Immortal - Part 26 - Tony x Reader

Tony watched (Y/n) as she looked out of the private jet's window. She had given him the small notebook from the box; the billionaire looking at the notes that his father and Erskine had made about a possible serum that could make the immortal......well, not immortal any longer. It was obvious that she was lost in thought; that she was anywhere at that moment, but there. Tony not sure whether she was thinking about her old life at the farmhouse that they had been to, her nights watching the stars, as she sat under the oak tree; or she was letting her thoughts drift to his father. But whatever it was, he wished that she would look at him like that. There a happiness in her beautiful eyes that he had not seen before.

He had to admit that all this; that (Y/n), that a true immortal that had lived more lives that he could ever know, was right there in front of him. That this exquisite creature had loved his father; had been with Howard long before Tony was even born, was still a lot to take in. But he was happy that Fury had been and found her. That given that his father had left the box for both of them to find, Howard must have known that something, or someone would eventually bring them together. Tony having to wonder whether it was fate, or just mere good fortune that had brought the immortal to the directors' attention.

"(Y/n)........?"

"Hmmmm.......?"

"You ok..........?"

"What......oh, yeah. Sorry, Tony, I didn't mean to be quiet. I was just thinking......."

"About that place..........?"

"In part. It's just, as I told you, I don't normally go back to places after I leave them. I just put them behind me and move on. It may sound a little cold, I know; but it's something I quickly learnt to do, to keep myself sane. I try not to get too close to people, places, because I know that I will have to leave, or watch them die; admittedly, sometimes I am better at that than others, as with your father. But...........well, going to that old place not only reminded me of all the great times that I had there; but its also brought back other thing, from other times. Old faces and places that I keep in my heart, despite moving on. For even though I have been around the world numerous times; even though I have been called many names and been many things, some things.......some things stick with you. And today......today just reminded me that thinking about them, isn't a bad thing. Thinking about them, won't drive me crazy. And though some memories might bring a tear to my eye, there are lots more that make me smile......make me laugh..........."

"And what about us.............?"

"Us........?" (Y/n) quirking a brow at the question.

"I mean, us, the Avengers. Will we be one of those happy memories that you take with you.........?"

"Jeez, Tony. I only just got here, and you already want me to leave?" The immortal chuckled. Tony just shaking his head, as he reached for his bottle of water.

"That couldn't be further from the truth, and you know it........"

"Well.......with you......all of you, the good thing is, I don't have to hide. I don't have to pretend that I am someone, or something I am not. I don't have to concern myself with awkward questions and odd looks. I can just be me, and I don't get to do that too often. There have been a few over the millennia, that have known my secret, and those people normally bring with them the best memories, as I have been able to get to know them properly. So, I think that when the time comes, my memories of you........all of you, will be good ones. And if there are any tears, I think that they will pale into insignificance when compared to the times that make me smile." (Y/n) replied. She and Tony smiling at one another. A comfortable silence falling over the interior of the plane.

"And if you could change things? If you could be mortal and live one last life with one person, in one place, that you would never have to leave; would you sacrifices all those memories, all those future memories.........?" The billionaire finally continued. His expression turning serious as he moved forward in his chair.

"You're talking about your father's notes. An idea he and Abraham had eighty years ago. An idea, apart from what little is scribbled in those pages, died that day that Heinz Kruger killed Abraham, and when your father passed.........."

"But if it were possible, (Y/n). Would you take a chance? Would you give it all up...........?"

"People think that being immortal must be a wonderful thing, Tony. To never getting sick or old, never dying. But I am here to tell you that living forever, is not all it is cracked up to be. In truth, I am tired of not being able to just put down roots and stay in one place. I have had enough of being alone, with no one to love, and no one to love me in return. Of not having friends to enjoy times with. And it doesn't matter how many good memories I have; they will never make up for all the things I have missed out on. So, to answer your question; yes. If a serum could be found that made me mortal without taking away from me all the other things I can do.........then yes, Tony. I would take a chance." The immortal told him. Tony nodding, before sitting back in his chair; looking on as (Y/n) once more turned her attention back to the clouds that moved passed the window.
