes you." Jordan says with a pay on the back. "Yeah. She might." I tell him. "But seriously, what's up with you? Are you good? You kinda seemed... turned off yesterday."
"I'm fine. Don't worry. I'm just, taking a break from this whole... superhero thing." He looks at me with a gasp. "Really? Why? We just find the cold-blooded killer of your aunt, and you're taking a break?" He asks. "Yes. I don't know if I'm ready yet. I just found out who killed my mom. Not to mention, that the killer's apart of one of the most feared gangs in Franklin City.
This guy could be no joke." I tell him. "But your super durability will make all those attacks feel like a paper cut." I tell him no and he sighs. "Fine. You could take a break, get your girl, and do whatever you want, but if you wanna stop this guy, tell me." I nod and we head to class.
The entire day went by fast. I get a call from Uncle Rick. I answer it a take deep breath. "Hey kid, don't forget that you have to come home at 7. If you come any minute later, expect no dinner." He says. "Wait, you already know where I'm going?" I ask.
"Yeah, I don't why, but your girlfriend called me saying you two were gonna 'study' at her place." I can hear him laughing over the phone. "She's not my girlfriend. She's just a friend that just happened to be a girl." He laughs even more.
"Okay. Sure. Just get home on time, or starve." He hangs up and I wait for Jane. "Hey. Do you wanna go to my place now? All my clubs were cancelled today." She says. "Sure. That would be nice." I tell her.
We wait for her dad(or whatever that guy was) to pick us up from the school. Until I see and I sit in the back seat. "Well I don't think we've met, I'm Jane's father, but you can call me whatever you want."
"Okay, sir." I said. "Why sir? Are you stupid?" I thought. "Please, don't call me sir, I'm already old, no need to keep reminding me. Just call me Mr. West."
"Okay. Mr. West." We ride to Jane's house. I look at the beautiful suburban house. To me, it looked almost as stunning as Jane herself. We gilt into the house and it looks pretty big. Just enough space for about 6+ people.
"Well, you 2 have fun. But not too much fun." Jane whispers to her dad and then he leaves. "Sorry about him. He's... well, my dad." She giggles. "Yeah. I can't really relate." She looks like she regrets saying what she said.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry for saying that. That's really insensitive of me." She says. It gets awkward for a good 10 seconds until I decide to break the silence. "How 'bout we go to your room?" I said. "Oh! Right. Yeah. Let's go."
We go upstairs and see her room a little empty. "We haven't really finished packing yet." She said. "I can tell." We both sit down and get our books. We start to do some of the project and talk at the same time.
I don't know what it is, but talking to Jane is just so good. I wish I can tell her how I feel. But I can't risk anything like that. Once we finally finish the project, we look over our work and set it down.
"Yes. We're done." She says. I celebrate softly with her. "So, now what?" I asked. "We could just talk." She says. "Well, what's been going on with you lately?" She clears her throat. "Nothing much, just the fact that I barely see my parents anymore.
You don't have to answer this but, what happened to your parents?"
I sigh. "My parents died in a plane accident. At the time, I was visiting my auntie and uncle until my parents come back. But they never did. So we had a funeral, went to my old house, packed all our stuff, sold the house, and moved to Franklin City.
"But that was such a long time ago. I've moved on with my life. I won't let them stick on my forever." I told her. "Wow. That's sad. I'm really sorry." I tell her it's okay and she starts to speak.
"Well, my granddad died from liver cancer. And my grandma's now living in a retirement home." She says. "I know it's not the same thing, but I understand what you mean."
After telling each other interesting facts about each other I learned some things about her. Her favorite color is purple, she likes hip-hop, she has a brother still living in Oregon who is only 21, she wants to get a major in computer science, and she hates bugs.
"You know, talking to you is way different from talking to other guys. So far, I've had 10 guys hit on me this one week." We start to laugh and she looks me in the eyes.
"You're the only guy, besides Jordan, that's actually cares about me. You're nice, funny, and sweet." She says looking in my eyes. "You're not like any other girl. I've never really talked to anyone like you before."
She leans in closer to me. Slowly, I do the same. I close my eyes and press my lips against hers. We kiss for a good time and the world goes slient. This kiss felt amazing. I pull away and we rest our foreheads together. She giggles. "Wow. That was great. She says.
"Look, I really like you, and I wanted to know if I can... take you out for a movie or something?" I asked. "Yes. Definitely." She gets out some paper and a pen and rights her number on it. I smile at her and examine the paper. The door knocks."Yes?" Jane says. "Hey you 2. Martin's gonna have to go, his father's outside."
"That's my uncle." I correct him. "Oh. Sorry." He says. "So, Saturday night?" She nods and gives me a hug goodbye. I wave to her and see her as Uncle Rick drives us home. "So, did you guys finish the project?" He asked. I was daydreaming about me and jane.
"What? Oh yeah." He sees me still daydreaming. "So, what happened in their? Did you get her number or something?" He asked. "More than that. We're going out on a date this Saturday." Uncle Rick slams the brake and I hold on tight.
"What! You sly dog! WOOF WOOF!" He screams. I laugh out loud and uncle Rick talks to me throughout the ride. I guess not being a superhero is good. Finally, I have my life back to normal.
